We report on the effects of Fe substitution on the structural and magnetic properties of the YCo12-xFexB6 series of compounds by combining scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray ...microanalysis, X-ray powder diffraction and magnetic measurements. The rhombohedral R3̅m structure of the YCo12-xFexB6 is retained up to about x = 4.5 Fe atom per formula unit, a value that we assign to the estimated solubility limit for polycrystalline samples. The unit cell is found to expand regularly upon increasing the iron content with a rate of 1.55 Å3 per Fe atom, the expansion being larger along the basal plane. Clues for the preferential substitution scheme of Fe for Co are discussed. It is also shown that Fe for Co substitution induces dramatic changes on the magnetic properties such as a strong decrease of the ordering temperature and a significant reduction of the spontaneous magnetization.

•Work stress in terms of effort-reward imbalance was prospectively associated with suicidal ideation among an older working population in Europe.•The association between ERI and suicidal ideation may ...vary by gender, region, education and household income.•Depressive symptoms may partially explain the effect of ERI on suicidal ideation.
Evidence of the association between effort reward imbalance (ERI) and suicidal ideation is sparse. This study examined the influence of ERI at work on suicidal ideation and the mediating effect of depressive symptoms.
There were 4963 workers aged 50+ without suicidal ideation at baseline in the Survey of Health, Aging and Retirement in Europe, these workers were followed-up for 8-years to detect incident suicidal ideation. ERI was measured by a short ERI questionnaire. Suicidal ideation was evaluated by one item derived from the 12-item Europe-depression scale, and depressive symptoms were assessed by the remaining 11 items in the scale. Cox models were employed to explore the relationship adjusting for potential confounders. Mediation analysis was used to test the mediating effect of depressive symptoms.
A significantly higher incidence of suicidal ideation was related with high effort (HR = 1.51) and low reward (HR = 1.42), respectively. A high effort–low reward imbalance was associated with even higher risk of suicidal ideation (HR = 1.96) as compared to low effort-high reward combination. The association was varied by gender, region, education and household income. Depressive symptoms mediated a modest proportion (natural indirect effect 14.4%) of the total association between ERI and suicidal ideation.
Suicidal ideation definition based on self-administered questionnaires which could lead to false negatives. And some unmeasured confounders might have biased the results.
Efforts in promoting balanced effort–reward at work may reduce suicidal ideation among working population aged 50+. Avoiding depressive symptoms may further enhance such efforts.
Single nucleon pickup reactions were performed with a 18.1 MeV/nucleon (14)O beam on a deuterium target. Within the coupled reaction channel framework, the measured cross sections were compared to ...theoretical predictions and analyzed using both phenomenological and microscopic overlap functions. The missing strength due to correlations does not show significant dependence on the nucleon separation energy asymmetry over a wide range of 37 MeV, in contrast with nucleon removal data analyzed within the sudden-eikonal formalism.
Energies and spectroscopic factors of the first 7/2-, 3/2-, 1/2-, and 5/2- states in the (35)Si21 nucleus were determined by means of the (d, p) transfer reaction in inverse kinematics at GANIL using ...the MUST2 and EXOGAM detectors. By comparing the spectroscopic information on the Si35 and S37 isotones, a reduction of the p3/2-p1/2 spin-orbit splitting by about 25% is proposed, while the f7/2-f5/2 spin-orbit splitting seems to remain constant. These features, derived after having unfolded nuclear correlations using shell model calculations, have been attributed to the properties of the two-body spin-orbit interaction, the amplitude of which is derived for the first time in an atomic nucleus. The present results, remarkably well reproduced by using several realistic nucleon-nucleon forces, provide a unique touchstone for the modeling of the spin-orbit interaction in atomic nuclei.
The first French outbreak of community-acquired methicillin-resistant
Staphylococcus aureus
(CA-MRSA) USA300 clone was investigated. After outbreak investigation, hygiene measures were implemented in ...all family households and childminders’ homes. Several decontamination procedures were performed, which used a combination of topical mupirocin, total body application of chlorhexidine, chlorhexidine gargle (if >6 years old) and a course of antibiotic therapy in cases of infection or decontamination failure. Patients were followed up for MRSA skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) and carriage. Strains were characterised by antimicrobial drug resistance profile, pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) and DNA microarrays. Between June 2011 and June 2012, six children and six adults among the ten corresponding relatives developed 28 SSTIs. None of the family members, including the index case, had any contact with foreigners or individuals known to have SSTIs. After infection control measures and prolonged decontamination have been implemented with a high adherence, six patients remained sustained CA-MRSA USA300 carriers, including one who developed mupirocin resistance and six who experienced minor CA-MRSA-related SSTIs. A baby was identified as an MRSA carrier 2 months after delivery. CA-MRSA decontamination using mupirocin and chlorhexidine in the community setting may also be a questionable strategy, associated with failure and resistance to both agents. Close monitoring of CA-MRSA SSTIs is required in France and in other European countries where MRSA USA300 has recently emerged. We showed that a closed management based on hygiene measures reinforcement, decolonisation and extended screening may fail to suppress CA-MRSA carriage and subsequent infections.
The HIE-ISOLDE project aims at expanding the physics programme of the ISOLDE facility at CERN. In particular, the addition of a superconducting linac will allow the post-acceleration of radioactive ...ion beams up to 10 MeV/u. However, because of field emission in the superconducting cavities and the possibility of neutron production for ion interactions above the Coulomb barrier, new radiological hazards need to be mitigated. Measurements of dose rate levels close to cavity prototypes were used to determine the intensity of the source of X ray due to field emission for a single cavity. The results were extrapolated to the operation of the 32 cavities that will be installed, and a detailed FLUKA calculation was performed to determine the required shielding to minimise the exposure of personnel present in the ISOLDE experimental hall during operation. FLUKA was also used to determine the maximum ambient dose equivalent rate levels in the accessible part of the hall due to ion beam losses for the envelope energies and intensities.
•Acoustics of the theatre and amphitheatre of the Roman Segobriga are analysed.•Mid-reverberation times are 0.45 s in the theatre and 1.3 s in the amphitheatre.•Comparisons of RIRs and acoustic ...parameters of the two ancient buildings are made.•Focalization in the ellipse of the amphitheatre arena is analysed.•Location of the sound source constitutes a determining factor of their acoustics.
In Roman times, Segobriga (Cuenca) was the capital of the Celtiberia region. The specular gypsum of its mines, used as glass in windows, was exported across the whole Roman Empire through the port of Carthago Nova (Cartagena), which made Segobriga a major centre of commerce with the Mediterranean. The construction of the two performance buildings took place outside the urban wall of the city and must have begun in the time of Tiberius; they were inaugurated around 79 AD under Vespasian. The Roman theatre has one of the best conserved cavea in Hispania, although it lacks a scaenae frons. In the amphitheatre, only its southern cavea has been restored to accommodate the audience. In this work, experimental results and analyses are presented of impulse responses and of the values of the monaural and binaural acoustic parameters recorded in situ in these two performance buildings of this imperial city of Hispania. These results correspond to the source-receiver combinations of three positions of the sound source, in the places where the natural sources are located in each building with multiple positions of the microphones. Analyses of the room impulse response signals in the two venues are carried out, as is a study of focalization in the amphitheatre together with a comparison of the acoustics of the two sites in terms of temporal, energy, and spatial acoustic parameters. These buildings feature as study cases of a wider research project that aims to evaluate and revalue the acoustics of the principal Roman theatres of Spain.
An acute gastroenteritis (AG) outbreak occurred among participants in an obstacle race in France in the summer of 2015. An investigation in two phases was conducted to identify the source of ...infection and document the extent of the outbreak. First, a message on a social media website asked racers to report any symptoms by email to the Regional Health Agency of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Second, a retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted through an interactive questionnaire for all participants, followed by an analytical study of potential risks factors. Of 8,229 persons registered, 1,264 adults reported AG resolved within 48 hours. Of adults who reported AG, 866 met the case definition. Age group, departure time and ingestion of mud were associated with AG. Twenty stool specimens tested negative for bacteria. All four stool samples tested for viruses were positive for norovirus genogroup I and genotype 2. No indicator bacteria for faecal contamination were found in drinking water but muddy water of ponds tested positive. The outbreak was possibly caused by human-to-human transmission of a norovirus introduced by one or more persons and transmitted through contaminated mud. Risks related to similar races should be assessed and recommendations be proposed to raise awareness among health authorities and organisers.
Listening tests based on paired comparisons have been employed to investigate the subjective perception of the acoustic environment in large highly reverberant spaces. Seven cathedrals in the ...southern half of Spain have been included in the survey, thereby covering a wide range of reverberation-time values from 4.32 s in Murcia cathedral to 8.96 s in Cadiz cathedral at mid-frequencies. These cathedrals present a common architectural typology, known as the “Spanish style”, which allows similar source-receiver points to be selected when comparisons are made between two different cathedrals. The tests were carried out in the listening room of the Acoustics Laboratory of the Applied Physics II Department of the School of Architecture of the University of Seville. Several types of anechoic sound signals (choral pieces, extracts of Baroque instrumental music, and a speech) were auralised with the binaural impulse responses measured in the cathedrals to be used in the tests. Such auralisations were reproduced to the respondents through headphones, thereby ensuring that all audio signals were perceived at the same level during each test. A statistical analysis of the survey has shown both the independence of the recognition of reverberation of most personal characteristics and the dependence with the auralised signals based on instrumental music and on female and male voices. Furthermore, cathedrals with values of reverberation time between 4 and 7 s render the sensation of reverberation indistinguishable for listeners.
•A test to assess the perceptive reverberation of Spanish cathedrals is presented.•The recognition of reverberation with personal variables is studied.•Perceptive reverberation for the groups of cathedrals and stimuli is studied.•Subjective reverberation renders obscure for cathedrals with T30 between 4 and 7s.•A ranking of these seven Spanish cathedrals is proposed.
