This article is dedicated to the memory of Croatian eminent folklorist, Maja Bošković-Stulli, who dedicated much of her research to Istrian narrative folklore. She was one of the leading folklorists ...of the second half of the 20th century and a contemporary of Slovenia’s Milko Matičetov, another exceptional folklorist and field researcher. Together, they are responsible for the collection of Istrian narrative folklore and studied the role which narratives had in the lives of Istrian people. The proximity of different ethnic groups in this territory led to the diversity and richness of narrative culture and folk storytelling up to this day. This article discusses some examples of narrative culture from Slovenian and Croatian Istria from the point of view of vital shifts and changes that can be traced through different historical periods until today.
Ovaj je članak posvećen uspomeni na istaknutu hrvatsku folkloristicu Maju Bošković-Stulli, koja je velik dio svojih istraživanja posvetila istarskom narativnom folkloru. Bila je jedna od vodećih folkloristica druge polovine dvadesetog stoljeća, a zajedno s još jednim istaknutim folkloristom i terenskim istraživačem iz Slovenije, Milkom Matičetovim, zabilježila je impozantan korpus istarskog narativnog folklora te istraživala ulogu pripovijedanja u životu ljudi u Istri. Blizina različitih etničkih skupina na ovom području utjecala je na raznolikost i bogatstvo narativne kulture i pučkog pripovijedanja do današnjih dana. U članku se raspravlja o nekim primjerima narativne kulture iz slovenske i hrvatske Istre iz perspektive ključnih pomaka i promjena koje se vide kroz povijest do danas.
This book (‘Type Index of Slovenian Folktales – Animal Tales and Fables’) is the first of the comprehensive body of systematization of Slovenian folktales along the lines of the latest, revised ...edition of the Types of International Folk Tales by Hans-Jörg Uther (2004). It includes Slovenian animal tales and fables that have been listed among the first 299 numbers of the international classification system. It contains archaic, internationally comparable material which was previously difficult to access and is now published for the first time in a comprehensive and systematic form. With the transfer of the latest scientific results to the Slovenian research sphere~additional studies and comments~and the application of the international classification system for the classification of material it greatly facilitates further development of the discipline while simultaneously including the Slovenian narrative tradition in a broader international context. Since each folktale type includes examples of folktales the book will also attract the attention of the general public.

Focusing on Slovenian mythology the book contains a review of Slovenian mythological, historical, and narrative material. Over 150 supernatural beings are presented, both lexically and according to ...the role that they have in Slovenian folklore. They are classified by type, characteristic, features, and by the message conveyed in their motifs and contents. The material has been analysed in the context of European and some non-European mythological concepts, and the author deals with theory and interpretations as well as the conclusions of domestic and foreign researchers. The book forms new starting points and a classification of supernatural beings within a frame of a number of sources, some of which have been published for the first time in this book.
Mobilisation practices of uprisings and direct actions have become a significant factor in studying demonstrations and social movements in the past few years. However, the process of studying these ...mobilisation practices is limited mostly to the influence of information technology and social networks as the free and unlimited practices, which significantly form uprisings and protests of the new autonomous movements around the world. In this article, I considered the analysis of graffiti and street art being those mobilisation practices whose mobilisation potential and meaning remain poorly investigated. The role of graffiti as a mobilisation tool was explored twofold: first, through the analysis of the mobilisation graffiti and street art of the Anti-capitalist Block (AKAP) during the Slovenian uprisings that took place in the winter of 2012-13 and, secondly, through the reconsideration of the theory of hegemony. My purpose was to place such mobilisation tool within the context of other mobilisation practices and in the field of non-hegemonism, alongside the information technology. The article is a part of a broader research of the mobilisation practices of the Anti-capitalist Block during the Slovenian uprisings.
Karel Štrekelj (1859–1912), a prominent Slovenian folklorist and philologist, published among other a scientific edition of Slovenian Folk Songs and was also the first to introduce the term ...»folklore« to Slovenian humanities. He focused his scientific attention on dialects, etymology, historical grammar, and history of literature but his greatest contribution was to the field of folklore studies and ethnology. While he published the collection of folk songs, the manuscripts of folk tales have remained unpublished. These tales had been sent to him by collectors from different parts of the Slovenian ethnic territory. Although Štrekelj did intend to publish them in a critical edition of Slovenian folktales and legends his untimely death prevented him from starting to organize this extensive material. He already created some basic criteria for such an arduous task, and intended to contact his Czech colleague Jiři Polívka in Prague for further instructions. In comparison with other major yet older collections of this type, for example those published by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, Aleksander Nikolaevič Affanasev, and Vuk Karadžić it may be said that Slovenian folktales from Štrekelj's legacy are unquestionably of great importance for the Slovenian nation though.
