Purpose - This paper aims to deal with the dynamic aspect of outsourcing - in the world of business, change is the only constant, nothing is permanent, which also holds true for the relationships in ...outsourcing. Thus, we should think about the consequences of the termination of such a relationship, which could be effected by both sides. This research is aimed at finding an answer to the question of what outsourcing can bring in the long run.Design methodology approach - The research for this paper is based on the collection and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data.Findings - The research results show that companies are ill-prepared for the time when the cooperation between the outsourcing and insourcing company ends.Originality value - The initial research has proved that outsourcing can bring about increased short-term, especially financial, gains. But at the same time, the cause of poor quality and difficulties can also be concealed, and the reputation and success of the company can be ruined. Problems may be revealed later and can exceed the short-term benefits of outsourcing.

In developed countries the number of SMEs vastly exceeds the number of MNCs. An important share of SMEs are somehow linked to MNCs – but the impression prevails, that SMEs are in a subordinate ...position and certainly do not have a global strategy. We argue, however, that there should be partnership relations between MNCs and SMEs. The share of importance is conditioned by the degree, how well SMEs understand the MNCs global policy and how they support it with their activity. Through that MNCs become a part of SMEs’ global strategy, which consequently becomes their strategy as well. The paper includes a number of SMEs’ considerations and actions to be included in the MNCs’ global strategy – as well as some propositions upon public support needed for this purpose.

Outsourcing can be an extremely important strategic decision - for both insourcing and outsourcing companies. It is of utmost importance for any organisation to thoroughly study and analyse possible ...outcomes, risks and opportunities that outsourcing is likely to bring. Management should not only focus on short-term benefits, but should concentrate on long-term consequences of outsourcing, especially in the light of eficiency and effectiveness of business operations. Our research confirms short-term, especially financial, benefits of outsourcing. On the other hand, outsourcing can conceal reasons for compoany's poor business operations, bad reputation or failure to succeed. These are likely to appear later and can nullifiy the short term benefits of outsourcing. The research findings represent a suitable starting point for a critical study of benefits of temporally limited outsourcing, both from the point of view of outsourcers and insourcers. The analysis of a sample of Slovenian companies shows that some important issues related to outsourcing should be thoroughly studied before an outsourcing agreement has been signed in order to limit the consequences of unexpected termination outsourcing relationships.
