High-β_{θe} (a ratio of the electron thermal pressure to the poloidal magnetic pressure) steady-state long-pulse plasmas with steep central electron temperature gradient are achieved in the ...Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak. An intrinsic current is observed to be modulated by turbulence driven by the electron temperature gradient. This turbulent current is generated in the countercurrent direction and can reach a maximum ratio of 25% of the bootstrap current. Gyrokinetic simulations and experimental observations indicate that the turbulence is the electron temperature gradient mode (ETG). The dominant mechanism for the turbulent current generation is due to the divergence of ETG-driven residual flux of current. Good agreement has been found between experiments and theory for the critical value of the electron temperature gradient triggering ETG and for the level of the turbulent current. The maximum values of turbulent current and electron temperature gradient lead to the destabilization of an m/n=1/1 kink mode, which by counteraction reduces the turbulence level (m and n are the poloidal and toroidal mode number, respectively). These observations suggest that the self-regulation system including turbulence, turbulent current, and kink mode is a contributing mechanism for sustaining the steady-state long-pulse high-β_{θe} regime.
Strain concentration at grain boundaries and grain boundary microstructure in cold worked Alloy 600 were characterized. Excluding the annealing twin boundaries, the base and 20% cold worked alloys ...exhibited higher random grain boundary fractions than the 8% and 40% cold worked alloys. An increased low angle boundaries and decreased annealing twins were observed with deformation. The 20% cold worked alloy displayed a maximum strain concentration at grain boundaries. The stress corrosion cracking growth in cold worked Alloy 600 in high temperature water showed a strong correlation with the strain concentration at grain boundaries.
•We examine the area fraction covered by precipitates on grain boundaries by TEM.•Increasing of over-ageing time increases the grain boundary precipitates coverage.•Moderate over-ageing increases the ...SCC resistance of an Al–Zn–Mg alloy.•Excessive over-ageing decreases the SCC resistance of an Al–Zn–Mg alloy.
The correlations between grain boundary precipitates (GBPs) area fraction and stress corrosion cracking (SCC) susceptibility for an Al–Zn–Mg alloy have been studied using TEM statistical investigations and image analysis. The results reveal that SCC susceptibility of the Al–Zn–Mg alloy first decreases and then increases with the increase of GBPs area fraction, which does not agree with Dix’s anodic dissolution theory, suggesting that SCC of the Al–Zn–Mg alloy is dominated by hydrogen induced cracking when GBPs area fraction is relatively low and is dominated by anodic dissolution when GBPs area fraction is relatively high.
•An UPLC–MS/MS method was established to determinate multi-mycotoxin in milk.•The optimal solid phase extraction (SPE) cartridge was selected at 0.025μgkg−1.•The optimal SPE conditions were ...screened.•The matrix effects of different milk matrixes were evaluated and compensated.
In this study, a sensitive and rapid method has been developed for the simultaneous determination of aflatoxin M1, ochratoxin A, zearalenone and α-zearalenol in milk by ultra high performance liquid chromatography combined with electrospray ionisation triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC–ESI–MS/MS). The milk samples were purified using Oasis HLB cartridge. The matrix effects were evaluated by determining the signal suppression–enhancement (SSE) and corrected by external matrix-matched calibration. The limits of quantity (LOQ) of the mycotoxins were in the range of 0.003–0.015μgkg−1. The high correlation coefficients (R2⩾0.996) were obtained in the range of 0.01–1.00μgkg−1 of the mycotoxins, along with good recovery (87.0–109%), repeatability (3.4–9.9%) and intra-laboratory reproducibility (4.0–9.9%) at the concentrations of 0.025, 0.1 and 0.5μgkg−1. The detected rates of the mycotoxins were from 16.7% to 96.7% in raw milk, liquid milk and milk powder samples collected from the dairy farms and supermarkets in Beijing. The method proposed is suitable for the simultaneous determination of aflatoxin M1, ochratoxin A, zearalenone, and α-zearalenol, and could be performed for analysing the mycotoxins in milk.
Auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder (ANSD) is one of the most common diseases leading to hearing and speech communication barriers in infants and young children. The OTOF gene is the first gene ...identified for autosomal recessive non‐syndromic ANSD, and patients with OTOF mutations have shown marked improvement of auditory functions from the cochlear implantation, but the true involvement of OTOF mutations in Chinese ANSD patients is still unknown which precludes the effective management of this disease. Here, we investigated the contribution of OTOF mutations to congenital ANSD patients in China. In all, 37 infants and young Children with ANSD were screened for all the exons of OTOF gene, of them 34 patients had no neonatal risk factors who were considered as congenital ANSD. The clinical manifestation and audiometric features were also investigated and compared in patients with and without OTOF mutations. In all, 14 of these subjects were shown to carry two or three mutant alleles of OTOF with the high frequency of 41.2% in congenital ANSD patients. In total, 15 novel pathogenic mutations and 10 reported mutations were identified. Our results confirmed that mutations in OTOF gene were a major cause of congenital ANSD in China. Identification of OTOF mutations can facilitate diagnosis, clinical intervention and counseling for congenital ANSD.
Knowledge of the rigidity dependence of the boron to carbon flux ratio (B/C) is important in understanding the propagation of cosmic rays. The precise measurement of the B/C ratio from 1.9 GV to 2.6 ...TV, based on 2.3 million boron and 8.3 million carbon nuclei collected by AMS during the first 5 years of operation, is presented. The detailed variation with rigidity of the B/C spectral index is reported for the first time. The B/C ratio does not show any significant structures in contrast to many cosmic ray models that require such structures at high rigidities. Remarkably, above 65 GV, the B/C ratio is well described by a single power law R^{Δ} with index Δ=-0.333±0.014(fit)±0.005(syst), in good agreement with the Kolmogorov theory of turbulence which predicts Δ=-1/3 asymptotically.
A precision measurement by AMS of the antiproton flux and the antiproton-to-proton flux ratio in primary cosmic rays in the absolute rigidity range from 1 to 450 GV is presented based on 3.49×10^{5} ...antiproton events and 2.42×10^{9} proton events. The fluxes and flux ratios of charged elementary particles in cosmic rays are also presented. In the absolute rigidity range ∼60 to ∼500 GV, the antiproton pover ¯, proton p, and positron e^{+} fluxes are found to have nearly identical rigidity dependence and the electron e^{-} flux exhibits a different rigidity dependence. Below 60 GV, the (pover ¯/p), (pover ¯/e^{+}), and (p/e^{+}) flux ratios each reaches a maximum. From ∼60 to ∼500 GV, the (pover ¯/p), (pover ¯/e^{+}), and (p/e^{+}) flux ratios show no rigidity dependence. These are new observations of the properties of elementary particles in the cosmos.
•Cyclic uniaxial increasing-amplitude decreasing-frequency (CUIADF) loads on pre-flawed rock.•Rock bridge length affects strength, volumetric deformation AE b-value and failure modes.•A new damage ...variable is defined using AE accumulative energy and an inverted “S” shaped damage evolution model was proposed.•CT images highlight the coalescence pattern and three coalescence modes were identified.
Rock mass is often encountered with complicated stress disturbance, the cyclic or fatigue loading path with fixed loading frequency and amplitude are widely performed. To date, however, rock instability induced by cyclic uniaxial increasing-amplitude decreasing-frequency (CUIADF) loads was not well understood. In this work, granite samples containing a circular hole and two fissures with different rock bridge length were used to conduct CUIADF loading tests. The fatigue strength, deformation, AE output activities, damage propagation and crack coalescence were comprehensively investigated. Testing results show that the fatigue strength, volumetric deformation and fatigue lifetime increase with increasing rock bridge length. The AE-b value decreases as cyclic number grows and it is relatively large for rock having high rock bridge length. A new damage variable is defined using AE accumulative energy and an inverted “S” shaped damage evolution model was proposed to describe rock damage propagation in the entire process. Moreover, three failure modes of single tensile coalescence, single shear coalescence and double shear coalescence were revealed from the reconstructed CT images. It is suggested that the rock bridge length impacts the rock instability a lot, and the interactions between the hole and fissure are the weakest for a sample with long rock bridge.
Epidemiological studies have reported inconsistent associations between cruciferous vegetable (CV) intake and colorectal cancer (CRC) risk. To our knowledge, a comprehensive and quantitative ...assessment of the association between CV intake and CRC has not been reported.
Relevant articles were identified by searching MEDLINE. We pooled the relative risks (RR) from individual studies using a random-effect model and carried out heterogeneity and publication bias analyses.
Twenty-four case–control and 11 prospective studies were included in our analysis. When all studies were pooled, we yielded a significantly inverse association between CV (RR: 0.82; 95% confidence interval 0.75–0.90) intake and CRC risk. Specific analysis for cabbage and broccoli yielded similar result. When separately analyzed, case–control studies of CV intake yield similar results, and the results from the prospective studies showed borderline statistical significance. Moreover, significant inverse associations were also observed in colon cancer and its distal subsite both among prospective and case–control studies.
Findings from this meta-analysis provide evidence that high intake of CV was inversely associated with the risk of CRC and colon cancer in humans. Further analysis on other specific CV, food preparation methods, stratified results by anatomic cancer site, and subsite of colon cancer should be extended in future study.
We present the precision measurement from May 2011 to May 2017 (79 Bartels rotations) of the proton fluxes at rigidities from 1 to 60 GV and the helium fluxes from 1.9 to 60 GV based on a total of ...1×10^{9} events collected with the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer aboard the International Space Station. This measurement is in solar cycle 24, which has the solar maximum in April 2014. We observed that, below 40 GV, the proton flux and the helium flux show nearly identical fine structures in both time and relative amplitude. The amplitudes of the flux structures decrease with increasing rigidity and vanish above 40 GV. The amplitudes of the structures are reduced during the time period, which started one year after solar maximum, when the proton and helium fluxes steadily increase. Above ∼3 GV the p/He flux ratio is time independent. We observed that below ∼3 GV the ratio has a long-term decrease coinciding with the period during which the fluxes start to rise.
