In this paper we present the time resolution measurements of the Lutetium–Yttrium Oxyorthosilicate (LYSO) calorimeter prototype for the Mu2e experiment. The measurements have been performed using the ...e− beam of the Beam Test Facility (BTF) in Frascati, Italy in the energy range from 100 to 400MeV. The calorimeter prototype consisted of twenty five 30×30×130mm3, LYSO crystals read out by 10×10mm2 Hamamatsu Avalanche Photodiodes (APDs). The energy dependence of the measured time resolution can be parametrized as σt(E)=a/E/GeV⊕b, with the stochastic and constant terms a=(51±1)ps and b=(10±4)ps, respectively. This corresponds to the time resolution of (162±4)ps at 100MeV.
Mu2e will search for the Charge Lepton Flavor Violating (CLFV) conversion of a muon into an electron in the field of a nucleus. A clean discovery signature is provided by the mono-energetic ...conversion electron (
E
e
= 104.96 MeV). If no events are observed, Mu2e will set a limit on the ratio between the conversion and the nuclear capture rate below 3 × 10
−17
(at 90% C.L.). In order to confirm that the observed candidate is an electron, the calorimeter resolution requirements are to provide
E

T
res
< 500 ps for 100 MeV electrons while working in vacuum and in a high radiation environment and high magnetic field. The calorimeter is made of two annular aluminum disks, each one filled with 674 pure CsI crystals read out by SiPMs. A sophisticated mechanics and cooling system has been developed to support the crystals and cool the sensors. Radiation hard analog and fast digital electronics have been developed. In this paper the QC tests performed on the produced components and the construction status are reported, as well as the results obtained on the large size prototype with test beam data and at a cosmic ray test stand.

Field measurements of methane and carbon dioxide flux were carried out using portable static chambers in south (ST) and middle taiga subzones (MT) of Western Siberia (WS) from 16 to 24 August 2015. ...Two sites were investigated: Bakchar bog in the Tomsk region (in typical ecosystems for this area: oligotrophic bog/forest border and waterlogged forest) and Shapsha in Khanty-Mansiysk region (in waterlogged forest). The highest values of methane fluxes (mgC·m-2·h-1) were obtained in burnt wet birch forest (median 6.96; first quartile 3.12; third quartile 8.95). The lowest values of methane fluxes (among the sites mentioned above) were obtained in seasonally waterlogged forests (median -0.08; first and third quartiles are -0.14 and -0.03 mgC·m-2·h-1 respectively). These data will help to estimate the regional methane flux from the waterlogged and periodically flooded forests and to improve its prediction.

Among the indirect methods to determine nuclear cross-section present in literature, the so-called Asymptotic Normalization Coefficient (ANC) has proven to be useful in retrieving the direct part of ...a radiative capture cross-section in reactions of interest for astrophysics. In this work, the method will be presented, and some results obtained in collaboration between NPI CAS and INFN-LNS will be presented.
New position-sensitive experimental results have been obtained using the Dividing Plates method to detect the displacement of a single-mode laser beam spot of various diameters. Measurements show ...that with this method it is possible to attain sensitivities down to 0.18 µm

for a laser beam spot diameter of 8.8 µm displaced over 2.4 µm diameter zone, defined as the area where measurements non-linearities are within 1%. The achievable measurement accuracy is limited by ADC noise and corresponds to ±0.030 nm. Application of the Dividing Plates method for position-sensitive measurements allows to build a compact version of the Precision Laser Inclinometer, the Compact PLI, with reduced overall dimensions of 20 × 20 × 20 cm

The work is focused on the development of production methods of large scintillators based on lutetium-gadolinium oxyorthosilicate doped with cerium Lu2xGd2-2xSiO5:Ce (LGSO:Ce). Large LGSO:Ce crystals ...were grown by the Czochralski method, and a set of experimental samples for testing of scintillation characteristics was produced. Possibilities are discussed to use this scintillator in high energy physics experiments. In particular, an electromagnetic calorimeter to search for conversion of electrons into muons, which is forbidden in the Standard Model.
