The Experiment Control System (ECS) of the LHCb Silicon Tracker sub-detectors is built on the integrated LHCb ECS framework. Although all LHCb sub-detectors use the same framework and follow the same ...guidelines, the Silicon Tracker control system uses some interesting additional features for operation and monitoring. The main details are described in this document. Since its design, the Silicon Tracker control system has been continuously evolving in a quite disorganized way. Some major maintenance activities are required in order to keep improving it. A description of those activities can also be found here.
The aim of the study was to assess the expediency of prescription and efficiency of bismuth tri-potassium di-citrate in different therapeutic schemes for the management of irritable bowel syndrome ...(IBS) dominated by diarrhea. The open prospective study of de-nol efficacy and safety included 30 patients with this disorder allocated to 2 groups. Patients of the main group (n=20) were given 120 mg of de-nol thrice daily in combination with meteospasmyl (a spasmolytic and antifoaming agent). Control patients (n=10) received aluminium phosphate with meteospasmyl (1 capsule thrice daily). Duration of the treatment was 3 weeks. Therapeutic efficiency was assessed from the dynamics of abdominal pain syndrome, stool frequency, properties of faeces, results of their microscopic and microbiological studies, lactulose breath hydrogen test, rectoromanoscopy with rectal mucosal biopsy, and hepatic biochemical test. Before the study, all patients had abdominal pain, diarrhea, meteorism, altered composition of fecal bacteria, their excessive growth in the intestines, and morphological signs of chronic inflammation. Bacterial activity was recorded in 80 and 40% of the patients of the respective groups. By the end of therapy, abdominal pain was eliminated in 90 and 60%, meteorism was absent in 80 and 40%, diarrhea in 75 and 50%, excessive bacterial growth in small intestine in 75 and 30%, changes of fecal microflora persisted in 20 and 70%, histological signs of active mucosal inflammation remained in 40 and 85.7% of the patients of the main and control groups respectively. It is concluded that all patients with irritable bowel syndrome and diarrhea show altered composition of intestinal microflora, morphological signs of moderate chronic inflammation of intestinal mucosa. Most of them have apparent bacterial activity. Treatment with de-nol and spasmolytics for 3 weeks effectively eliminated clinical manifestations of the disease, restored normal composition of intestinal microflora, normalized faeces properties, and resolved active inflammation.

The LHCb Silicon Tracker is a silicon micro-strip detector covering a sensitive area of 12
m
2 with a total of 272k readout channels. The installation of the detector is complete and commissioning is ...making excellent progress. The detector has recorded first beam-induced events during LHC synchronization tests in August 2008 and in June 2009. These events have allowed the performance to be studied, and adjustments to the operational parameters to be made. In this contribution, we will draw first lessons from the in situ commissioning of the Silicon Tracker, and present results from the reconstruction of data collected during the LHC synchronization tests.
Using data collected with the LHCb detector in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, the hadronic decay Bs -> J/psi f0(980) is observed. This CP eigenstate mode could be used ...to measure mixing-induced CP violation in the B_s system. Using a fit to the

The LHCb experiment is designed to perform high-precision measurements of CP violation and rare decays of B hadrons. The construction and installation of the Silicon Tracker (ST) was completed by ...early summer 2008. The Silicon Tracker covers a sensitive area of about 12m2 using silicon micro-strip technology and must withstand a radiation dose of 5×10131MeVn/cm2 equivalent after 10 years of operation. In these proceedings the preparation of the detectors for the first LHC beams is reported. Selected results from the detector commissioning in LHCb are shown, including the first beam-related events accumulated during the LHC injection and synchronization tests in September 2008. Lessons are drawn from the experience gathered during the installation and commissioning.
We give here a short review of the LHCb Silicon Tracker, the main points of the module production and quality control, followed by the commissioning of the detector. Problems that were found during ...production or commissioning are described and the first performance assessment of the installed detector with “beam data” is given.
