Small perturbative fields in a synchrotron influence both the spin and orbital motion of a stored beam. Their effect on the beam polarization consists of two contributions, a direct kick and an ...effect of the ring lattice due to orbit perturbation. Spin response function is an analytic technique to account for both contributions. We develop such a technique for the spin-transparent synchrotrons where the design spin motion is degenerate. Several perspective applications are illustrated or discussed. In particular, we consider the questions of the influence of lattice imperfections on the spin dynamics and spin manipulation during an experiment. The presented results are of a direct relevance to NICA (JINR), RHIC (BNL), EIC (BNL) and other existing and future colliders when they arranged with polarization control in the spin-transparent mode.
Implicit solvent models offer an attractive way to estimate the effects of a solvent environment on the properties of small or large solutes without the complications of explicit simulations. One ...common test of accuracy is to compute the free energy of transfer from gas to liquid for a variety of small molecules, since many of these values have been measured. Studies of the temperature dependence of these values (i.e. solvation enthalpies and entropies) can provide additional insights into the performance of implicit solvent models. Here, we show how to compute temperature derivatives of hydration free energies for the 3D-RISM integral equation approach. We have computed hydration free energies of 1123 small drug-like molecules (both neutral and charged). Temperature derivatives were also used to calculate hydration energies and entropies of 74 of these molecules (both neutral and charged) for which experimental data is available. While direct results have rather poor agreement with experiment, we have found that several previously proposed linear hydration free energy correction schemes give good agreement with experiment. These corrections also provide good agreement for hydration energies and entropies though simple extensions are required in some cases.
Experiments were performed at the CERN SPS with 120 GeV/c stored proton beams to assess the possibility of beam halo collimation assisted by bent crystals. A bent crystal was used to deflect ...horizontally by an angle of about 170 μrad the beam halo protons in channeling states directing them into a 60 cm long tungsten absorber. The halo loss rate due to nuclear inelastic interactions of protons in the aligned crystal was up to five times smaller than for its amorphous orientation. Channeled fractions, (75±4)% and (85±5)% for the two tested silicon crystals, were measured by intercepting the deflected beam with another collimator located between the crystals and the absorber. The pixel detector (MEDIPIX) installed in a Roman pot inside the beam pipe was used to obtain visual images of the deflected beam.
An open microstrip line (MSL) having sufficiently large dimensions of the screen is modeled by the screened line constructed by the projection method using Chebyshev polynomials. The expressions for ...the matrix coefficients of the infinite system of linear algebraic equations for the coefficients of the current density expansion on the surface of a strip conductor are presented. Limit expressions for the matrix coefficients are obtained for the screen dimensions going to infinity. The solution to the infinite system of equations is considered in the quasi-static approximation and the application boundaries of this solution are determined. The numerical results confirming the rapid convergence of current density expansions that is theoretically determined are presented. These results make it possible to optimally choose the screen dimensions for modeling an open line.
This paper presents the results of a study of the effect of pulsating subsonic gas flow treatment on the corrosion resistance of structural metal materials used in aircraft structural elements. The ...disadvantage of even the most modern methods of increasing the structural strength of metal materials is an insufficient increase in corrosion resistance. An urgent task is to develop methods for increasing the corrosion resistance of aircraft structural elements throughout their volume without additional alloying, which not only increases the cost of the product material, but also, often, makes it less producible, which can be used during the restoration of both aviation and airfield equipment. The article describes a method developed by the authors to increase corrosion resistance using pulsed subsonic gas flows. The data obtained as a result of the conducted research will allow more effective control of the corrosion condition of aircraft by non-destructive methods, as well as increase the accuracy of forecasting the technical condition.

In this study, we report the relationship between structure, self-assembly behavior and antimicrobial activity of multicationic gemini surfactants and their successful use as ...stabilizers of a new liposomal formulation for transdermal drug delivery. New surfactants containing natural moiety 1,4-diazabicyclo2.2.2octane with four charges and two hydrophobic chains (n-Dabco-s-Dabco-n, where s = 2, 6, 12 and n = 12, 14, 16, 18) were synthesized. A linear dependence of the CMC decrease, with the increase of the number of carbon atoms in alkyl groups (slope 0.23) was shown. The aggregation numbers of n-Dabco-2-Dabco-n are smaller than 30 and they decrease with increasing alkyl chain length. This is in compliance with the larger surface area per n-Dabco-2-Dabco-n molecule. New liposomal formulations loading Rhodamine B phosphatidylcholine (with mean size about 100 nm and increased zeta potential from −7 ± 2 mV to +55 ± 2 mV) have been successfully stabilized by n-Dabco-s-Dabco-n surfactants. These formulations were designed to improve the bioavailability and skin permeation of loaded compound. The antibacterial activity of Dabco-surfactants was shown to be strongly affected by their structure (alkyl chain length and number of charged nitrogen). 12-Dabco-2-Dabco-12 was the most active (MIC = 0.48, 0.98 and 15.6 µg/mL against S. aureus, B. cereus and E. coli, respectively) without hemolytic activity at 3.1 µg/mL concentration. PC/14-Dabco-2-Dabco-14-liposomes were shown to be the best formulation, with the highest antibacterial activity against Sa (MIC = 7.8 μg‧mL−1) and lowest cytotoxicity (IC50 > 125). The modification of liposomes by Dabco-surfactants stabilizes the membrane of the vesicles, preventing the release of rhodamine B and impairing the penetration of the dye across Strat-M® membrane. Cellular uptake of rhodamine B-loaded PC/12-Dabco-2-Dabco-12-liposomes was also reported. This is the first example of cationic mixed liposomes containing Dabco-surfactants of potential interest for transdermal drug delivery.
The extraction of the SPS beam of 270GeV/c protons assisted by a bent crystal was studied by simulation. Two methods for delivering the SPS beam onto a crystal were considered: transverse ...diffusion and orbit bump of the beam. It was shown that the main condition for high efficient beam extraction with a bent crystal, which is a small divergence of the incident beam, can be fulfilled. Extraction efficiency up to 99% can be reached for both methods of the beam delivering. The irradiation of the electrostatic septum wires during the beam extraction can be considerably reduced.

Analysis of the expression of genes encoding the major clinical markers of lung cancer in the hypothalamus of mice with depression-like behavior revealed increased expression of the

gene encoding neuron-specific enolase, a blood marker of lung cancer progression in humans. It was shown that the expression of this gene in the hypothalamus correlated with the expression of many carcinogenesis- and apoptosis-related genes. The discovered phenomenon may have a fundamental significance and requires further studies.
Strong reduction of multiple scattering for channeled particles has been observed in an experiment on the deflection of a 180 GeV/c π+-meson beam by bent silicon crystals. The RMS deflections due to ...multiple scattering for the channeled particles were about six times smaller than for non-channeled ones. It was shown that the approach suggested recently for the description of multiple scattering for channeled particles using the experimental data for random crystal orientations gives fair agreement with the experiment.
A study of crystal assisted collimation has been continued at the CERN SPS for different energies of stored beams using 120 GeV/c and 270 GeV/c protons and Pb ions with 270 GeV/c per charge. A bent ...silicon crystal used as a primary collimator deflected halo particles using channeling and directing them into the tungsten absorber. A strong correlation of the beam losses in the crystal and off-momentum halo intensity measured in the first high dispersion (HD) area downstream was observed. In channeling conditions, the beam loss rate induced by inelastic interactions of particles with nuclei is significantly reduced in comparison with the non-oriented crystal. A maximal reduction of beam losses in the crystal larger than 20 was observed with 270 GeV/c protons. The off-momentum halo intensity measured in the HD area was also strongly reduced in channeling conditions. The reduction coefficient was larger than 7 for the case of Pb ions. A strong loss reduction was also detected in regions of the SPS ring far from the collimation area. It was shown by simulations that the miscut angle between the crystal surface and its crystallographic planes doubled the beam losses in the aligned crystal.
