Previous studies of geometric and morphologic parameters of intracranial aneurysms have been conducted to determine rupture risk, which remains incompletely defined due to patient-specific risk ...factors, such as sex, hypertension, and age. To this end, we compared characteristics of ruptured and unruptured aneurysms in the same patients with symmetric bilateral intracranial aneurysms.
Between January 2008 and March 2014, 2361 patients with 2674 aneurysms were diagnosed by CT angiography or surgical findings at 4 medical centers. Geometric and morphologic parameters examined for symmetric bilateral intracranial aneurysms comprised aneurysm wall regularity, size, neck width, aspect ratio, size ratio, neck-to-parent artery ratio, and area ratio. Univariate and multivariate statistical analyses were performed to determine independent risk factors for rupture.
Sixty-three patients (48 women, 15 men; mean age, 62.5 ± 9.8 years) with symmetric bilateral aneurysms were eligible for the study and were included. The most frequent aneurysm location was the posterior communicating artery. Univariate analysis disclosed that aneurysm size, aspect ratio, size ratio, area ratio, and irregular wall differed between patients with ruptured and unruptured aneurysms. Multivariate analysis indicated that aspect ratio of ≥1.6 (adjusted OR, 9.521; 95% CI, 2.182-41.535), area ratio of ≥1.5 (adjusted OR, 4.089; 95% CI, 1.247-13.406), and irregular shape (adjusted OR, 10.443; 95% CI 3.394-32.135) were significant predictive factors for aneurysm rupture after adjustment for aneurysm size.
An aspect ratio of ≥1.6, area ratio of ≥1.5, and irregular wall are associated with aneurysm rupture independent of aneurysm size and patient characteristics. These characteristics alone can help in distinguishing ruptured bilateral intracranial aneurysms from unruptured ones.

Introduction
Gut microbiota plays important roles in human health and associates with a number of diseases. However, few studies explored its association with bone mineral loss in human.
Methods
We collected 102 fecal samples from each eligible individual belonging to low-BMD and control groups for high-throughput 16S rRNA gene sequencing.
Results
The low-BMD individuals had a smaller number of OTUs and bacterial taxa at each level. At the phylum level, Bacteroidetes were more abundant in the low-BMD group; Firmicutes were enriched in the control group; Firmicutes and Actinobacteria positively correlated and Bacteroidetes negatively correlated with the BMD and T-score in all subjects. At the family level, the abundance of Lachnospiraceae in low-BMD individuals reduced and positively correlated with BMD and T-score; meanwhile, BMD increased with increasing Bifidobacteriaceae. At the genus level, low-BMD individuals had decreased proportions of
Roseburia
compared with control ones (

< 0.05).

Conclusions
Several taxa with altered abundance and specific functional pathways were discovered in low-BMD individuals. Our findings provide novel epidemiologic evidence to elucidate the underlying microbiota-relevant mechanism in bone mineral loss and osteoporosis.

Hemodynamics have been shown to play an important role in the initiation and progress of intracranial aneurysms, and are considered well-related to vascular configuration. The purpose of this study ...was to quantify the vascular geometry change due to intracranial stent placement and to discuss its potential effects on hemodynamics.
Imaging data of patients with wide-neck AcomA aneurysms, treated with stent-assisted coiling between January 2005 and January 2010, were retrospectively analyzed. The angle between the afferent vessels (A1 segment) and the efferent vessels (ipsilateral or contralateral A2 segment) was calculated to determine the exact change in the angle after stent placement.
In all 20 patients, the stent caused a distinct change in the geometry of the parent vessel. Stent-related vascular angle change ranged from 7.60 to 74.88°, with an average of 29.95°. In 10 cases, the angle changed by >30°. In the 12 patients with the distal segment of the stent placed in the ipsilateral A2 segment, the mean postoperative A1-A2 angle increased by 27.71 ± 13.17° (from 7.60° to 48.29°). In the other 8 patients with the distal segment of the stent placed in the contralateral A2 segment, the mean postoperative A1-AcomA-A2 angle increased by 33.29 ± 21.89°(from 15.49° to 74.88°).
In addition to serving as a scaffold to contain coils, stent placement for AcomA aneurysms has a substantial effect on the vascular geometry, which may result in local hemodynamic changes.
Because cerebral morphological abnormalities in major depressive disorder (MDD) may be modulated by antidepressant treatment, inclusion of medicated patients may have biased previous meta-analyses of ...voxel-based morphometry (VBM) studies. A meta-analysis of VBM studies on medication-free MDD patients should be able to distinguish the morphological features of the disease itself from those of treatment.
A systematic search was conducted for the relevant studies. Effect-size signed differential mapping was applied to analyse the grey matter differences between all medication-free MDD patients and healthy controls. Meta-regression was used to explore the effects of demographics and clinical characteristics.
A total of 14 datasets comprising 400 medication-free MDD patients and 424 healthy controls met the inclusion criteria. The pooled meta-analysis and subgroup meta-analyses showed robustly reduced grey matter in prefrontal and limbic regions in MDD. Increased right thalamus volume was only seen in first-episode medication-naive patients, and increased grey matter in the bilateral anterior cingulate cortex only in medication wash-out patients. In meta-regression analyses the percentage of female patients in each study was negatively correlated with reduced grey matter in the right hippocampus.
By excluding interference from medication effects, the present study identified grey matter reduction in the prefrontal-limbic network in MDD. The subgroup meta-analysis results suggest that an increased right thalamus volume might be a trait directly related to MDD, while an increased anterior cingulate cortex volume might be an effect of medication. The meta-regression results perhaps reveal the structural underpinning of the sex differences in epidemiological and clinical aspects of MDD.

as an intrinsic TSC without the need of sensitive composition tuning or sophisticated heterostructures fabrication, but also provide an ideal platform for device applications thanks to its van der Waals layered structure.

Background
Interventional treatment for overt hepatic encephalopathy (OHE), includes non‐absorbable disaccharides, neomycin, rifaximin, L‐ornithine‐L‐aspartate and branched chain amino acids ...(BCAA). However, the optimum regimen remains inconclusive.
Aim
To compare interventions in terms of patients’ adverse events and major clinical outcomes.
Methods
Literature search of PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Cochrane Library studies published up to July 31 2014. RCTs of above interventions in OHE patients were included. Network meta‐analysis combined direct and indirect evidence to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and mean difference (MD) between treatments and the probabilities of ranking for treatment based on clinical outcomes.
Results
Twenty eligible RCTs were included. When compared with observation, only L‐ornithine‐L‐aspartate (OR 3.71, P < 0.001) and BCAA (OR 3.37, P < 0.001) improved clinical efficacy significantly. However, when L‐ornithine‐L‐aspartate was compared with BCAA, non‐absorbable disaccharides and neomycin, there was a trend suggesting that L‐ornithine‐L‐aspartate may be the most effective intervention with respect to clinical improvement (OR 1.10), rifaximin (OR 1.31), non‐absorbable disaccharides (OR 2.75), neomycin (OR 2.22). In addition, L‐ornithine‐L‐aspartate (MD −20.18, 95% CI −40.12 to −0.27) provided a significant reduction in blood ammonia concentration compared with observation. Neomycin appeared to be associated with more adverse events in comparison with non‐absorbable disaccharides (OR 10.15), rifaximin (OR 17.31), L‐ornithine‐L‐aspartate (OR 3.16) or BCAA (OR 7.69).
Conclusions
L‐ornithine‐L‐aspartate treatment may show a trend in superiority for clinical efficacy among standard interventions for OHE. Rifaximin shows the greatest reduction in blood ammonia concentration, and treatment with neomycin demonstrates a higher probability in causing adverse effects among the five compared interventions.
Background
Increased left atrium diameter (LAD) is associated with an elevated risk of cardiovascular diseases. The relationship between nutrition status and left atrial enlargement (LAE) is still ...unclear. The present study aimed to investigate the association of famine exposure in early life with LAE in adulthood.
Methods
Participants were divided into non‐exposed, fetal, early, middle and late childhood exposed groups according to birth data. LAE was defined when LAD was ≥3.9 cm in women and ≥4.1 cm in men, or ≥2.3 cm m−2 by a sex‐independent cut‐off normalised for body surface area. Multivariate logistic regression was performed to calculate the odds ratio (OR) and confidence interval (CI) between famine exposure and LAE.
Results
In total, 2522 905 male, mean (SD) age 59.1 (3.65) years subjects were enrolled, including 392 (15.5%) LAE subjects. The prevalence of LAE in non‐exposed, fetal, early, middle and late childhood exposed groups was 55 (10.8%), 38 (11.2%), 88 (18.1%), 102 (16.7%) and 109 (19.0%), respectively. Compared to the non‐exposed group, the ORs for LAE were in fetal (OR = 0.956, 95% CI = 0.605–1.500, P = 0.847), late (OR = 1.748, 95% CI = 1.208–2.555, P = 0.003), middle (OR = 1.647, 95% CI = 1.140–2.403, P = 0.008) and early (OR = 1.630, 95% CI = 1.116–2.399, P = 0.012) childhood exposed groups after adjusting potential cofounders. When stratified by gender, smoking, body mass index, hypertension and diabetes, we found that the effect of famine exposure on LAE was only modified by diabetes (Pinteraction = 0.007).
Conclusions
Famine exposure during childhood stage might increase the risk of LAE in adults, and this effect interacts with diabetes.
