A highly pathogenic pig disease emerged in China in 2006, which was characterized by prolonged high fever, red discoloration of the body, and blue ears associated with high mortality. Porcine ...reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) was isolated as the single most prominent virus in the samples collected from affected pigs. The full-length genomic sequence of the virus revealed two distinct deletions in the non-structural protein 2 (NSP2) in comparison to all previously reported North American genotype PRRSV. Through extensive surveys in 14 different provinces, 56 additional PRRSV isolates were obtained from affected farms. All of the isolates were found to contain identical deletions in NSP2. To confirm the etiology, eight 60-day-old PRRSV-free pigs were divided into two groups and the test group was intranasally infected at a titer of 2 x 10⁵.⁰ tissue culture infectious dose 50 per pig. The inoculated pigs all died at 7, 8, 12, 16, or 21 days post-inoculation with their clinical and pathological findings similar to those in the field. The viruses recovered from dead pigs were identical to the inoculated virus in NSP2 and GP5 genes. Our study shows that the recently emerged PRRSV in China is characterized by two discontiguous deletions in NSP2 and is the cause for the current epizootics in China.
Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are highly dispersed, millisecond-duration radio bursts1-3. Recent observations of a Galactic FRB4-8 suggest that at least some FRBs originate from magnetars, but the origin ...of cosmological FRBs is still not settled. Here we report the detection of1,863 bursts in 82 h over 54 days from the repeating source FRB 20201124A (ref.9). These observations show irregular short-time variation ofthe Faraday rotation measure (RM), which scrutinizes the density-weighted line-of-sight magnetic field strength, of individual bursts during the first 36 days, followed by a constant RM. We detected circular polarization in more than half of the burst sample, including one burst reaching a high fractional circular polarization of 75%. Oscillations in fractional linear and circular polarizations, as well as polarization angle as a function of wavelength, were detected. All of these features provide evidence for a complicated, dynamically evolving, magnetized immediate environment within about an astronomical unit (au; Earth-Sun distance) ofthe source. Our optical observations of its Milky-Way-sized, metal-rich host galaxy10-12 show a barred spiral, with the FRB source residing in a low-stellar-density interarm region at an intermediate galactocentric distance. This environment is inconsistent with a young magnetar engine formed during an extreme explosion of a massive star that resulted in a long gamma-ray burst or superluminous supernova.
Background
The aim of this study was to evaluate whether adjuvant chemotherapy is associated with improved survival in patients with resectable gastric neuroendocrine carcinomas (G‐NECs) or mixed ...adenoneuroendocrine carcinomas (G‐MANECs).
Methods
The study included patients with G‐NECs or G‐MANECs who underwent surgery in one of 21 centres in China between 2004 and 2016. Propensity score matching analysis was used to reduce selection bias, and overall survival (OS) in different treatment groups was estimated by the Kaplan–Meier method.
Results
In total, 804 patients with resectable G‐NECs or G‐MANECs were included, of whom 490 (60·9 per cent) received adjuvant chemotherapy. After propensity score matching, OS in the chemotherapy group was similar to that in the no‐chemotherapy group. Among patients with G‐NECs, survival in the fluorouracil (5‐FU)‐based chemotherapy group and the non‐5‐FU‐based chemotherapy group was similar to that in the no‐chemotherapy group. Similarly, etoposide plus cisplatin or irinotecan plus cisplatin was not associated with better OS in patients with G‐NECs. Among patients with G‐MANECs, OS in the non‐5‐FU‐based chemotherapy group was worse than that in the no‐chemotherapy group. Patients with G‐MANECs did not have better OS when platinum‐based chemotherapy was
used.
Conclusion
There was no survival benefit in patients who received adjuvant chemotherapy for G‐NECs or G‐MANECs.
Antecedentes
This multicentre study enrolled 804 patients with resectable gastric neuroendocrine carcinomas and gastric mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinomas. In propensity score matching analysis, there were no associations between the use of adjuvant chemotherapy and improved overall survival. Similar results were obtained in stratified analysis according to different chemotherapy regimens.

We report on the discovery of drifting subpulses from the Vela pulsar, observed using the Yunnan 40 m radio telescope at 6800 MHz observing frequency. The single pulses show the presence of two ...distinct drifting patterns, where the central component is modulated in longitude and amplitude simultaneously with a period of 9 pulses, and the trailing component remains phase stationary within the pulse window but periodically changes in intensity with a period of 29 pulses. The leading component emission remains constant in intensity and pulse phase. Such periodic modulation in the Vela pulsar is a separate phenomenon from periodic nulling and traditional subpulse drifting, which may lead to a greater understanding of the pulse emission mechanism.
ABSTRACT
We present our piggyback search for fast radio bursts using the Nanshan 26 m Radio Telescope and the Kunming 40 m Radio Telescope. The observations are performed in the L band from 1380 to ...1700 MHz at Nanshan and the Sband from 2170 to 2310 MHz at Kunming. We built the roach2-based FFT spectrometer and developed the real-time transient search software. We introduce a new radio interference mitigation technique named zero-DM matched filter and give the formula of the signal-to-noise ratio loss in the transient search. Though we have no positive detection of bursts in about 1600 and 2400 h data at Nanshan and Kunming, respectively, an intriguing peryton was detected at Nanshan, from which hundreds of bursts were recorded. Perytons are terrestrial radio signals that mimic celestial fast radio bursts. They were first reported at Parkes and identified as microwave oven interferences later. The bursts detected at Nanshan show similar frequency swept emission and have double-peaked profiles. They appeared in different sky regions in about tens of minutes observations and the dispersion measure index is not exactly 2, which indicates the terrestrial origin. The peryton differs drastically from the known perytons detected at Parkes, because it appeared in a precise period of p = 1.712 87 ± 0.000 04 s. Its origin remains unknown.

The wear resistance coating alloy Tribaloy T-900 modified by aluminium and yttrium was prepared by mechanical alloying. The hot corrosion behaviour of modified and unmodified alloys was investigated at 900 °C. Results revealed that T-900AlY with aluminium plus yttrium showed the superior hot corrosion resistance. The Yttrium addition promoted the selective oxidation of Al and Cr and accelerated a continuous oxide layer of Al2O3 and Cr2O3. The oxides layer acted as a barrier against the molten salt attack. The early formation of chromia and alumina layer obstructed the formation of outer NiO and MoO3, which were more susceptible to the liquid salt attack.
Testicular phagocytosis by Sertoli cells (SCs) plays an essential role in the efficient clearance of apoptotic spermatogenic cells under both physiological and pathological conditions. However, the ...molecular mechanism underlying this unique process is poorly understood. Herein, we report for the first time that α-taxilin protein (TXLNA), a binding partner of the syntaxin family that functions as a central player in the intracellular vesicle traffic, was dominantly expressed in SCs. Induction of apoptosis in murine meiotic spermatocytes and haploid spermatids by busulfan treatment stimulated a significant increase of TXLNA in SCs at day (d) 14 and d 24 after busulfan treatment, respectively. Consistently, TXLNA expression was steadily upregulated when SCs were co-cultured with apoptotic germ cells (GCs). Moreover, using siRNA treatment, we found that ablation of endogenous TXLNA significantly impaired the phagocytotic capacity of SCs and thereby resulted in defective spermiogenesis and reduced fertility during the late recovery after testicular heat stress. Mechanistically, upregulation of TXLNA expression by apoptotic GCs was associated with the stabilization of ATP-binding cassette transporter 1 (ABCA1), a transporter-mediated lipid efflux from SCs and influencing male fertility. TXLNA acted as an upstream suppressor of ABCA1 ubiquitination and thus promoted ABCA1 stability and accumulation following GC apoptosis. We further provide in vitro evidence that epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-mediated phosphorylation regulated ABCA1 ubiquitination and was enhanced by TXLNA deficiency during testicular phagocytosis. Taken together, the TXLNA/ABCA1 cascade may serve as an important feedback mechanism to modulate the magnitude of subsequent phagocytotic process of SCs in response to testicular injury.

To investigate the response of cucumber seedlings to exogenous salicylic acid (SA) and gain a better understanding of SA action mechanism, we generated a proteomic profile of cucumber (Cucumis ...sativus L.) cotyledons treated with exogenous SA. Analysis of 1500 protein spots from each gel revealed 63 differentially expressed proteins, 59 of which were identified successfully. Of the identified proteins, 97% matched cucumber proteins using a whole cucumber protein database based on the newly completed genome established by our laboratory. The identified proteins were involved in various cellular responses and metabolic processes, including antioxidative reactions, cell defense, photosynthesis, carbohydrate metabolism, respiration and energy homeostasis, protein folding and biosynthesis. The two largest functional categories included proteins involved in antioxidative reactions (23.7%) and photosynthesis (18.6%). Furthermore, the SA-responsive protein interaction network revealed 13 key proteins, suggesting that the expression changes of these proteins could be critical for SA-induced resistance. An analysis of these changes suggested that SA-induced resistance and seedling growth might be regulated in part through pathways involving antioxidative reactions and photosynthesis.
