We present the novel implementation of a non-differentiable metric approximation and a corresponding loss-scheduling aimed at the search for new particles of unknown mass in high energy physics ...experiments. We call the loss-scheduling, based on the minimisation of a figure-of-merit related function typical of particle physics, a Punzi-loss function, and the neural network that utilises this loss function a Punzi-net. We show that the Punzi-net outperforms standard multivariate analysis techniques and generalises well to mass hypotheses for which it was not trained. This is achieved by training a single classifier that provides a coherent and optimal classification of all signal hypotheses over the whole search space. Our result constitutes a complementary approach to fully differentiable analyses in particle physics. We implemented this work using PyTorch and provide users full access to a public repository containing all the codes and a training example.

Older, multimorbid patients carry a high risk of suffering from a thromboembolic disease. The incidence of deep vein thrombosis in the outpatient setting is, depending on age, between 71 and 132 ...cases per 100,000 inhabitants and year. The rates increase significantly in the hospital setting and with increasing age. Today, pharmacological thrombolytic prophylaxis is the gold standard in patients needing surgical and internal medical care and is described in international evidence-based guidelines. However, the percentage of patients, who despite the guidelines do not receive pharmacological thrombolytic prophylaxis, is still very high. This is especially true for the group of multimorbid, very old patients. In the present work, the pathophysiological and clinical background for the increased susceptibility of thromboembolism in geriatric patients is summarized and the drugs currently available for pharmacological thromboembolic prophylaxis are presented. Hereby, special emphasis is placed on aspects of application in the elderly.

Bezüglich des Einflusses von Sport auf den Nachtschlaf existieren positive sowie negative empirische Befunde, während andere Studien über gar keine Effekte berichten. ...Ziel dieser Pilotstudie war es, das Schlafverhalten, die Schlafhygiene und weitere psychologische Parameter von regelmäßig trainierenden adoleszenten Fußballern mit jugendlichen Kontrollpersonen, die deutlich weniger Sport treiben, zu vergleichen. Entsprechend der Literatur wurde angenommen, dass später Sport sich negativ auf den Schlaf auswirken würde.
Methode
Insgesamt 11 Jugendliche, davon 6 Fußballer und 5 Kontrollpersonen, führten ein Schlaftagebuch durch und beantworteten Fragebögen zu Angst, Depressivität und Schlafhygiene.
Ergebnisse
Bei der Auswertung der Schlaftagebücher zeigten sich keine statistisch signifikanten Unterschiede zwischen den beiden Gruppen. Auch die subjektiv wahrgenommene Leistungsfähigkeit und Ängstlichkeit waren in beiden Gruppen gleich. Entgegen den Erwartungen zeigte sich für die Gruppe der jugendlichen Fußballer eine Tendenz bezüglich besserer Schlafhygiene und geringerer Depressivität.
Fazit
Die Ergebnisse dieser Pilotstudie zeigten keinen ungünstigen Effekt von spätem Sport bei Jugendlichen auf. Jedoch ist aufgrund der geringen Stichprobe eine Verallgemeinerung der Ergebnisse schwierig, weshalb zukünftige Studien nötig sind. Ebenso sollten verschiedene Mediatorvariablen den Effekt von Sport auf Schlaf, wie beispielsweise Zeit, Intensität, Dauer und Regelmäßigkeit, aber auch Aspekte des psychischen Wohlbefindens mit untersucht werden.
The $L_{\mu}-L_{\tau}$ extension of the standard model predicts the existence of a lepton-flavor-universality-violating $Z^{\prime}$ boson that couples only to the heavier lepton families. We search ...for such a $Z^\prime$ through its invisible decay in the process $e^+ e^- \to \mu^+ \mu^- Z^{\prime}$. We use a sample of electron-positron collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58GeV collected by the Belle II experiment in 2019-2020, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 79.7fb$^{-1}$. We find no excess over the expected standard-model background. We set 90$\%$-confidence-level upper limits on the cross section for this process as well as on the coupling of the model, which ranges from $3 \times 10^{-3}$ at low $Z^{\prime}$ masses to 1 at $Z^{\prime}$ masses of 8$GeV/c^{2}$.
We study the processes $e^+e^-\to\omega\chi_{bJ}(1P)$ ($J$ = 0, 1, or 2) using samples at center-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s}$ = 10.701, 10.745, and 10.805 GeV, corresponding to 1.6, 9.8, and 4.7 ...fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity, respectively. These data were collected with the Belle II detector during special operations of the SuperKEKB collider above the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance. We report the first observation of $\omega\chi_{bJ}(1P)$ signals at $\sqrt{s}$ = 10.745 GeV. By combining Belle II data with Belle results at $\sqrt{s}$ = 10.867 GeV, we find energy dependencies of the Born cross sections for $e^+e^-\to \omega\chi_{b1,b2}(1P)$ to be consistent with the shape of the $\Upsilon(10753)$ state. These data indicate that the internal structures of the $\Upsilon(10753)$ and $\Upsilon(10860)$ states may differ. Including data at $\sqrt{s}$ = 10.653 GeV, we also search for the bottomonium equivalent of the $X(3872)$ state decaying into $\omega\Upsilon(1S)$. No significant signal is observed for masses between 10.45 and 10.65 GeV/$c^2$.
The combination of different X-ray topography techniques and reciprocal space mapping is used to monitor the early stages of relaxation in silicon-based heterostructures. For lightly doped silicon ...layers grown on heavily boron-doped 150 mm substrates, Lang transmission topography demonstrates that an orthogonal array of 60°; misfits nucleates only at the wafer periphery. The length of the individual misfit segment depends on the epitaxial layer thickness and on the presence of the orthogonal blocking misfit segments. Double-crystal X-ray topography, with better strain and tilt resolution, allows one to distinguish between the different tilt components of parallel misfit dislocations. Relaxation is quantified using triple-axis X-ray diffraction. Reciprocal space maps around both the (004) and (224) reflections show that the misfits relieve about 38% of the strain. The combination of these X-ray techniques offers insight into the means to reduce dislocation formation and into the fundamental nature of the dislocations themselves.

Ältere, multimorbide Menschen tragen ein hohes Risiko, eine venöse thromboembolische Erkrankung zu erleiden. Die Häufigkeit der tiefen Beinvenenthrombose beläuft sich im ambulanten ...Setting in Abhängigkeit vom Lebensalter auf 71 bis132 Fälle pro 100.000 Einwohner pro Jahr. Die Raten erhöhen sich im Krankenhausbereich und mit steigendem Lebensalter signifikant. Die pharmakologische Thromboseprophylaxe ist heute in der Behandlung von Patienten mit chirurgischen und internistischen Erkrankungen ein Goldstandard und in internationalen Leitlinien evidenzbasiert beschrieben. Trotzdem ist der Anteil der Betroffenen, die trotz der vorgegebenen Leitlinien keine pharmakologische Thromboseprophylaxe erhalten, noch immer sehr hoch. Dies gilt vor allem für die Gruppe der multimorbiden hochaltrigen Patienten. Im vorliegenden Beitrag werden die pathophysiologischen und klinischen Hintergründe der Thromboembolieneigung bei geriatrischen Patienten zusammengefasst und die derzeit zur pharmakologischen Thromboembolieprophylaxe verfügbaren Medikamente vorgestellt. Dabei wird speziell auf Aspekte in der Anwendung bei alten Menschen eingegangen.
