products were tested using 8 repeated cross-sections of the Youth Risk Behavior Survey between 1999 and 2013. Tests for effect modification of race/ethnicity and sex were conducted for each trend. Results: Among all students, there were significant non-linear changes detected for the
concurrent use of all 3 products, and the dual use of cigarettes and cigars. Girls significantly increased their use of SLT. Among users, significant changes were detected for each individual product and all combinations. Female users significantly increased their concurrent use of cigarettes
and cigars and concurrent use of cigarettes and SLT. Male users significantly decreased their use of cigarettes and cigars. Conclusion: Whereas the decreased prevalence of cigarette use by youth is a public health success, there is concern about the increase in non-cigarette products,
among tobacco users. These changes further drive increases in the concurrent use of tobacco products, adding to the potential health burden.

students in these counties during the 2014-2015 academic year. Weighted prevalence of the use of tobacco products, drugs and alcohol in wave I, and the percent of: (1) bias, (2) relative bias, and (3) relative bias ratio, between waves I and II are estimated. Results: The wave I sample
included 79 schools and 3907 students. The prevalence of current cigarette, e-cigarette and hookah use at wave I was 3.5%, 7.4%, and 2.5%, respectively. Small biases, mostly less than 3.7%, were observed for non-respondents in wave II. Conclusions: Even with
adaptations to the sampling method, the resulting sample adequately represents the target population. Results from TATAMS will have important implications for future tobacco policy in Texas and federal regulation.
Currently available human tumour cell line panels consist of a small number of lines in each lineage that generally fail to retain the phenotype of the original patient tumour. Here we develop a cell ...culture medium that enables us to routinely establish cell lines from diverse subtypes of human ovarian cancers with >95% efficiency. Importantly, the 25 new ovarian tumour cell lines described here retain the genomic landscape, histopathology and molecular features of the original tumours. Furthermore, the molecular profile and drug response of these cell lines correlate with distinct groups of primary tumours with different outcomes. Thus, tumour cell lines derived using this methodology represent a significantly improved platform to study human tumour pathophysiology and response to therapy.
The aim of this study was to determine the health utility states of the most commonly used traumatic brain injury (TBI) clinical trial endpoint, the Extended Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOSE).
Health ...utilities represent the strength of one's preferences under conditions of uncertainty. There are insufficient data to indicate how an individual would value levels of disability after a TBI.
This was a cross-sectional web-based online convenience sampling adaptive survey. Using a standard gamble approach, participants evaluated their preferences for GOSE health states 1 year after a hypothetical TBI. The categorical GOSE was studied from vegetative state (GOSE2) to upper good recovery (GOSE8). Median (25th percentile, 75th percentile) health utility values for different GOSE states after TBI, ranging from -1 (worse than death) to 1 (full health), with 0 as reference (death).
Of 3508 eligible participants, 3235 (92.22%) completed the survey. Participants rated lower GOSE states as having lower utility, with some states rated as worse than death, though the relationship was nonlinear and intervals were unequal between health states. Over 75% of participants rated a vegetative state (GOSE2, absence of awareness and bedridden) and about 50% rated lower severe disability (GOSE3, housebound needing all-day assistance) as conditions worse than death.
In the largest investigation of public perceptions about post-TBI disability, we demonstrate unequally rated health states, with some states perceived as worse than death. Although limited by selection bias, these results may guide future comparative-effectiveness research and shared medical decision-making after neurologic injury.
Intrawound liposomal bupivacaine is a long-acting local anesthetic used to decrease postoperative pain in various procedures. Although it is used in posterior cervical and suboccipital approaches in ...the adult population, it is currently off-label for pediatrics. This quality improvement (QI) project examines intrawound liposomal bupivacaine for pediatric Chiari decompression and evaluates its role in postoperative opioid consumption.
We retrospectively analyzed all patients 0-18 years old of age who underwent Chiari decompression from January 2017 to July 2019 at our tertiary care hospital. Demographic and clinical data regarding postoperative opioid use, subjective and objective pain control, length of stay, discharge medications, and comorbid conditions were collected.
We included 30 patients in this study: 19 females and 11 males. Of these, 6 received an intrawound injection of liposomal bupivacaine.

There was no apparent difference in pain control immediately postoperatively, pain control at clinical follow-up, or inpatient length of stay between each group. Patients who received liposomal bupivacaine did not require opioid analgesics at the time of discharge from the hospital.
The use of intrawound liposomal bupivacaine may decrease inpatient and outpatient postoperative opioid consumption amongst pediatric patients following Chiari decompression while providing adequate pain control. We investigate liposomal bupivacaine perioperative blockade in this QI project as a viable option for opioid-sparing pain control in the postoperative setting for the pediatric population. Future investigation via clinical trials and more extensive prospective studies may glean further insights into efficacy.
Clerkships are defining experiences for medical students in which students integrate basic science knowledge with clinical information as they gain experience in diagnosing and treating patients in a ...variety of clinical settings. Among the basic sciences, there is broad agreement that anatomy is foundational for medical practice. Unfortunately, there are longstanding concerns that student knowledge of anatomy is below the expectations of clerkship directors and clinical faculty. Most allopathic medical schools require eight "core" clerkships: internal medicine (IM), pediatrics (PD), general surgery (GS), obstetrics and gynecology (OB), psychiatry (PS), family medicine (FM), neurology (NU), and emergency medicine (EM). A targeted needs assessment was conducted to determine the anatomy considered important for each core clerkship based on the perspective of clinicians teaching in those clerkships. A total of 525 clinical faculty were surveyed at 24 United States allopathic medical schools. Participants rated 97 anatomical structure groups across all body regions on a 1-4 Likert-type scale (1 = not important, 4 = essential). Non-parametric ANOVAs determined if differences existed between clerkships. Combining all responses, 91% of anatomical structure groups were classified as "essential" or "more important." Clinicians in FM, EM, and GS rated anatomical structures in most body regions significantly higher than at least one other clerkship (p = 0.006). This study provides an evidence-base of anatomy content that should be considered important for each core clerkship and may assist in the development and/or revision of preclinical curricula to support the clinical training of medical students.
INTRODUCTION
Late‐onset Alzheimer's disease (LOAD) has a strong genetic component. Participants in Long‐Life Family Study (LLFS) exhibit delayed onset of dementia, offering a unique opportunity to ...investigate LOAD genetics.
METHODS
We conducted a whole genome sequence analysis of 3475 LLFS members. Genetic associations were examined in six independent studies (N = 14,260) with a wide range of LOAD risk. Association analysis in a sub‐sample of the LLFS cohort (N = 1739) evaluated the association of LOAD variants with beta amyloid (Aβ) levels.
RESULTS
We identified several single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in tight linkage disequilibrium within the MTUS2 gene associated with LOAD (rs73154407, p = 7.6 × 10−9). Association of MTUS2 variants with LOAD was observed in the five independent studies and was significantly stronger within high levels of Aβ42/40 ratio compared to lower amyloid.
DISCUSSION
MTUS2 encodes a microtubule associated protein implicated in the development and function of the nervous system, making it a plausible candidate to investigate LOAD biology.
