Abstract Purpose To evaluate the DSM-5 diagnosis of Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) in children and adolescents with poor eating not associated with body image concerns. Methods A ...retrospective case-control study of 8–18-year-olds, using a diagnostic algorithm, compared all cases with ARFID presenting to seven adolescent-medicine eating disorder programs in 2010 to a randomly selected sample with anorexia nervosa (AN) and bulimia nervosa (BN). Demographic and clinical information were recorded. Results Of 712 individuals studied, 98 (13.8%) met ARFID criteria. Patients with ARFID were younger than those with AN (n = 98) or BN (n = 66), (12.9 vs. 15.6 vs. 16.5 years), had longer durations of illness (33.3 vs. 14.5 vs. 23.5 months), were more likely to be male (29% vs. 15% vs. 6%), and had a percent median body weight intermediate between those with AN or BN (86.5 vs. 81.0 and 107.5). Patients with ARFID included those with selective (picky) eating since early childhood (28.7%); generalized anxiety (21.4%); gastrointestinal symptoms (19.4%); a history of vomiting/choking (13.2%); and food allergies (4.1%). Patients with ARFID were more likely to have a comorbid medical condition (55% vs. 10% vs. 11%) or anxiety disorder (58% vs. 35% vs. 33%) and were less likely to have a mood disorder (19% vs. 31% vs. 58%). Conclusions Patients with ARFID were demographically and clinically distinct from those with AN or BN. They were significantly underweight with a longer duration of illness and had a greater likelihood of comorbid medical and/or psychiatric symptoms.
Entrepreneurship is a central path to job creation, economic growth, and prosperity. In the earliest stages of start-up business creation, the matching of entrepreneurial ventures to investors is ...critically important. The entrepreneur's business proposition and previous experience are regarded as the main criteria for investment decisions. Our research, however, documents other critical criteria that investors use to make these decisions: the gender and physical attractiveness of the entrepreneurs themselves. Across a field setting (three entrepreneurial pitch competitions in the United States) and two experiments, we identify a profound and consistent gender gap in entrepreneur persuasiveness. Investors prefer pitches presented by male entrepreneurs compared with pitches made by female entrepreneurs, even when the content of the pitch is the same. This effect is moderated by male physical attractiveness: attractive males were particularly persuasive, whereas physical attractiveness did not matter among female entrepreneurs.
Introduction
Blood flow restriction (BFR) exercise has emerged as a method of increasing muscle size and strength with low intensity resistance training. While the cuff pressures used during BFR are ...typically a percentage of resting arterial occlusion pressure (AOP), the impact these cuff pressures have on blood flow during lower body exercise is unknown.
Purpose
To determine how various cuff pressures impact blood flow and tissue perfusion during exercise.
Methods
Eleven healthy male participants completed four sets of knee extension (30 reps per set at 30% max torque) with 0%, 60%, 80%, and 100% of arterial occlusion pressure (AOP) was applied to the proximal portion of the thigh. Femoral artery blood flow, tissue oxygenation, and central hemodynamics were continuously recorded before, during, and after exercise. Electromyography (EMG) amplitude was recorded from the vastus lateralis during exercise.
Results
Blood flow increased during exercise compared to rest across all cuff pressures (
p
< 0.001), however compared to 0%, the absolute blood flow was reduced by 34 ± 17%, 45 ± 22%, and 72 ± 19% for 60, 80, and 100% AOP, respectively. Furthermore, each cuff pressure resulted in similar relative changes in blood flow before, during, and after exercise. During exercise, tissue saturation index (TSI) decreased as cuff pressure increased (
p
≤ 0.005) with the exception of 80 to 100% AOP. Deoxyhemoglobin increased (
p
≤ 0.001) with cuff pressure.
Conclusion
Our data indicate that while BFR knee extension elicits an absolute hyperemic response at cuff pressures up to 100% resting AOP, the relative reductions in blood flow are consistent across rest, exercise and recovery.
Aim
Both an acute bout of resistance exercise (RE) and caffeine consumption can significantly alter hemodynamics, autonomic modulation, and arterial stiffness, which may correlate with adverse ...cardiovascular events. However, effects of an acute bout of RE and caffeine are unclear in resistance-trained women.
Purpose
The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of an acute bout of RE with repetitions to failure on squat and bench press, with or without caffeine, on performance, resting and recovery measures of hemodynamics, autonomic modulation, as well as arterial stiffness in resistance-trained women.
Methods
Eleven women participated in a double-blind, placebo controlled cross-over design in which they consumed caffeine (4 mg/kg) or placebo at least 72 h apart. Sixty minutes following ingestion, participants performed two sets of 10 repetitions followed by a third set to failure on squat and bench press. Hemodynamics, autonomic modulation, and arterial stiffness were measured at rest, 60 min post-ingestion, and three minutes and 10 min following RE.
Results
Data demonstrated caffeine has no additive effects on performance, hemodynamics, autonomic modulation, or arterial stiffness (p > 0.05) before or following an acute bout of RE in resistance-trained women compared to a placebo
.
Conclusions
Resistance-trained women may not observe any alteration to RE performance on the squat and bench press in terms of repetitions to failure following caffeine ingestion. In addition, the data from the present study suggests that there may also not be any further negative effects on the cardiovasculature if caffeine is consumed prior to the RE bout.
Cannabis use, be it either cannabidiol (CBD) use and/or delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) use, shows promise to enhance exercise recovery. The present study aimed to determine if individuals are ...using CBD and/or THC as a means of recovery from aerobic and/or resistance exercise, as well as additional modalities that might be used to aid in recovery.
Following consent, 111 participants (Mean ± SD: Age: 31 ± 13 years) completed an anonymous survey. All participants were regularly using cannabis (CBD and/or THC) as well as were currently exercising. Questions pertained to level of cannabis use, methods used for consumption of cannabis, exercise habits, exercise recovery strategies, and demographics.
Eighty-five percent of participants reported participating in aerobic training. In addition, 85% of participants also reported regular participation in resistance exercise. Seventy-two percent of participants participated in both aerobic and resistance exercise. Ninety-three percent of participants felt that CBD use assisted them with recovery from exercise, while 87% of participants felt the same regarding THC use.
Individuals who habitually use cannabis, CBD or THC, and regularly engage in exercise do feel that cannabis assists them with exercise recovery. More data are necessary to understand the role of cannabis in exercise recovery as well as perceived ergogenic benefits of cannabis by individuals who both regularly participate in exercise and habitually use cannabis.
The effects of alpha radiation on cementitious systems used for nuclear waste encapsulation, and the subsequent physico-chemical properties, have been subject to limited investigation comparative to ...the effects of gamma and neutron irradiations. This paper outlines an assessment of the impact of PuO2 incorporation on the bulk characteristics of BFS and PFA blended Portland cements, with specific focus on the microstructure, phase assemblage and the radiolysis of pore water. Cellulose was also added to the cements to investigate the effects of organics on these systems. Characterisation of the bulk phase assemblage and microstructure were completed using optical and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), x-ray diffraction (XRD), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Gas evolution was measured to determine the radiolytic breakdown of pore solution. In all samples the PuO2 appeared well encapsulated, with good physical contact to the cement grout and no large scale defects observed. Pu-containing hydrates were not observed, but PuO2 containing BFS based systems showed variations in the ratio of sulfate-containing phases, with increased ettringite observed. Gas evolution results were consistent with expectations based on likely radiation deposition, and increased G(H2) values were observed for cellulose containing samples. The findings of this study suggest the investigated cements are suitable encapsulants matrices for wastes containing PuO2.

Iodine-129 poses a significant challenge in the drive towards lowering radionuclide emissions from used nuclear fuel recycling operations. Various techniques are employed for capture of gaseous ...iodine species, but it is also present, mainly as iodide anions, in problematic residual aqueous wastestreams, which have stimulated research interest in technologies for adsorption and retention of the radioiodine. This removal effort requires specialised adsorbents, which use soft metals to create selectivity in the challenging chemical conditions. A review of the literature, at laboratory scale, reveals a number of organic, inorganic and hybrid adsorbent matrices have been investigated for this purpose. They are functionalised principally by Ag metal, but also Bi, Cu and Pb, using numerous synthetic strategies. The iodide capacity of the adsorbents varies from 13 to 430 mg g
−1
, with ion-exchange resins and titanates displaying the highest maximum uptakes. Kinetics of adsorption are often slow, requiring several days to reach equilibrium, although some ligated metal ion and metal nanoparticle systems can equilibrate in < 1 h. Ag-loaded materials generally exhibit superior selectivity for iodide verses other common anions, but more consideration is required of how these materials would function successfully in industrial operation; specifically their performance in dynamic column experiments and stability of the bound radioiodine in the conversion to final wasteform and subsequent geological storage.

Implementation fidelity relates to the degree of adherence to implementation protocols and content and helps to guide replication of evidence-based programs. In settings-based research, notions of ...fidelity have been applied more often to delivery of education content rather than whole of setting change. The aims of this paper were firstly, to analyse how contextual factors influenced implementation of a whole school program on respectful relationships education, and secondly given the findings, discuss whether a more flexible approach to implementation fidelity may have yielded increased school engagement.
The project was conducted in 19 secondary schools in Victoria in 2015. This paper reports on focus groups and interviews which were conducted with 81 school staff and 28 staff from the lead agency, community agency partners, and departmental staff to understand the contextual factors influencing implementation.
The program followed a traditional implementation fidelity approach of considering core elements and some minor scope for adaption which engaged some regions and schools but not others.
An alternative notion of implementation fidelity, "fidelity to function," may have permitted increased flexibility to tailor the intervention components to suit different school and community contexts and potentially, increasing both the reach and impact of the program. SO WHAT?: Understanding how to apply notions of fidelity to guide whole of setting change are important considerations if programs are to be replicated to have wider reach and greater impact and effectiveness.
