Two sites around Bach Long Vi Island (North Vietnam) and Tho Chu islands (South Vietnam) were selected to perform an economic valuation index analysis for the sustainability assessment of insular coastal ecosystems. The critical study methods are based on indicators and index selection and analyses following the well-documented Driver-Pressure-State-Impact-Response framework. Total ecosystem economic indices were proposed and calculated using three subindices, including the direct use value index (Idev) of a factor of 35.71 for Bach Long Vi Island and 9.52 for Tho Chu islands, the indirect use value index (Iidev) of 39.38 and 9.52, and the nonuse value index (Inuv) of 100 for both study sites. A total economic valuation index (Ieev) of island coastal ecosystems, consisting of coral reefs and rocky reefs at both sites, was calculated using Idev, Iidev, and Inuv. Ieev values at assigned scale between 0 and 100 points; values lower than 50 indicate ecosystems used unsustainably. Within this 100-point scale, the Ieev for the coastal ecosystems surrounding Bach Long Vi Island from 2014-detected parameters was calculated as 58.37, revealing an overall sustainable use. On the contrary, the value for the Tho Chu islands for the same period was 39.68, indicating that this latter site was unsustainably used. Developing and analyzing these indices can be applied to other coastal ecosystems, such as beaches, mangroves, corals, etc., both in Vietnam and in similar international contexts.

NE Vietnamese beaches possess economic and ecological value, particularly in the areas of international importance, such as the Ha Long Bay World Heritage Site and the Cat Ba Biosphere Reserve, and national significance, such as the National Park of Bai Tu Long Bay. Increasing socioeconomic development in this coastal zone has generated pressures on and use conflicts within coastal ecosystems, including coastal beaches. To support integrated coastal management of the area, identification and in-depth analysis of the environmental conflicts of nine typical tourist beaches were conducted. The conflicts were defined by naming beach users and then grouping them, such as the group of economic sectors and the group of environmentalists and nature conservationists. The first group of beach-use conflicts consists of the conflict of tourism and urbanization with sand mining in Cat Ba, Ha Long–Bai Tu Long, and Cam Pha–Mong Cai; the conflict of tourism and urbanization with marine and coastal aquaculture in Cat Ba, Ha Long–Bai Tu Long, and Cam Pha–Mong Cai, and the conflict of sand mining with marine and coastal aquaculture in Cat Ba and Ha Long–Bai Tu Long. The second group of conflicts between socioeconomic development and nature conservation involves the conflicts of all three economic sectors with conservation activities in the Bai Tu Long National Park and the Cat Ba Biosphere Reserve and the conflicts of tourism, urbanization, and marine and coastal aquaculture with nature conservation in the Ha Long Bay World Heritage Site. Conflict aspects were detailed with the nature of the conflict, parties involved, typological classification, and current trends. Analysis of detailed aspects shows that environmental conflicts are still severe and long-lasting, especially in coastal areas with international and national importance. This requires a resolution of integrated coastal management to be developed as soon as possible for the study area.

The total value of aquaculture production in Vietnam, equivalent to US$4.26 billion in 2015, contributed approximately 65 % of Vietnam total fisheries exports. Antibiotics use (ABU) was widely reported in Vietnam livestock and aquaculture industries for disease treatment or growth stimulation. The objective of this study was to describe the rationale and pattern of ABU in fish and shrimp farms. A total of 360 fish farms and 360 shrimp farms were selected from seven provinces, including Hai Phong, Nam Dinh and Vinh Phuc in the North; Dak Lak and Binh Dinh in the Central; Dong Nai and Dong Thap in the South for questionaire interview. The results showed that antibiotics were widely used in fish farms (64 %), but less common in shrimp farming (24 %). On fish farms, there were 11 antibiotic classes (23 different antibiotics) used for both treatment and prevention. The most common antibiotic classes are Phenicol (11 %), following by Tetracycline (10 %) and Sulfonamide (7%). In shrimp farms, there were six antibiotic classes (10 different antibiotics) used. The most commonly antibiotic classes were Tetracycline (21 %). The results of the survey showed that the two main purposes of ABU were treatment of sick animals and disease prevention. Treatment accounted for ABU in 83 % of shrimp farms and 88 % of fish farms. The odd of using antibiotics in intensive fish farms was 5.2 times (95%CI 3.2–8.5) higher than extensive fish farms. The odd for professionals consultation before using antibiotics in intensive fish farms was 3.4 times (95%CI 2.2–5.4) higher than in extensive farms while the odd was 4.2 times (95%CI 2.6–6.9) comparing intensive shrimp farms to extensive ones. These results can be used to support policy formulation to manage ABU and reduce antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in aquaculture production.
The Northeastern coastal zone of Vietnam possesses high biodiversity and rich ecosystems like coral reefs, seagrasses, beaches and mangroves. It also includes the Ha Long Bay Natural Heritage site ...(UNESCO 1994) and the Cat Ba Biosphere Reserve (MAB/UNESCO 2004) as well as hosts the Economic Development Triangle (Hai Phong−Ha Noi–Quang Ninh) established by the Government of Vietnam. As one of the coastal ecosystems, sandy beach ecosystems attracted more attention during recent decades because of their essential role for human welfare and in environmental protection. A few studies concentrated on sustainable management of sandy beach based on environmental and ecological protection and enhance the beach quality for recreational use. The DPSIR (Driving force Pressure State Impact Response) framework describes the logical interaction among systems and finds out the cause and consequence of social-economic development activities to the environment and resources. In this study, the DPSIR was applied on the sandy beaches in the Northeastern coast of Vietnam to reveal the main environmental problems on sandy beaches including the decline of the natural landscape around the beaches and the degradation of the environment. It also pointed out that tourism development in association with urbanization and sea reclamation is the main driving forces for environmental degradation of the sandy beaches. Therefore, local authorities of Hai Phong and Quang Ninh should take into account several main responses to policies on inter-province coordination and managerial measures with a wider scope, which integrate socio-economic and physical factors, proximity, accessibility, and neighborhood to manage healthy coastal ecosystems and sandy beaches in particular. An integrated coastal management program for the Northeastern coast of Vietnam needs to be developed and carried out to follow the laws of Vietnam as well as to meet local urgent requirements.
To evaluate the effectiveness of the progestin-primed ovarian stimulation (PPOS) protocol versus the gonadotropin-releasing hormone antagonist (GnRH-ant) protocol in ovarian stimulation.
In this ...retrospective cohort study, we included 804 patients who were treated between January 1st, 2022, and July 1st, 2023. Outcomes of ovarian stimulation were compared between the PPOS (n = 206) and GnRH-ant (n = 598). The primary outcome was the number of good cleavage embryos.
Baseline characteristics were comparable in both groups. In both unadjusted and adjusted analysis, the mean number of good cleavage embryos in PPOS (6.33) was non-inferior to GnRH-ant (6.44; unadjusted ratio of two means 1.02, 95%CI 0.92, 1.13). The trigger-day estradiol level in patients with PPOS was higher than in patients with GnRH-ant (4,420 vs 3,830 pg/ml, respectively) despite similar total follicle stimulating hormone dose and fewer days of ovarian stimulation. The number of oocytes, MII oocytes, cleavage and blastocyst embryos were comparable between the two protocols. After the first transfer of embryos, the clinical pregnancy rate and implantation rate were higher in the PPOS group, while the pregnancy rate and ongoing pregnancy were not significantly different. None of the PPOS patients had an unexpected LH surge, and serum LH levels decreased slightly during ovarian stimulation.
The PPOS protocol with dydrogesterone provided similar embryo outcomes to the GnRH-ant protocol, with notable distinctions in clinical pregnancy and implantation rate. The serum LH concentration during ovarian stimulation using PPOS was well-controlled.

Nowadays both parents and teachers in schools has been in charge of educating our kids and children from 2 to 6 ages in kindergarten in developing countries such as Viet Nam has been integrating into ...world and Western education method, and has been changing from traditional to modern education model. This papers use mainly qualitative analysis, synthesis and inductive methods and explanatory methods, combined with dialectical materialism methods. We propose suggestions for standardizing kid teachers, as well as lessons from Western education style and method. Teachers or kid instructors need to prepare well by lesson planning. This study also analyzes psychological issues in kid educating at kindergarten and at home for parent and teachers. For instance, we do not need to put heavy punishment, as a result from our work stress, on our children. Moreover, parents need to spend time for our children to understand and listen their needs and fulfill their emotions and emotional intelligence.
Widely used for their anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties, glucocorticoids are nonetheless responsible for the development of diabetes and lipodystrophy. Despite an increasing number ...of studies focused on the adipocyte glucocorticoid receptor (GR), its precise role in the molecular mechanisms of these complications has not been elucidated. In keeping with this goal, we generated a conditional adipocyte-specific murine model of GR invalidation (AdipoGR knockout KO mice). Interestingly, when administered a corticosterone treatment to mimic hypercorticism conditions, AdipoGR-KO mice exhibited an improved glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity. This was related to the adipose-specific activation of the insulin-signaling pathway, which contributed to fat mass expansion, as well as a shift toward an anti-inflammatory macrophage polarization in adipose tissue of AdipoGR-KO animals. Moreover, these mice were protected against ectopic lipid accumulation in the liver and displayed an improved lipid profile, contributing to their overall healthier phenotype. Altogether, our results indicate that adipocyte GR is a key factor of adipose tissue expansion and glucose and lipid metabolism control, which should be taken into account in the further design of adipocyte GR-selective modulators.
Gas-sensing performance of the electrochemical sensor utilized solid electrolyte of yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) and metal-oxide sensing-electrode (SE) depends on electrochemical catalytic ...reaction at interface of metal-oxide/YSZ and heterogeneous gas-phase reaction through SE oxide. In this work, the mixed potential sensors with a configuration of Pt/YSZ/(Pt-LaFeO3) sintered at the temperatures Ts=700, 800, 900, 1050, 1200 and 1300°C were investigated by exposing to various gases such as NO2, NO, CO, C3H8 and CH4 at the operating temperatures To=450, 500, 550, 600 and 650°C. All the sensors Pt/YSZ/(Pt-LaFeO3) exhibited good sensitive and selective characteristics to NO2 gas. Interesting characteristics on the gas sensing performances were obvious that the ΔV responses to NO2 gas obtained the minimum and maximum values when the sensors Pt/YSZ/(Pt-LaFeO3) sintered at the temperatures Ts=900 and 1200°C, respectively. Typically, the sensors exhibited decrease of NO2 selectivity with increasing the sintering temperature Ts. The t90 response-recovery times of the sensors were relatively complicated with the sintering temperature. Effect of the sintering temperatures of the Pt/YSZ/LaFeO3 sensors on the gas sensing performances was also discussed in detail.
We synthesized ZnO architectures, including nanorods, porous plates, and flower-like architectures by using different types of zinc salts and surfactants in a hydrothermal process. Photoluminescence ...spectra demonstrate green emission enhancement owing to both oxygen vacancies and acceptor centers by the passive occupation of sodium ions on the ZnO surfaces. Gas-sensing devices are reported with an enhanced sensing response of nanorods of up to 13 times to NO 2 gas, with respect to ZnO belt-like architectures. In addition, we also measured a high performance in photocatalytic degradation of dye molecules. The correlation between structural defects and gas-sensing properties as well as photocatalytic activity was also discussed.
Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is highly sensitive and is thus the standard method for diagnosing pertussis. Real-time PCR is widely used because of its accuracy and the simplicity of the ...simultaneous cycle threshold (Ct) value, which represents the copy numbers of the target gene. Little is known of the association of Ct value with pertussis severity in neonates and infants.
This study determined Ct values in neonates and infants diagnosed with pertussis by real-time PCR using nasopharyngeal samples at Vietnam National Children's Hospital in Hanoi in 2017 and 2019. The association of disease severity and clinical parameters were analyzed using univariate and multivariate analyses.
We evaluated 108 patients with pertussis median age: 63 days, interquartile range (IQR): 41-92 days. Only 6/108 (6%) received at least 1 dose of a pertussis-containing vaccine. Among them, 24 (22.2%) had severe disease requiring care in a pediatric intensive care unit, 16 (13.8%) required mechanical ventilation, and 3 (2.6%) died. The median Ct value was lower in patients with severe disease (19.0, IQR: 16.5-22.0, n = 24) than in those without severe disease (25.5, IQR: 20.0-30.0, n = 84) (P = 0.002). Logistic regression analyses demonstrated that PCR Ct value odds ratio (OR): 1.783, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.013-3.138, P = 0.045, age (OR: 3.118, 95% CI: 1.643-5.920, P = 0.001), and white blood cell counts (OR: 0.446, 95% CI: 0.261-0.763, P = 0.003) remained significantly associated with severe disease.
Real-time PCR Ct values for pertussis might be useful as a predictor of severe disease in neonates and infants.
