We report a case of perinatal infection that we believe is the first documented report of a congenital vesicular eruption due to Haemophilus influenzae type b and the second report of puerperal ...sepsis with this organism. A vesicular eruption was noted at birth on an infant delivered at 37 weeks following 34 hours' premature rupture of membranes. Gram-negative rods were seen on Gram stain of vesicular fluid, and H. influenzae type b grew on cultures of vesicular fluid. The mother sustained postpartum septicemia with the same organism. Amnionitis and funistis were demonstrated histologically. Results of all viral studies were negative. Infant and mother did well with antibiotic therapy.

In 1980 a syndrome was first described in two adult males, consisting of macrocephaly, pigmented macules on the glans and shaft of the penis, and hamartomatous intestinal polyps. Since then, 10 ...additional cases have been identified. Herein, we present two new cases and review the cutaneous manifestations as well as additional features in patients with the Ruvalcaba-Myhre-Smith syndrome.
Seven individuals from 3 generations of a French-Canadian family had various combinations of acral, renal, and ocular defects. Acral anomalies varied from mild hypoplastic distal portion of the ...thumbs, with limited motion at IP joint, to severe thumb hypoplasia and preaxial polydactyly. Renal anomalies varied from mild malrotation to crossed renal ectopia without fusion; other urinary tract anomalies were vesicoureteral reflux and bladder diverticula. Ocular manifestations varied from complete eye coloboma, coloboma of the optic nerve, ptosis, and Duane anomaly. The syndrome seems to be an autosomal dominant trait with high penetrance and variable expressivity. Dermatoglyphics were abnormal; in addition to a triradius t' present in all, some also had various combinations of high TRC, thenar exit of A line, and rare patterns in interdigital area IV.
Severe disseminated lung disease causing acute respiratory failure developed in a previously healthy 6 1/2-year-old boy. Mycoplasma pneumoniae was implicated and a complement-fixing antibody titre of ...1:1024 against this organism was detected. At autopsy bronchiectasis was found, affecting chiefly the right middle and lower lobes. The unusual radiologic and pathologic findings are discussed.
We report on the occurrence of intracranial aneurysms in several individuals of a large French-Canadian family. Recurrence risk from 22 previously reported families (each with at least two affected ...first degree relatives) and the present family does not allow any firm conclusion about the mode of inheritance of the trait.

We report two female sibs, with severe split-hand/split-foot malformation associated with renal and genital anomalies. The patients also have severe mandibular hypoplasia and some other, minor ...anomalies. The relationship to the acro-renal "syndrome" in particular and to other phenotypes with similar malformations in general is discussed. Because of consanguinity in the parents, autosomal recessive inheritance seems likely. However, the presence of a septate uterus in the mother and a double collecting system in the only living sib could also suggest possible dominant inheritance with variable expressivity.
While leaders are searching for complex solutions to the economic crisis, well-established trends in ordinary business collaboration could convert this mess into a bold new opportunity to unify left- ...and right-wing values, resolve what is being called the "moral crisis of capitalism," and jump-start the economy. Our surveys of hundreds of managers show that more than 80 percent of them favor stakeholder collaboration. ... a number of studies now confirm that having women in corporate leadership improves business performance, largely because women excel at forming effective working relationships.
