Using the Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) tecnique applied to light and electron microscopy, was observed that the lymph vascular wall shows very few and inconstant AChE-positive fibers. The cholinergic ...fibers run prevalently longitudinal in the perivascular connective tissue, only brief segments show a loose network. The results are discussed and compared with blood vessels innervation.
The adrenergic innervation of the lymph vascular wall was studied by means of the Falck fluorescence histochemical tecnique and electron microscopy with Tranzer and Richards' histochemical tecnique. ...The lymph vessels wall, compared with that of blood vessels, shows very few adrenergic nerve fibers located in the adventitia outside the smooth muscle cells. The possible role of the nervous system in the motor control of the lymph vessels is discussed.
The frequency of 17 HLA antigens of loci A and B has been studied by microlymphocytoxicity test in 114 subjects of islet S. Pietro, very close (a few miles) to South-west of Sardinia, but genetically ...very different from it, deriving the population from a region (Liguria) of continental Northern Italy. The data have been compared with those of a village of Southern Sardinia and with those of a population living in Liguria (continental Italy). The results confirm the striking genetical difference between people of the two islands (S. Pietro and Sardinia) and the close similarity between S. Pietro and Liguria from the genetical point of view.
The results of a multicentre, double-blind trial are reported, where the effectiveness and safety of indoprofen (IP) were compared with indomethacin (IM) and placebo (PL), in patients with rheumatoid ...arthritis. After an initial "wash-out" period (3 days), each patient was given each of the three treatments for one week, in randomized sequence. The total dose of indoprofen (tablets) was 800 mg/die and that of indomethacin (capsules) 200 mg/die, in 4 daily doses after the main meals. The evaluation of effectiveness on a cumulative group of 102 cases from 18 centres showed statistically significant differences in favour of both active drugs compared to placebo, based on a series of objectives and subjective criteria. There was no significant difference between IP and IM, but on factorial analysis of correspondences, IP showed a greater difference from placebo. The patient's judgments also suggested that IP (800 mg/die) was slightly more effective than IM (100 mg/die). Adverse reactions were observed in 8.9% of the patients on IM treatment, 3.9% on IP and in 39% on PL. Laboratory variables showed no significant changes in the course of treatment.

A series of patients with acute renal failure (ARF) and acute abdomen collected by the St. John the Baptist Hospital's Nephrology and Dialysis Division over the period 1970-75 is examined. A high ...rate of mortality was noted, due to causes that were mostly independent of ARF Death was often related to failure to resolve acute abdomen. The progression of ARF appeared to be related to that of the abdominal affection with prompt resolution of the latter. These findings suggest that constriction of the afferent arteriole may offer a partial, functional basis for ARF with the corollary that it has a good chance of being reversed, even after protracted periods of anuria. Renal complications associated with disseminated or localised intravascular coagulation appear to be rare. Treatment was best directed to early and frequent dialysis, with surgical resolution whenever indicated, irrespective of the presence of ARF.
The analysis of soilless cultivation in Sardinia showed that presently 75 farms, with 32 ha of greenhouses, use this cultivation system. 85% of them are located in the province of Cagliari, in the ...South of the Region. The most cultivated product is fresh market tomato on inert substrate (more than 85% Posidonia oceanica fibre) in an open cycle, but NFT and NGS techniques are also applied to small surfaces. At present, after a drop due to the establishment of alternative systems (solarization and grafting) and to new commercial needs, the surface area of soilless cultivation is stationary
La diffusione delle colture senza suolo in Sardegna a scopi produttivi e' iniziata negli anni ottanta con la produzione di pomodoro da mensa, che e' ancora oggi la specie piu' coltivata. Si e' avuto poi un picco di diffusione nei primi anni novanta, seguito da un calo a causa dell'affermarsi di altre tecniche alternative (solarizzazione e innesto) e delle mutate esigenze commerciali. Attualmente si contano 75 aziende che praticano questa tecnica di coltivazione in circa 32 ha di superficie coperta. La tecnica piu' diffusa e' quella di coltivazione su substrato inerte in sacco a ciclo aperto su fibra di Posidonia oceanica
