We present a software framework for Belle II that reconstructs B mesons in many decay modes with minimal user intervention. It does so by reconstructing particles in user-supplied decay channels, and ...then in turn using these reconstructed particles in higher-level decays. This hierarchical reconstruction allows one to cover a relatively high fraction of all B decays by specifying a limited number of particle decays. Multivariate classification methods are used to achieve a high signal-to-background ratio in each individual channel. The entire reconstruction, including the application of pre-cuts and classifier trainings, is automated to a high degree and will allow users to retrain to account for analysis-specific signal-side selections.

) at the KEK laboratory in Japan, create huge amounts of data. Sophisticated algorithms for simulation, reconstruction, visualization, and analysis are required to fully exploit the potential of these data. We describe the core components of the Belle II software that provide the foundation for the development of complex algorithms and their efficient application on large data sets.
Abstract This article reports world averages of measurements of b-hadron, c-hadron, and $$\tau $$ τ -lepton properties obtained by the Heavy Flavor Averaging Group using results available through ...summer 2016. For the averaging, common input parameters used in the various analyses are adjusted (rescaled) to common values, and known correlations are taken into account. The averages include branching fractions, lifetimes, neutral meson mixing parameters, $$C\!P$$ C P violation parameters, parameters of semileptonic decays, and Cabbibo–Kobayashi–Maskawa matrix elements.
SuperKEKB, the next generation B factory, has been constructed in Japan as an upgrade of KEKB. This brand new e+ e- collider is expected to deliver a very large data set for the Belle II experiment, ...which will be 50 times larger than the previous Belle sample. Both the triggered physics event rate and the background event rate will be increased by at least 10 times than the previous ones, and will create a challenging data taking environment for the Belle II detector. The software system of the Belle II experiment is designed to execute this ambitious plan. A full detector simulation library, which is a part of the Belle II software system, is created based on Geant4 and has been tested thoroughly. Recently the library has been upgraded with Geant4 version 10.1. The library is behaving as expected and it is utilized actively in producing Monte Carlo data sets for various studies. In this paper, we will explain the structure of the simulation library and the various interfaces to other packages including geometry and beam background simulation.
The Belle II collaboration decided in 2016 to migrate its collaborative services and tools into the existing IT infrastructure at DESY. The goal was to reduce the maintenance effort for solutions ...operated by Belle II members as well as to deploy state-of-art technologies. In addition, some new services and tools were or will be introduced. Planning and migration work was carried out by small teams consisting of experts form Belle II and the involved IT divisions. The migration was successfully accomplished before the KEK computer centre replacement in August 2016.
Recent PC servers are equipped with multi-core CPUs and it is desired to utilize the full processing power of them for the data analysis in large scale HEP experiments. A software framework basf2 is ...being developed for the use in the Belle II experiment, a new generation B-factory experiment at KEK, and the parallel event processing to utilize the multi-core CPUs is in its design for the use in the massive data production. The details of the implementation of event parallel processing in the basf2 framework are discussed with the report of preliminary performance study in the realistic use on a 32 core PC server.

The experimental results on the ratios of branching fractions R(D)=B(Bover ¯→Dτ^{-}νover ¯_{τ})/B(Bover ¯→Dℓ^{-}νover ¯_{ℓ}) and R(D^{*})=B(Bover ¯→D^{*}τ^{-}νover ¯_{τ})/B(Bover ¯→D^{*}ℓ^{-}νover ...¯_{ℓ}), where ℓ denotes an electron or a muon, show a long-standing discrepancy with the standard model predictions, and might hint at a violation of lepton flavor universality. We report a new simultaneous measurement of R(D) and R(D^{*}), based on a data sample containing 772×10^{6} BBover ¯ events recorded at the ϒ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e^{+}e^{-} collider. In this analysis the tag-side B meson is reconstructed in a semileptonic decay mode and the signal-side τ is reconstructed in a purely leptonic decay. The measured values are R(D)=0.307±0.037±0.016 and R(D^{*})=0.283±0.018±0.014, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results are in agreement with the standard model predictions within 0.2, 1.1, and 0.8 standard deviations for R(D), R(D^{*}), and their combination, respectively. This work constitutes the most precise measurements of R(D) and R(D^{*}) performed to date as well as the first result for R(D) based on a semileptonic tagging method.
We present a measurement of R_{K^{*}}, the branching fraction ratio B(B→K^{*}μ^{+}μ^{-})/B(B→K^{*}e^{+}e^{-}), for both charged and neutral B mesons. The ratio for the charged case R_{K^{*+}} is the ...first measurement ever performed. In addition, we report absolute branching fractions for the individual modes in bins of the squared dilepton invariant mass q^{2}. The analysis is based on a data sample of 711 fb^{-1}, containing 772×10^{6} BBover ¯ events, recorded at the ϒ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^{+}e^{-} collider. The obtained results are consistent with standard model expectations.
