Aim: To study genetic distance and phylogenetic relationship of two different stock of three important fish species, i.e., Channa stewartu, C. striatus and Labeo gonius of Assam. Methodology: Three ...fish species, namely Channa stewarti/, C. striatus and Labeo gonius were collected from two beeis, i.e., Thekera and Samaguri beeis of Assam, India. Standard procedures were followed for isolation of their DNAand sequencing. Thereafter, genetic distance and diversity and phylogenetic studies of three species were calculated using computer based softwares ClustalW and MEGA6. Results : In the present study, the pairwise genetic distance of three fish species ranged from 0 to 20.436. No pairwise distance was found between two stocks at different locations Thekera and Samaguri beeis of Assam for each of three species C. stewartii, C. striatus and L. gonius. The highest values (20.436) of pairwise distance were found between C. striatus and L. gonius population of Thekera beel; Thekera and Samaguri beels; and L. gonius population of the Thekera and Samaguri beeis. The overall average distance for the two populations of three fish species was 15.387. No significant intraspecific difference was observed in the phylogenetic studies of two stocks of three fish species. Interpretation : The overall average distance (15.387) of three fish species could be attributed to genetic distance from each other. The high value of coefficient of differentiation (1.000) for three fish species from two stocks indicated that all the species were different from each other. Overall genetic and phylogenetic studies revealed that C. stewartii, C. striatus and L. gonius. were less differentiated from each other.
We have measured the neutron spin asymmetry A{sub 1}{sup n} with high precision at three kinematics in the deep inelastic region at x = 0.33, 0.47 and 0.60, and Q{sup 2} = 2.7, 3.5 and 4.8 ...(GeV/c){sup 2}, respectively. Our results unambiguously show, for the first time, that A{sub 1}{sup n} crosses zero around x = 0.47 and becomes significantly positive at x = 0.60. Combined with the world proton data, polarized quark distributions were extracted. Our results, in general, agree with relativistic constituent quark models and with perturbative quantum chromodynamics (pQCD) analyses based on the earlier data. However they deviate from pQCD predictions based on hadron helicity conservation.
Flood control, drainage and irrigation (FCDI) schemes are widespread in Bangladesh. They are built to control water levels to improve agricultural production based on high yielding varieties (HYV) of ...rice that cannot tolerate rapid inundation or that require irrigation, and to provide protection from extreme flood events. The benefits to the agricultural sector can be significant. At some sites in Bangladesh, farmers report up to 80% more agricultural production inside the schemes than outside. However, fish production and species richness is typically lowered by these structures. Fish yields inside a typical flood control compartment can be 50% lower than outside, with up to 25 species of fish absent or less abundant. Lower rates of recruitment of migratory whitefish species, whose lateral migrations are obstructed by the embankments, were found to be largely responsible for these differences. With a risk of more extreme flooding during the monsoon season but hotter and more arid dry season conditions predicted as a consequence of climate change, more FCDI schemes may need to be constructed to provide flood protection and to meet increasing irrigation needs. Based on fisheries monitoring and mark-recapture studies undertaken at 3 sluice gates, nine recommendations for operating sluice gates to mitigate the impacts of FCDI schemes on fish production and biodiversity are described. These recommendations aim to improve the access of migratory whitefish to modified floodplains and to improve or sustain the production of resident (non-migratory) blackfish whilst minimising agricultural sector losses.
We have made the first measurements of the virtual Compton scattering (VCS) process via the H(e, e{sup '}p){gamma} exclusive reaction in the nucleon resonance region, at backward angles. Results are ...presented for the W-dependence at fixed Q{sup 2}=1 GeV{sup 2} and for the Q{sup 2} dependence at fixed W near 1.5 GeV. The VCS data show resonant structures in the first and second resonance regions. The observed Q{sup 2} dependence is smooth. The measured ratio of H(e, e{sup '}p){gamma} to H(e, e{sup '}p){pi}{sup 0} cross sections emphasizes the different sensitivity of these two reactions to the various nucleon resonances. Finally, when compared to real Compton scattering (RCS) at high energy and large angles, our VCS data at the highest W (1.8-1.9 GeV) show a striking Q{sup 2} independence, which may suggest a transition to a perturbative scattering mechanism at the quark level.
We report on parity-violating asymmetries in the nucleon resonance region measured using inclusive inelastic scattering of 5-6 GeV longitudinally polarized electrons off an unpolarized deuterium ...target. These results are the first parity-violating asymmetry data in the resonance region beyond the Δ(1232). They provide a verification of quark-hadron duality-the equivalence of the quark- and hadron-based pictures of the nucleon-at the (10-15)% level in this electroweak observable, which is dominated by contributions from the nucleon electroweak γZ interference structure functions. In addition, the results provide constraints on nucleon resonance models relevant for calculating background corrections to elastic parity-violating electron scattering measurements.
We report a virtual Compton scattering study of the proton at low c.m. energies. We have determined the structure functions P(LL)-P(TT)/epsilon and P(LT), and the electric and magnetic generalized ...polarizabilities (GPs) alpha(E)(Q2) and beta(M)(Q2) at momentum transfer Q(2)=0.92 and 1.76 GeV2. The electric GP shows a strong falloff with Q2, and its global behavior does not follow a simple dipole form. The magnetic GP shows a rise and then a falloff; this can be interpreted as the dominance of a long-distance diamagnetic pion cloud at low Q2, compensated at higher Q2 by a paramagnetic contribution from piN intermediate states.
