A new Muon-to-Central-Trigger Processor Interface (MUCTPI) was built as part of the upgrade of the ATLAS Level-1 trigger system for the next Run of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. The MUCTPI has ...208 high-speed optical serial links for receiving muon candidates from the muon trigger detectors. Three high-end field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) are used for real-time processing of the muon candidates, for sending trigger information to other parts of the trigger system, and for sending summary information to the data acquisition and monitoring system. A System-on-Chip (SoC) is used for the control, configuration, and monitoring of the hardware and the operation of the MUCTPI. The SoC consists of an FPGA part and a processor system (PS). The FPGA part provides communication with the processing FPGAs, while the PS runs software for communication with the run-control system of the ATLAS experiment. In this article, we will describe our experience with running CentOS Linux on the SoC. Cross-compilation together with the existing framework for building the ATLAS trigger and data acquisition (TDAQ) software is being used in order to allow the deployment of the TDAQ software directly on the SoC.
We discuss the physics potential and the experimental challenges of an upgraded LHC running at an instantaneous luminosity of 1035 cm-2s-1. The detector R&D needed to operate ATLAS and CMS in a very ...high radiation environment and the expected detector performance are discussed. A few examples of the increased physics potential are given, ranging from precise measurements within the Standard Model (in particular in the Higgs sector) to the discovery reach for several New Physics processes.
The NA62 experiment at CERN SPS (Super Proton Synchrotron) accelerator aims at studying Kaon decays with high precision. The high resolution Liquid Krypton (LKr) calorimeter, built for the NA48 ...experiment, is a crucial part of the photon-veto system; to cope with the demanding NA62 requirements, its back-end electronics had to be completely renewed. The new readout system is based on the Calorimeter REAdout Module (CREAM) , a 6U VME board whose design and production was sub-contracted to CAEN , with CERN NA62 group continuously supervising the development and production phase. The first version of the board was delivered by the manufacturer in March 2013 and, as of June 2014, the full board production is ongoing. In addition to describing the CREAM board, all aspects of the new LKr readout system, including its integration within the NA62 TDAQ scheme, will be treated.

This paper presents a generic multilevel data model to support planning decision makers in the evaluation of production capacities and delays. The approach promotes rough but rapidly assessed views of the manufacturing capacities and of the production margins to provide planning decision with more reactivity. We first address the aggregation of planning-related technical data on products, processes and workshop capacity. Data aggregation is seen as a recursive process the depth of which is case-dependent. The aggregate data are then exploited for the assessment of the production makespan. The applicability of our generic approach is shown on a case study stemming from the wood transformation sector.
