Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and queer (LGBTIQ+) people in Australia are actively engaged in civic life, contributing volunteer service to various political, activist, and community ...organisations. Although there is emerging evidence that civic engagement contributes to the health and wellbeing of the general population, information about how volunteerism contributes to LGBTIQ+ community wellbeing has only recently emerged. We used a prospective cross-sectional design to investigate responsibility for civic engagement, sense of community, and loneliness among a convenience sample of LGBTIQ+ volunteers (N = 195). Findings were that volunteers reported a consistent and high degree of community engagement and a strong sense of attachment to the Australian LGBTIQ+ community. A higher-than-expected degree of loneliness was reported in this sample of volunteers, and it was notable that being transgender or gender diverse was a significant predictor of loneliness. This highlights the importance of loneliness among transgender and gender diverse people and the value of discerning differences between groups in the LGBTIQ+ community.
IMPLICATIONS
Social workers must be mindful that, despite being connected to communities and demonstrating civic engagement, certain LGBTIQ+ volunteers could be at risk of loneliness.
The higher rate of loneliness among transgender and gender diverse volunteers indicates a need for LGBTIQ+-affirming organisations to develop particular strategies to address isolation and loneliness among this group.
Ganodermataceae is one of the main families of macrofungi since species in the family are both ecologically and economically important. The double-walled basidiospores with ornamented endospore walls ...are the characteristic features of Ganodermataceae . It is a large and complex family; although many studies have focused on Ganodermataceae , the global diversity, geographic distribution, taxonomy and molecular phylogeny of Ganodermataceae still remained incompletely understood. In this work, taxonomic and phylogenetic studies on worldwide species of Ganodermataceae were carried out by morphological examination and molecular phylogenetic analyses inferred from six gene loci including the internal transcribed spacer regions (ITS), the large subunit of nuclear ribosomal RNA gene (nLSU), the second largest subunit of RNA polymerase II gene ( rpb2 ), the translation elongation factor 1-α gene ( tef1 ), the small subunit mitochondrial rRNA gene (mtSSU) and the small subunit nuclear ribosomal RNA gene (nSSU). A total of 1 382 sequences were used in the phylogenetic analyses, of which 817 were newly generated, including 132 sequences of ITS, 139 sequences of nLSU, 83 sequences of rpb2 , 124 sequences of tef1 , 150 sequences of mtSSU and 189 sequences of nSSU. The combined six-gene dataset included sequences from 391 specimens representing 146 taxa from Ganodermataceae . Based on morphological and phylogenetic analyses, 14 genera were confirmed in Ganodermataceae : Amauroderma , Amaurodermellus , Cristataspora , Foraminispora , Furtadoella , Ganoderma , Haddowia , Humphreya , Magoderna , Neoganoderma , Sanguinoderma , Sinoganoderma , Tomophagus and Trachydermella . Among these genera, Neoganoderma gen. nov. is proposed for Ganoderma neurosporum ; Sinoganoderma gen. nov. is proposed for Ganoderma shandongense ; Furtadoella gen. nov. is proposed to include taxa previously belonging to Furtadoa since Furtadoa is a homonym of a plant genus in the Araceae ; Trachydermella gen. nov. is proposed to include Trachyderma tsunodae since Trachyderma is a homonym of a lichen genus in the Pannariaceae . Twenty-three new species, viz., Ganoderma acaciicola , G. acontextum , G. alpinum , G. bubalinomarginatum , G. castaneum , G. chuxiongense , G. cocoicola , G. fallax , G. guangxiense , G. puerense , G. subangustisporum , G. subellipsoideum , G. subflexipes , G. sublobatum , G. tongshanense , G. yunlingense , Haddowia macropora , Sanguinoderma guangdongense , Sa. infundibulare , Sa. longistipitum , Sa. melanocarpum , Sa. microsporum and Sa. tricolor are described. In addition, another 33 known species are also described in detail for comparison. Scanning electron micrographs of basidiospores of 10 genera in Ganodermataceae are provided. A key to the accepted genera of Ganodermataceae and keys to the accepted species of Ganoderma , Haddowia , Humphreya , Magoderna , Sanguinoderma and Tomophagus are also provided. In total, 278 species are accepted as members of Ganodermataceae including 59 species distributed in China.
Human rights advocates work towards the inclusion of people of various identities, including people of diverse LGBTQ+ identities, cultural identities, and education. The purpose of this research note ...is to explore the intersection of lower- and working-class identity with race, gender, and educational attainment in a sample of LGBTQ+ workers in New York. Findings of the pilot study were that LGBTQ+ people from lower- and working-class backgrounds reported differences in risk of reporting heterosexism and likelihood the complaint would be taken seriously. Education and gender were significant factors in the sample. Implications and possible interventions for human rights advocates are provided.
Amauroderma
s.lat. has been defined mainly by the morphological features of non-truncate and double-walled basidiospores with a distinctly ornamented endospore wall. In this work, taxonomic and ...phylogenetic studies on species of
Amauroderma
s.lat. are carried out by morphological examination together with ultrastructural observations, and molecular phylogenetic analyses of multiple loci including the internal transcribed spacer regions (ITS), the large subunit of nuclear ribosomal RNA gene (nLSU), the largest subunit of RNA polymerase II (
RPB1
) and the second largest subunit of RNA polymerase II (
RPB2
), the translation elongation factor 1-α gene (
TEF
) and the β-tubulin gene (
TUB
). The results demonstrate that species of
Ganodermataceae
formed ten clades. Species previously placed in
Amauroderma
s.lat. are divided into four clades:
Amauroderma
s.str.,
Foraminispora
,
Furtadoa
and a new genus
Sanguinoderma
. The classification of
Amauroderma
s.lat. is thus revised, six new species are described and illustrated, and eight new combinations are proposed. SEM micrographs of basidiospores of
Foraminispora
and
Sanguinoderma
are provided, and the importance of SEM in delimitation of taxa in this study is briefly discussed. Keys to species of
Amauroderma
s.str.,
Foraminispora
,
Furtadoa
, and
Sanguinoderma
are also provided.
...I thank the MSMA staff for your service, dedication, and perseverance. According to Student Doctor Net, in the recent 2024 match, only 111 of the 399 students at the University of Missouri at ...Columbia, St. Louis University, and Washington University matched to residency programs in Missouri. 72% of the graduates from these three medical schools will never experience the potentially beneficial and potentially deleterious effects of many of their resolutions. The Elephants Are Afraid of the Mice The MSMA medical student section is theoretically a representative democracy that comprises medical students from six medical schools: the University of Missouri Columbia, the University of Missouri Kansas City, Saint Louis University, Washington University, Kansas City University, and my alma mater, Andrew Taylor Still University. The health insurance industry has poached physicians' time and energy, requiring prior authorizations, medication formulary substitutions, and peer-to-peer reviews.
First-year students studying social work often need help to successfully transition to the demands of university life and the many facets of the profession. Professional socialization should also ...include allyship and engagement with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender/gender diverse, intersex and queer communities (LGBTIQ+); developing a strong sense of community; and becoming committed to additional years of study. I present an activity called 'Urn and Learn,' a series of coffee and tea sessions embedded in an introductory social work course that aimed to promote both allyship with sexual and gender diverse communities and enhance the sense of belongingness to the university community. Improvements in student and instructor satisfaction were observed following this course. The benefits of delivering the Urn and Learn teaching activity are discussed.

High Flyers Whiteman Air Force base, located in Knob Noster, Missouri, is home to the Northrup Grumman B-2 Spirit, also known as the Stealth bomber. Shut Off All Personal Electronic Devices Many ...primary care physicians experience a layover of their workday as they spend time each night documenting in their patient's electronic medical records (aptly called "pajama time"). Hospital and medical practice administrators should limit the administrative burden for their physicians. Hospitalists rely on Primary Care physicians to provide outpatient care for their patients following hospitalization.
Actively practicing physicians have had their time poached by the latest electronic medical record "upgrade," incessant prior authorizations, peer-to-peer reviews, insurance formulary substitutions, ...recredentialing their licenses and hospital privileges, maintaining their specialty certification, practicing defensive medicine, working with hospital administrators, serving on committees, etc. MSMA member Michael L. Weaver, MD, serves as the president and chief executive officer of this Kansas City-based organization with the mission of increasing the number of underrepresented minority students educated in health sciences and retained in the KC Metro healthcare workforce. ...we the older elephants (the practicing and retired physicians), "must" get back to the MSMA watering hole.
COVID-19 has shifted social work education and widened the gaps in services for historically marginalised communities, including people of diverse cultural, sexual and gender identities and social ...classes. Existing inequities based on cultural differences have been magnified, perhaps most recently evident in George Floyd's slaying and the subsequent #BlackLivesMatter demonstrations across the globe. Learning to be an ally for diverse communities and working towards the betterment of all people is a goal of social work education. We argue that simple allyship is not enough given the structural inequities present in North America and Australia the civil unrest amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Social work education's focus should trend towards allegiance with disadvantaged communities or critical allyship and include a commitment to undertake decisive actions to redress the entrenched colonial, capitalist, systemic and structural inequities that oppress many and provide unearned privilege and advantage to others. We explore strategies used in classrooms to promote allegiance and make recommendations for social work education, policy, and practice in this time of change.
