Visuospatial neglect is a disorder that can often result from stroke and is characterized by an inability to attend to contralesional stimuli. Two common subtypes include allocentric ...(object-centered) neglect and egocentric (viewer-centered) neglect. In allocentric neglect, spatial inattention is localized to the contralesional side of an object regardless of its relative position to the observer. In egocentric neglect, spatial inattention is localized to the contralesional side of the individual's midline. The neuroanatomical correlates of each subtype are unknown. However, recent work has suggested that damage to temporal, inferior parietal, and occipital areas may result in allocentric neglect and that damage to frontoparietal areas may result in egocentric neglect. We used voxel-based lesion-symptom mapping (VLSM) to compare lesion location to behavioral performance on the conventional six subtests of the Behavioral Inattention Test (BIT) in 62 subjects with acute right hemisphere ischemic stroke. Results identified an anatomical dissociation in lesion location between subjects with neglect based on poor performance on allocentric tests (line bisection, copying, and drawing tasks) and on egocentric tests (star, letter, and line cancellation). VLSM analyses revealed that poor performance on the allocentric tests was associated with lesions to the superior and inferior parietal cortices, and the superior and middle temporal gyri. In contrast, poor performance on the egocentric tests was associated with lesions in the precentral gyrus, middle frontal gyrus, insula, and putamen. Interestingly, the letter cancellation test and average performance on egocentric tests were associated with frontal and parietal lesions. Some of these parietal lesion locations overlapped with lesion locations associated with allocentric neglect. These findings are consistent with suggestions that damage to temporal and parietal areas is more associated with allocentric neglect and damage to frontal lobe areas is more associated with egocentric neglect.

Abstract This paper reports world averages of measurements of b-hadron, c-hadron, and $$\tau $$ τ -lepton properties obtained by the Heavy Flavour Averaging Group using results available through ...September 2018. In rare cases, significant results obtained several months later are also used. For the averaging, common input parameters used in the various analyses are adjusted (rescaled) to common values, and known correlations are taken into account. The averages include branching fractions, lifetimes, neutral meson mixing parameters, $$C\!P$$ C P violation parameters, parameters of semileptonic decays, and Cabibbo–Kobayashi–Maskawa matrix elements.
Intercropping is a farming practice involving two or more crop species, or genotypes, growing together and coexisting for a time. On the fringes of modern intensive agriculture, intercropping is ...important in many subsistence or low‐input/resource‐limited agricultural systems. By allowing genuine yield gains without increased inputs, or greater stability of yield with decreased inputs, intercropping could be one route to delivering ‘sustainable intensification’. We discuss how recent knowledge from agronomy, plant physiology and ecology can be combined with the aim of improving intercropping systems. Recent advances in agronomy and plant physiology include better understanding of the mechanisms of interactions between crop genotypes and species – for example, enhanced resource availability through niche complementarity. Ecological advances include better understanding of the context‐dependency of interactions, the mechanisms behind disease and pest avoidance, the links between above‐ and below‐ground systems, and the role of microtopographic variation in coexistence. This improved understanding can guide approaches for improving intercropping systems, including breeding crops for intercropping. Although such advances can help to improve intercropping systems, we suggest that other topics also need addressing. These include better assessment of the wider benefits of intercropping in terms of multiple ecosystem services, collaboration with agricultural engineering, and more effective interdisciplinary research.
Various studies have examined the relationship between preoperative mental health diagnoses (MHDs) and postoperative outcomes in orthopedic shoulder patients. However, few investigations delve into ...the relationship between a preoperative MHD and postoperative opioid pain control regimens in patients who have undergone rotator cuff repair (RCR), total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA), and reverse TSA (rTSA). We hypothesize that orthopedic shoulder patients with a preoperative MHD will be prescribed more opioids (ie, request more refills) postoperatively than those without a MHD.
An institutional review board-approved retrospective chart review was performed on 438 patients, 18 years or older, who underwent RCR, TSA, or rTSA. Patients were divided into two groups: those diagnosed with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and/or schizophrenia (n = 193), and those with no previous MHD (n = 245). Statistical outcomes were analyzed with the independent t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, one-way Analysis of Variance, and Kruskal-Wallis test.
Univariate analysis demonstrated significant differences between the MHD group and non-MHD group in average 90-day postoperative opioid scripts (2.10 vs. 1.55, respectively, P < .001) and median 90-day postoperative morphine milligram equivalents (MMEs) prescribed (225 MME vs. 185.25 MME, respectively, P < .001). Among patients who were opioid naive 90 days preoperatively, significant differences were found in MMEs prescribed between the MHD and non-MHD group (225 MME vs. 150 MME, respectively, P < .001). Further analysis of opioid naive patients with specifically depression compared to patients with an alternate or no MHD diagnosis yielded significant differences in scripts (1.78 vs. 1.33, respectively, P = .031) and MMEs prescribed (225 MME vs. 150 MME, respectively, P < .001).
This study found that RCR, TSA, or rTSA patients with a preoperative MHD were prescribed significantly more postoperative MMEs and more opioid scripts (ie, requested more refills) than those without MHD. This is despite preoperative education on postoperative pain expectations and limiting opioid use. Our findings support our hypothesis and emphasize the clinical importance of recognizing mental health disease while navigating postoperative pain control expectations. Given the rising prevalence of mental health disorders nationwide, considering the effect of these comorbidities on postoperative pain in RCR, TSA, and rTSA patients will be essential to enhance preoperative and postoperative counseling and management by orthopedic surgeons. We further recommend a multidisciplinary approach to help manage pain in these patients.

Background
Potomac horse fever (PHF) is a potentially fatal enterocolitis of horses caused by Neorickettsia risticii. The disease was originally recognised almost 40 years ago in the state of ...Maryland in the US. It is now known to occur in many areas of North America, as well as having been described in South America and Europe. Monocomponent PHF vaccines are available, but clinical protection with vaccination has been reported to be inconsistent.
Objectives
This study was designed to assess the immunogenicity of a commercially available Potomac Horse Fever (PHF) vaccine when administered as either a monovalent PHF vaccine simultaneously co‐administered with a separate monovalent Rabies vaccine or as a multivalent PHF/Rabies vaccine in horses.
Study design
Randomised parallel group trial.
Methods
Ninety‐one client or University owned horses participated in this open‐label randomised study, with 45 horses receiving the monovalent vaccines at separate sites and 46 receiving the multivalent vaccine at a single site. Serum PHF IFA titres were determined twice prior to vaccination and at 1, 2 and 3 months after vaccination.
Results
Both vaccination protocols exhibited poor immunogenicity, with only one‐third of all the animals demonstrating seroconversion, defined as an increase in titre of greater than 400 over baseline, at any time point after vaccination. The monovalent PHF vaccine exhibited significantly greater immunogenicity in terms of the number of horses exhibiting seroconversion, as compared to the multivalent vaccine, at one (20 vs. 11, P = 0.03) and two (18 vs. 9, p = 0.02) months post vaccination. The monovalent PHF vaccine also exhibited significantly greater immunogenicity in terms of the median (interquartile range) IFA titres, as compared to the multivalent vaccine, at one (800 200–1600 vs. 400 200–800, P = 0.009) and 2 months (400 200–1600 vs. 400 100–800, P = 0.02) post vaccination. There was no significant difference between groups at 3 months in either seroconversion rate or median IFA titers.
Main limitations
This study did not assess the actual protective effects of PHF vaccination but rather used the serologic response to vaccination as a surrogate biomarker of immunity.
Conclusions
The multivalent PHF/Rabies vaccine exhibited lower immunogenicity as compared to the monovalent PHF vaccine co‐administered with a separate Rabies vaccine.
