Details concerning the design, fabrication and performance of the STAR Barrel Electromagnetic Calorimeter are presented.
The Spin Asymmetries of the Nucleon Experiment (SANE) performed inclusive, double-polarized electron scattering measurements of the proton at the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility at ...Jefferson Lab. A novel detector array observed scattered electrons of four-momentum transfer \(2.5 < Q^2< 6.5\) GeV\(^2\) and Bjorken scaling \(0.3<x<0.8\) from initial beam energies of 4.7 and 5.9 GeV. Employing a polarized proton target whose magnetic field direction could be rotated with respect to the incident electron beam, both parallel and near perpendicular spin asymmetries were measured, allowing model-independent access to transverse polarization observables \(A_1\), \(A_2\), \(g_1\), \(g_2\) and moment \(d_2\) of the proton. This document summarizes the operation and performance of the polarized target, polarized electron beam, and novel detector systems used during the course of the experiment, and describes analysis techniques utilized to access the physics observables of interest.

In the work, results of the irradiation influence in first circuit water of the SM reactor on the weight alteration, phase composition of corrosion products, and rupture type of some V- and Nb-base ...alloys are presented. The irradiation was carried out at 50–65°C in water and at 70–95°C in helium for comparison to neutron fluence of ≃5

0.1 MeV). Water rate was about 13.5 m/s and dissolved oxygen content was 550–720 ppb. As it is shown, V-alloys have undergone the strong corrosion in water under irradiation already at such low temperature as 50–65°C. The maximum corrosion rate occurs with V–3.0Ti alloy (about 900 μm/yr), and the minimal with the V–6.1Cr–5.3Ti–ZrC alloy (about 50 μm/yr). The corrosion products are oxides: V
2O
5 for pure vanadium, TiO
2 for V–3.0Ti alloy and TiO for V–4.4Cr–3.9Ti. The overwhelming majority of corrosion products are taken away by the water flow. These results compare with the data of the autoclave testings carried out in the Argonne National Laboratory.

The electromagnetic calorimeter for a new Fermilab collider program named BTeV is based on lead tungstate scintillating crystals (PbWO
4). Various properties of crystals manufactured by Russian and ...Chinese companies were measured at the U70 accelerator in Protvino. A dedicated beam momentum tagging system was used to measure the energy and spatial resolution.

PANDA is a challenging experimental setup to be implemented at the high-energy storage ring (HESR) at the international facility FAIR, GSI (Germany). PANDA physics program relies heavily on the ...capability to measure photons with excellent energy, position and timing resolution. For this purpose PANDA proposed to employ electromagnetic calorimeters using two different technologies: compact crystal calorimeter cooled to

Intensive theoretical and experimental efforts over the past decade have aimed at explaining the discrepancy between data for the proton electric to magnetic form factor ratio, G{sub E}/G{sub M}, ...obtained separately from cross section and polarization transfer measurements. One possible explanation for this difference is a two-photon-exchange contribution. In an effort to search for effects beyond the one-photon-exchange or Born approximation, we report measurements of polarization transfer observables in the elastic H({rvec e}, e' {rvec p}) reaction for three different beam energies at a Q{sup 2} = 2.5 GeV{sup 2}, spanning a wide range of the kinematic parameter {epsilon}. The ratio R, which equals {mu}{sub p}G{sub E}/G{sub M} in the Born approximation, is found to be independent of {epsilon} at the 1.5% level. The {epsilon} dependence of the longitudinal polarization transfer component P{sub {ell}} shows an enhancement of (2.3 {+-} 0.6)% relative to the Born approximation at large {epsilon}.
