Avery August is a Professor of Immunology in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Cornell University. His work is focused on T cell receptor signaling and the development of T cell ...subsets. I chatted with Avery about his journey is science so far.
Anastacia Awad is the Head of Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) globally for the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research, which is the research engine of Novartis. She completed her PhD in genetics ...and molecular biology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, followed by a postdoc with Alan Hall at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. I chatted with Anastacia about her career in science and her journey from the bench to industry.

Akiko Iwasaki is a Waldemar Von Zedtwitz Professor of Immunobiology, a Professor of Molecular and Cellular and Developmental Biology at Yale, and an Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical ...Institute. Her laboratory works on a wide variety of topics, from mucosal immunology to viruses, and recently she published a pioneering paper showing how the meningeal lymphatic vasculature can be manipulated with VEGF-C to promote an immune response to glioblastoma. She is the future president of the American Association of Immunologists, a JEM Advisory Editor, has been awarded numerous prizes, and is a true Twitter celebrity. I chatted with Akiko to find out about her career so far and about being a woman in STEM.
Siamon Gordon is a Glaxo Wellcome Professor Emeritus of Cellular Pathology at the University of Oxford and a fellow of the Royal Society. Throughout his career, Siamon has focused on macrophages, and ...his work led to the identification of the pan-macrophage marker F4/80 and the description of a role for Dectin-1 in the innate recognition of β-glucans. I caught up with Siamon to discuss his career path and his thoughts on macrophages.
Vijay Rathinam is an Assistant Professor of Immunology and the Director of the Graduate Program in Immunology at UConn Health. His work is focused on understanding pathogen recognition by the innate ...immune system, specifically how the inflammasome is activated by Gram-negative bacteria. I caught up with Vijay to find out more about his journey in science.

Iannis Aifantis is a principal investigator at NYU Langone Medical Center, and his laboratory works on the molecular mechanisms that drive normal stem cell differentiation and malignant ...transformation. Specifically, they're interested in the genomic, epigenetic, and proteomic regulation of hematopoietic stem cell differentiation and the induction of leukemia and lymphoma; some of their basic research has led to clinical trials in leukemia and myelodysplastic syndromes. I chatted with Iannis to find out about his career in science so far.
Ross Levine is a physician-scientist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, where his laboratory studies the genetic basis of myeloid malignancies. Work from Ross' laboratory has ...shown how mutations in the JAK-STAT pathway and epigenetic regulators play a role in myeloproliferative neoplasms, and JAK inhibitors are now successfully used to treat myeloproliferative neoplasms. We spoke to Ross about his journey in science so far.
