3D sensors have already been proven as a viable and inherently radiation hard technology. While encouraging timing results have been obtained from small-pitch 3D test structure, new approaches are ...also being investigated to meet the challenges of the coming years.
One such approach, pursued in the framework of the INFN TIMESPOT project, is the development of 3D sensors with trenched electrodes. The trench geometry will provide more uniform electric and weighting fields than in current devices, allowing for good timing resolution, while also maintaining or improving upon the usual advantages of a 3D geometry.
We report the fabrication of the first batch of devices, consisting of TIMEPIX compatible pixel sensors, as well as a number of test devices that have been used to study the performance of different pixel geometries. Results highlighted good intrinsic properties, with leakage current of the order of 10 pA per pixel and opposite electrode pixel capacitance of approximately 70–75 fF per pixel, in good agreement with previous simulations of these devices.
The production fraction of the Bc− meson with respect to the sum of B− and B¯0 mesons is measured in both 7 and 13 TeV center-of-mass (c.m.) energy pp collisions produced by the Large Hadron Collider ...(LHC), using the LHCb detector. The rate, approximately 3.7 per mille, does not change with energy, but shows a transverse momentum dependence. The Bc−−Bc+ production asymmetry is also measured and is consistent with zero within the determined statistical and systematic uncertainties of a few percent.
Treprostinil sodium was recently approved in the United States for continuous subcutaneous infusion in the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Anticoagulation with warfarin is ...recommended in PAH therapy. Given the likelihood for treprostinil and warfarin coadministration, a single-blind, controlled, crossover study was conducted to evaluate the effect of treprostinil infusion on the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of a single dose of warfarin. Area under the effect-time curve (AUEC(0-1)) and maximum effect over the entire sampling phase (E(max)) for warfarin INR were 219.58 and 2.071 with treprostinil and 218.93 and 2.041 with vehicle, respectively. Mean time to attain the peak concentration of R-enantiomer of warfarin (T(max)), half-life, and elimination rate constant (k(el)) were 1.9 hours, 51.688 hours, and 0.0137 per hour, respectively, in the presence of treprostinil and 1.5 hours, 52.579 hours, and 0.0137 per hour, respectively, in the presence of vehicle (control). Results were similar for the S-enantiomer. The 90% confidence intervals for warfarin INR and warfarin R- and S-enantiomer pharmacokinetic parameter (C(max) and AUC( infinity )) ratios were within 0.80-1.25, which was established as the no-effect criterion for treprostinil coadministration. No serious or severe adverse events, anticoagulation-related events, or clinically significant physical or laboratory findings were reported. These findings suggest that a clinically important interaction between treprostinil and warfarin during therapy is unlikely.

From samples of pp collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at sqrts=7, 8 and 13 TeV, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 1.0, 2.0 and 1.5 fb^{-1}, respectively, a peak in both the ...Λ_{b}^{0}K^{-} and Ξ_{b}^{0}π^{-} invariant mass spectra is observed. In the quark model, radially and orbitally excited Ξ_{b}^{-} resonances with quark content bds are expected. Referring to this peak as Ξ_{b}(6227)^{-}, the mass and natural width are measured to be m_{Ξ_{b}(6227)^{-}}=6226.9±2.0±0.3±0.2 MeV/c^{2} and Γ_{Ξ_{b}(6227)^{-}}=18.1±5.4±1.8 MeV/c^{2}, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third, on m_{Ξ_{b}(6227)^{-}}, is due to the knowledge of the Λ_{b}^{0} baryon mass. Relative production rates of the Ξ_{b}(6227)^{-}→Λ_{b}^{0}K^{-} and Ξ_{b}(6227)^{-}→Ξ_{b}^{0}π^{-} decays are also reported.
The first measurement of the lifetime of the doubly charmed baryon Ξ_{cc}^{++} is presented, with the signal reconstructed in the final state Λ_{c}^{+}K^{-}π^{+}π^{+}. The data sample used ...corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 1.7 fb^{-1}, collected by the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The Ξ_{cc}^{++} lifetime is measured to be 0.256_{-0.022}^{+0.024}(stat)±0.014(syst) ps.
The nSYNC chip is a radiation tolerant custom ASIC, developed in UMC 130 nm technology, and the main component of the new readout electronics for the LHCb Muon Detector Upgrade. The nSYNC has been ...developed in order to implement all the required functionalities for the readout upgrade in terms of timing alignment and measurements, and equipped also with control and monitoring features. The internal architecture of the chip, the data flow and test results on different nSYNC functionalities are presented.
