We present J-band near-infrared (NIR) imaging of the host galaxies of nine narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLS1). Based on high-frequency radio observations at 37 GHz, seven of them could host ...powerful jets that are most likely relativistic. Host galaxy morphology studies of NLS1 galaxies are scarce, but exceedingly important for understanding the seemingly heterogeneous nature of the NLS1 population as well as their evolution and place in the active galactic nuclei (AGN) scheme. Increasing the sample size is essential for achieving statistically significant results. We determine the morphological types of the host galaxies by performing photometric decomposition of NIR images using a 2D image decomposition algorithm GALFIT. We were able to sufficiently model five of the nine host galaxies. Based on the fitting parameters, mainly the Sérsic index, all five are disk-like galaxies. Sources with clearly distinguishable bulge components all have pseudo-bulges, and four out of five sources show a component resembling a bar. A surprisingly large fraction, three out of five, show signs of interaction or disturbed morphology. Our results suggest that spiral galaxies with pseudo-bulges are able to launch and maintain powerful jets. They also imply that interaction – mainly minor mergers – may have a role in initially triggering higher levels of nuclear activity in NLS1 galaxies. Furthermore, our results support the heterogeneous nature of the NLS1 class and indicate that this diversity is caused by different evolutionary stages, possibly due to mergers.
Aims. We have calculated variability Doppler boosting factors, Lorentz factors, and viewing angles for a large sample of sources by using total flux density observations at 22 and 37 GHz and VLBI ...data. Methods. We decomposed the flux curves into exponential flares and determined the variability brightness temperatures of the fastest flares. By assuming the same intrinsic brightness temperature for each source, we calculated the Doppler boosting factors for 87 sources. In addition we used new apparent jet speed data to calculate the Lorentz factors and viewing angles for 67 sources. Results. We find that all quasars in our sample are Doppler-boosted and that the Doppler boosting factors of BL Lacertae objects are lower than of quasars. The new Lorentz factors are about twice as high as in earlier studies, which is mainly due to higher apparent speeds in our analyses. The jets of BL Lacertae objects are slower than of quasars. There are some extreme sources with very high derived Lorentz factors of the order of a hundred. These high Lorentz factors could be real. It is also possible that the sources exhibit such rapid flares that the fast variations have remained undetected in monitoring programmes, or else the sources have a complicated jet structure that is not amenable to our simple analysis. Almost all the sources are seen in a small viewing angle of less than 20 degrees. Our results follow the predictions of basic unification schemes for AGN.
Improvements in cancer therapy have resulted in an expanding population of early‐onset cancer survivors. In contrast to childhood and adolescent cancer survivors, there is still a lack of data ...concerning late morbidities among young adult (YA) cancer survivors. Thus, our aim was to investigate cardiac and vascular morbidity among early‐onset cancer survivors with a special interest in YA cancer survivors. In a population‐based setting, we explored the risk of cardiovascular disease in early‐onset cancer survivors compared to healthy siblings. Patients diagnosed with cancer below 35 years of age since 1975 were identified from the Finnish Cancer Registry, and 5‐year survivors were included in our study (N = 13,860). Information on cardiovascular morbidity was collected from the national hospital discharge registry. Compared to siblings, cancer survivors aged 0–19 and 20–34 at diagnosis had significantly elevated hazard ratios (HRs) for the studied outcomes: HR 13.5 (95% CI 8.9–20.4) and 3.6 (95% CI 2.8–4.6) for cardiomyopathy/cardiac insufficiency; HR 3.4 (95% CI 2.3–5.1) and 1.7 (95% CI 1.4–2.0) for atherosclerosis/brain vascular thrombosis; HR 3.3 (95% CI 1.7–6.5) and 1.8 (95% CI 1.5–2.1) for myocardial infarction/cardiac ischemia and HR 1.7 (95% CI 1.2–2.6) and 1.4 (95% CI 1.2–1.7) for cardiac arrhythmia. In both groups, depending on the outcome, the HR for adverse events was highest among lymphoma, brain tumor, leukemia and testicular malignancy survivors. Our results regarding late effects of childhood cancer survivors confirmed previous findings. Additionally, our study provides novel information concerning the YA cancer survivor population. Hence, our data may help in planning the risk‐based long‐term follow‐up of early‐onset cancer survivors.

Long‐term survivors of childhood cancer may suffer from the later development of health conditions related to their disease or to the treatment they received, and much effort has been made to better monitor and treat these conditions. Unfortunately, the same advances have not occurred for young adult (YA) cancer survivors, who similar to their younger counterparts are at increased risk of life‐threatening vascular complications but lack specific guidelines for long‐term follow‐up, according to this study. The report suggests that YA cancer survivors could benefit greatly from individualized, follow‐up care.
We have detected six narrow-line Seyfert 1 (NLS1) galaxies at 37 GHz that were previously classified as radio silent and two that were classified as radio quiet. These detections reveal the ...presumption that NLS1 galaxies labelled radio quiet or radio silent and hosted by spiral galaxies are unable to launch jets to be incorrect. The detections are a plausible indicator of the presence of a powerful, most likely relativistic jet because this intensity of emission at 37 GHz cannot be explained by, for example, radiation from supernova remnants. Additionally, one of the detected NLS1 galaxies is a newly discovered source of gamma rays and three others are candidates for future detections.
Endocrine complications are a common late effect after childhood cancer. Our study assessed the prevalence and predictors of premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) and prospects of pregnancy in young ...female survivors. This nationwide study combined registry and survey data for female childhood cancer survivors aged 19 to 40 years, identified through the National Quality Registry for Childhood Cancer in Sweden. Of 1989 approached young women, 1333 (67%) participated by completing a survey. Median age at diagnosis 1981 to 2017 was 6 (range 0-17) and at study 28 (19-40) years. There were two indicators of POI, induced puberty reported in 5.3% and estrogen replacement therapy (ERT) in 9.3% at assessment. In separate logistic regression analyses (P < .001), induced puberty and ERT were significantly predicted by hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), abdominal irradiation, central nervous system irradiation and chemotherapy. ERT was also associated with older age at diagnosis. Of the 626 women (48% of responders) who had tried to become pregnant, 25% had undergone fertility investigations and 72% reported having a biological child. Treatment with HSCT was associated with 5.4 times the odds of needing fertility investigations (P < .001). Having a biological child was associated with non-HSCT treatment, but also with ever having had a partner and older age at the time of study (all P < .001). In conclusion, the majority of those female childhood cancer survivors who had tried to conceive were able to successfully give birth. However, a small identifiable group of female survivors are at risk of subfertility and early menopause.
We analyze the parsec-scale jet kinematics from 2007 June to 2013 January of a sample of γ-ray bright blazars monitored roughly monthly with the Very Long Baseline Array at 43 GHz. In a total of 1929 ...images, we measure apparent speeds of 252 emission knots in 21 quasars, 12 BL Lacertae objects (BLLacs), and 3 radio galaxies, ranging from 0.02c to 78c; 21% of the knots are quasi-stationary. Approximately one-third of the moving knots execute non-ballistic motions, with the quasars exhibiting acceleration along the jet within 5 pc (projected) of the core, and knots in BLLacs tending to decelerate near the core. Using the apparent speeds of the components and the timescales of variability from their light curves, we derive the physical parameters of 120 superluminal knots, including variability Doppler factors, Lorentz factors, and viewing angles. We estimate the half-opening angle of each jet based on the projected opening angle and scatter of intrinsic viewing angles of knots. We determine characteristic values of the physical parameters for each jet and active galactic nucleus class based on the range of values obtained for individual features. We calculate the intrinsic brightness temperatures of the cores, , at all epochs, finding that the radio galaxies usually maintain equipartition conditions in the cores, while ∼30% of measurements in the quasars and BLLacs deviate from equipartition values by a factor >10. This probably occurs during transient events connected with active states. In the Appendix, we briefly describe the behavior of each blazar during the period analyzed.

, and 18.6% of knots (other than the “core”) are quasi-stationary. One-fifth of moving knots exhibit nonballistic motion, with acceleration along the jet within 5 pc of the core (projected) and deceleration farther out. These accelerations occur mainly at locations coincident with quasi-stationary features. We calculate the physical parameters of 273 knots with statistically significant motion, including their Doppler factors, Lorentz factors, and viewing angles. We determine the typical values of these parameters for each jet and the average for each subclass of active galactic nuclei. We investigate the variability of the position angle of each jet over the 10 yr of monitoring. The fluctuations in position of the quasi-stationary components in radio galaxies tend to be parallel to the jet, while no directional preference is seen in the components of quasars and BL Lacertae objects. γ
-ray states of blazars and their parsec-scale jet properties, with blazars with brighter 43 GHz cores typically reaching higher
γ
-ray maxima during flares.
Summary
Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) has a high survival rate, but treatment is lengthy with risk of severe side‐effects, which may also impact parents' health‐related quality of life (HRQOL). ...We present data on 526 parents of 310 children treated for ALL according to the NOPHO ALL2008‐protocol, in Sweden, Finland and Denmark. Parents were asked to complete the 36‐Item Short Form Survey (SF‐36) at least 6 months after end of treatment and data were compared with Norwegian reference data. Parental background factors were collected via a study‐specific questionnaire. Participating parents scored significantly lower than the reference population on both physical and mental summary indexes, but only surpassed a minimal clinically important difference for the mental summary index (Mental Component Summary MCS). Mothers scored lower than fathers in the MCS and stopped working and took care of the affected child more often than the fathers. Higher mental HRQOL was associated with male gender and living in Finland or Denmark (compared to Sweden). Correlations within spouses in physical and mental scores were weak to moderate. In conclusion, ALL negatively affects parental HRQOL, especially the mental domains, even after treatment. Findings suggest that mothers are more affected than fathers and may require extra support.
Abstract
Primary human hepatocytes (PHHs) are commonly used for in vitro studies of drug-induced liver injury. However, when cultured as 2D monolayers, PHH lose crucial hepatic functions within ...hours. This dedifferentiation can be ameliorated when PHHs are cultured in sandwich configuration (2Dsw), particularly when cultures are regularly re-overlaid with extracellular matrix, or as 3D spheroids. In this study, the 6 participating laboratories evaluated the robustness of these 2 model systems made from cryopreserved PHH from the same donors considering both inter-donor and inter-laboratory variability and compared their suitability for use in repeated-dose toxicity studies using 5 different hepatotoxins with different toxicity mechanisms. We found that expression levels of proteins involved in drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion, as well as catalytic activities of 5 different CYPs, were significantly higher in 3D spheroid cultures, potentially affecting the exposure of the cells to drugs and their metabolites. Furthermore, global proteomic analyses revealed that PHH in 3D spheroid configuration were temporally stable whereas proteomes from the same donors in 2Dsw cultures showed substantial alterations in protein expression patterns over the 14 days in culture. Overall, spheroid cultures were more sensitive to the hepatotoxic compounds investigated, particularly upon long-term exposures, across testing sites with little inter-laboratory or inter-donor variability. The data presented here suggest that repeated-dosing regimens improve the predictivity of in vitro toxicity assays, and that PHH spheroids provide a sensitive and robust system for long-term mechanistic studies of drug-induced hepatotoxicity, whereas the 2Dsw system has a more dedifferentiated phenotype and lower sensitivity to detect hepatotoxicity.
Narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLS1s) are a class of active galactic nuclei that are known to be one of the few sources of γ-rays, which originate in a relativistic beamed jet. Because of their ...relatively large distance, a poorly investigated aspect of these jetted NLS1s is their environment, and in particular, their host galaxy. In this work, we present the results of a morphological analysis of the host galaxy of the jetted NLS1 IRAS 20181-2244 observed with the 6.5 m Baade Telescope of the Las Campanas Observatory. The GALFIT analysis run on the Ks image, along with additional spectroscopic observations performed with the Nordic Optical Telescope, clearly revealed the presence of an interacting system of two galaxies. The data suggest that this NLS1 is hosted by a late-type galaxy, although the result is not conclusive. This analysis, along with other results in the literature, might suggest that two populations of jetted NLS1 exist. Further morphological studies are needed to confirm or disprove this hypothesis.
