We present Mg and Fe isotopic data for whole rocks and separated minerals (olivine, clinopyroxene, orthopyroxene, garnet, and phlogopite) of garnet peridotites that equilibrated at depths of ...134–186km beneath the Kaapvaal and Siberian cratons. There is no clear difference in δ26Mg and δ56Fe of garnet peridotites from these two cratons. δ26Mg of whole rocks varies from −0.243‰ to −0.204‰ with an average of −0.225±0.037‰ (2σ, n=19), and δ56Fe from −0.038‰ to 0.060‰ with an average of −0.003±0.068‰ (2σ, n=19). Both values are indistinguishable from the fertile upper mantle, indicating that there is no significant Mg-Fe isotopic difference between the shallow and deep upper mantle. The garnet peridotites from ancient cratons show δ26Mg similar to komatiites and basalts, further suggesting that there is no obvious Mg isotopic fractionation during different degrees of partial melting of deep mantle peridotites and komatiite formation.
The precision of the Mg and Fe isotope data (⩽±0.05‰ for δ26Mg and δ56Fe, 2σ) allows us to distinguish inter-mineral isotopic fractionations. Olivines are in equilibrium with opx in terms of Mg and Fe isotopes. Garnets have the lowest δ26Mg and δ56Fe among the coexisting mantle minerals, suggesting the dominant control of crystal structure on the Mg-Fe isotopic compositions of garnets. Elemental compositions and mineralogy suggest that clinopyroxene and garnet were produced by later metasomatic processes as they are not in chemical equilibrium with olivine or orthopyroxene. This is consistent with the isotopic disequilibrium of Mg and Fe isotopes between orthopyroxene/olivine and garnet/clinopyroxene. Combined with one sample showing slightly heavy δ26Mg and much lighter δ56Fe, these disequilibrium features in the garnet peridotites reveal kinetic isotopic fractionation due to Fe-Mg inter-diffusion during reaction between peridotites and percolating melts in the Kaapvaal craton.
Carbon-based materials are recognized as promising candidates for pollutant degradation because of their environmental benignity. Massive and cost-effective production and efficient recovery of ...carbon-based catalysts are crucial to apply this technology. However, various nanostructured carbons with different dimensions are usually utilized as precursors while not considering their complex preparation procedures and the high costs of ingredients. Moreover, catalyst separation and recovery are not given sufficient attention. In this work, a calcium salt-assisted pyrolysis strategy is proposed to tune the catalytic site formation of carbon-based catalysts. Results show that blending equal amounts of Ca2+ (calcium chloride) and organic precursors could greatly improve the catalytic activity of the carbonated product to activate peroxymonosulfate for pollutant degradation. In addition, the proposed synthetic strategy is universal to most of the readily accessed and cost-effective organic precursors. Singlet oxygen is identified as the main reactive oxidant for pollutant removal in the catalytic reaction. By cross-linking calcium ions and alginate as a hydrogel to immobilize the catalyst, the carbon material could be readily recovered. Furthermore, a long-term continuous-flow reactor test is conducted to validate the effectiveness of applying the immobilized catalyst to treat a synthetic wastewater with 0.5 mM bisphenol A. As a result, a green synthesis and immobilization strategy for persulfate catalysts is successfully established, and the prepared catalyst might be applied for wastewater treatment through using calcium salt in two purposes.
Abstract
Biases in simulating the diurnal cycle of convection near the western coast of the island of Sumatra have been investigated using the data from the pilot field campaign of the Years of the ...Maritime Continent (pre-YMC). The campaign was carried out at a sea Research Vessel (R/V) Mirai and a land (Bengkulu, Sumatra) site. Simulations are performed using a tropical configuration of the Met Office model at a grid resolution of 1.5 km in a limited-area mode. The focus of this study is to understand how biases in the input conditions from ECMWF high-resolution deterministic forecast affect the diurnal cycle. Modeled precipitation is found to be delayed and weak, with cold SST bias in the model as the key contributing factor affecting convection at both sites. Colder SST causes a delay in the trigger of convection at Bengkulu by delaying the onset of the local land breeze, which in turn delays the local convergence. The cold outflow from precipitation over the adjacent mountain is also found to be delayed in the model, contributing to the total delay. This delay in the evening convection at Bengkulu is shown to directly affect the timing of nighttime convection at Mirai. Weaker convection at Bengkulu is argued to be due to lower-tropospheric dry humidity bias in the model initial condition. Convection at Mirai is shown to be caused by the convergence of the cold outflow from Bengkulu with the prevailing landward wind over the sea. Both thermodynamic and dynamic conditions near the cold outflow front are found to be less favorable for intense convection in the simulation, the reason for which is argued to be a combination of the cold SST bias and a weaker cold outflow.
Since their introduction in the early 2000s, the use of social networking websites has exploded. Many businesses are seeing increased revenue due to their social commerce strategy. Despite the ...popularity of social commerce websites, some consumers are still hesitate to use them. This study aims to evaluate the factors that influence the adoption of social commerce. A sample of 721 Chinese We Chat users took part in the research. The findings reveal that social capital mediates the positive effect of social commerce adoption and perceived ease of use (PERU) on techno-stress and online impulse purchasing. Likewise, information overloading mediates the positive effect of social commerce adoption and PERU on techno-stress and online impulse purchasing. The findings have implications for both practice and research in understanding social commerce adoption in emerging economies.
Dynamin has an important role in clathrin-mediated endocytosis by cutting the neck of nascent vesicles from the cell membrane. Here, using gold nanorods as cargos to image dynamin action during live ...clathrin-mediated endocytosis, we show that, near the peak of dynamin accumulation, the cargo-containing vesicles always exhibit abrupt, right-handed rotations that finish in a short time (~0.28 s). The large and quick twist, herein named the super twist, is the result of the coordinated dynamin helix action upon GTP hydrolysis. After the super twist, the rotational freedom of the vesicle increases substantially, accompanied by simultaneous or delayed translational movement, indicating that it detaches from the cell membrane. These observations suggest that dynamin-mediated scission involves a large torque generated by the coordinated actions of multiple dynamins in the helix, which is the main driving force for vesicle scission.
Relational norms are often used to govern interfirm relationships. However, an emerging stream of work has identified their potential “dark sides.” This study examines why and when the benefits or ...drawbacks occur. Based on a survey of tourism enterprises in China, an integrative model composed of relational norms, commitment, relationship performance (including collaborative innovation and opportunistic behavior), and substitutability is confirmed. The results show that the effectiveness of relational norms depends on the partner’s commitment types and the contexts in which those norms are embedded. Although relational norms promote collaborative innovation through both the calculative and affective commitment, they are likely to foster the partner’s opportunistic behavior through calculative commitment. The substitutability of a tourism enterprise is found to influence the strength of the relationships between relational norms and the two types of commitment. These findings offer important implications for tourism businesses.
•Robust contact tracing with an integrated system effectively intervenes early transmission of COVID-19 in Taiwan.•Developing an integrated management system to support traditional contact tracing is ...critical in response to control the spread of COVID-19.•Management tools augment the capacity and decrease workloads of contact tracers, which improve contact tracing effectiveness.
Comprehensive case investigation and contact tracing are crucial to prevent community spread of COVID-19. We demonstrated a utility of using traditional contact tracing measures supplemented with symptom tracking and contact management system to assist public health workers with high efficiency.
A centralized contact tracing system was developed to support data linkage, cross-jurisdictional coordination, and follow-up of contacts’ health status. We illustrated the process of how digital tools support contact tracing and management of COVID-19 cases and measured the timeliness from case detection to contact monitoring to evaluate system performance.
Among the 8051 close contacts of the 487 confirmed cases (16.5 close contacts/case, 95% CI 13.9–19.1), the median elapsed time from last exposure to quarantine was three days (IQR 1–5). By implementing the approach of self-reporting using automatic text-messages and web-app, the percentage of health status updates from self-reporting increased from 22.5% to 61.5%. The high proportion of secondary cases detected via contact tracing (88%) might reduce the R0 to under one and minimize the impact of local transmission in the community.
Comprehensive contact tracing and management with complementary technology would still be a pillar of strategies for containing outbreaks during de-escalation or early in the next wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
Surface-protecting ligands, as a major component of metal nanoclusters (MNCs), can dominate molecular characteristics, performance behaviors, and biological properties of MNCs, which brings diversity ...and flexibility to the nanoclusters and largely promotes their applications in optics, electricity, magnetism, catalysis, biology, and other fields. We report herein the design of a new kind of water-soluble luminescent gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) for enzyme-activatable charge transfer (CT) based on the ligand engineering of AuNCs with 6-mercaptopurine ribonucleoside (MPR). , can form a stable intramolecular CT state after light excitation, and exhibits long-lived color-tunable phosphorescence. After the cleavage by purine nucleoside phosphorylase (PNP), the CT triplet state can be easily directed to a low-lying energy level, leading to a bathochromic shift of the emission band accompanied by weaker and shorter-lived luminescence. Remarkably, these ligand-engineered AuNCs show high affinity towards PNP as well as decent performance for analyzing and visualizing enzyme activity and related drugs. The work of this paper provides a good example for diversifying physicochemical properties and application scenarios of MNCs by rational ligand engineering, which will facilitate future interest and new strategies to precisely engineer solution-based nanocluster materials.

Abstract
Crosslinked liquid crystal polymers (CLCPs) are a promising type of smart polymer material with excellent two‐way shape memory behavior under the stimulation of various external conditions. ...Among the various external stimuli, light with the advantages of instantaneity, high accuracy, remote controllability, pollution‐free, etc., has been widely used in the control of CLCPs. Traditional photoresponsive CLCP systems based on photoisomerization are limited by the penetration depth of ultraviolet light, the number of useful photochemical reactions, and long‐term stability. Recently, a strategy for designing photoresponsive CLCPs based on the photothermal effect has attracted scientific attention. Photothermal materials in the CLCP matrix can convert light into heat through plasma resonance or energy transition under the light irradiation of a certain wavelength, and locally heat the CLCP matrix to beyond the liquid crystal‐to‐isotropic phase transition temperature, thus achieving reversible macroscopic deformation. Combining photothermal materials and CLCPs can decrease the dependence on specific photosensitive groups such as azobenzene mesogens and endow photoresponsive CLCPs with design flexibility. Herein, the photothermal‐responsive CLCPs under the stimulations of different light wavelengths and their application fields are reviewed. In addition, the current challenges in the field of photothermal‐responsive CLCPs are summarized, and a brief outlook on future development is proposed.
•Highest lipid was accumulated when mixed VFAs were used.•The lipid produced from mixed VFAs was higher than that from the sole acetic acid.•Both propionic and butyric acids can improve the ...odd-numbered fatty acid content.•The highest odd-numbered FAs yield was achieved when the VFA ratio was 5:15:10.
The oleaginous yeast Cryptococcus curvatus ATCC 20509 can use 5–40g/L of acetic, propionic, or butyric acid as sole carbon source to produce lipids. High concentrations (30g/L) of mixed volatile fatty acids (VFAs) were used to cultivate C. curvatus to explore the effects of different ratios of mixed VFAs on lipid production and composition. When mixed VFAs (VFA ratio was 15:5:10) were used as carbon sources, the highest cell mass and lipid concentration were 8.68g/L and 4.93g/L, respectively, which were significantly higher than those when 30g/L of acetic acid was used as sole carbon source. The highest content and yield of odd-numbered fatty acids were 45.1% (VFA ratio was 0:15:15) and 1.62g/L (VFA ratio was 5:15:10), respectively. These results indicate that adjusting the composition ratios of mixed VFAs effectively improves microbial lipid synthesis and the yield of odd-numbered fatty acids.
