Biobased packaging pouches made of chitosan (CS), gelatin (GEL) and gallic acid (GA) were developed to be used as active packaging (antioxidant) for olive oil. Various formulations were characterized ...in terms of their physico-chemical (color, transparency, thickness, water content and swelling) and barrier (oxygen, carbon dioxide, and water vapor) properties and total phenolic content. The developed pouches were used to store olive oil for 6 weeks. The oil was characterized in terms of its color, volatile compound profile and organoleptic properties. Considerable amounts of total phenols were measured in all film formulations, with significantly higher amounts in the films containing GA. No significant color changes were observed in the packed oil. A total of 31 volatile compounds from 8 different chemical groups were identified in the oils tested. In the samples with gallic acid as an antioxidant, the content of compounds identified as volatiles from the degenerative oxidation process was lower compared to the samples packed in glass containers (control), regardless of the storage period. Triangle test showed that organoleptic properties have a greater influence on visual appearance than odour.

The Croatian Medical Students’ International Committee (CroMSIC) is an association dedicated to improving education and collaboration across the Republic of Croatia. The organization’s activities are ...carried out through student volunteering. It implements a range of projects focused on prevention and education, including initiatives in public health, human rights, sexual and reproductive health, as well as medical education. Additionally, we conduct student exchange programs that enable students to travel and participate in professional and scientific exchanges worldwide, contributing to the recognition of Croatia and its university on a global scale. CroMSIC, as an association, provides a unique international experience and an opportunity for personal and professional development. Through various projects and initiatives, CroMSIC demonstrates its humanitarian side by assisting children and families in need, while some projects facilitate healthcare in often neglected rural areas. Their dedicated officials also work to raise awareness about various healthcare aspects, including specific topics like cancer prevention and genetics, in collaboration with local communities and experts. CroMSIC drives positive change through cooperation with schools, children’s homes, and local communities. Through its projects, the association aims to enhance the quality of medical education and raise awareness about key public health issues. Our past successes include educating thousands of students and engaging hundreds of student volunteers in projects. The aim of this article is to present the association CroMSIC as well as its goals – to contribute to better health and education in the Republic of Croatia, and to shape future generations of medical experts who will bring positive changes in society.
Međunarodna udruga studenata medicine Hrvatska – CroMSIC jest udruga studenata medicine posvećena poboljšanju obrazovanja i suradnje diljem Republike Hrvatske. Djelovanje udruge ostvaruje se kroz volontiranje studenata. Udruga provodi niz projekata usmjerenih na prevenciju i edukaciju, uključujući akcije s tematikom iz područja javnog zdravstva, ljudskih prava, spolnog i reproduktivnog zdravlja te medicinske edukacije. Također, provodi program studentskih razmjena kojim omogućavamo studentima putovanja te profesionalne i znanstvene razmjene diljem svijeta, što pridonosi prepoznavanju Republike Hrvatske, kao i hrvatskih sveučilišta na svjetskoj razini. CroMSIC pruža jedinstveno međunarodno iskustvo i priliku za osobni i profesionalni razvoj. Također kroz razne projekte i akcije, iskazujemo svoju humanitarnu stranu pomažući djeci i obiteljima u potrebi, dok naši projekti omogućavaju zdravstvenu skrb u ruralnim područjima koja su često zapostavljena. Naši predani dužnosnici bave se različitim aspektima zdravstva, uključujući specifične teme poput prevencije raka i genetike u suradnji s lokalnim zajednicama i stručnjacima. CroMSIC pokreće pozitivne promjene kroz suradnju sa školama, domovima za djecu i lokalnim zajednicama. Naši dosadašnji uspjesi uključuju obrazovanje tisuća učenika i sudjelovanje na stotine studenata volontera u projektima. Cilj je ovog članka prikazati udrugu CroMSIC i njezine ciljeve – pridonijeti boljem zdravlju i obrazovanju u Republici Hrvatskoj te oblikovati buduće generacije medicinskih stručnjaka koji će donositi pozitivne promjene u društvu.
