In the last years it has been shown that some properties of strongly coupled superconductors can be potentially described by classical general relativity living in one higher dimension, which is ...known as holographic superconductors. This paper gives a quick and introductory overview of some holographic superconductor models with s-wave, p-wave and d-wave orders in the literature from point of view of bottom-up, and summarizes some basic properties of these holographic models in various regimes. The competition and coexistence of these superconductivity orders are also studied in these superconductor models.
This study employs a CES production function to construct a theoretical model of labor income share and uses a two-way fixed effects model to test the causal effects of local government debt (LGD) on ...the labor income share of enterprises. Local government debt governance policies are utilized as exogenous shocks, and a DID (Difference-in-Differences) model is applied for endogeneity testing. The results have passed a series of robustness checks. The findings suggest that LGD decreases the share of firms' labor income. The mechanism analysis suggests that LGD lowers the labor remuneration of residents, the employment of labor in enterprises, and the size of bank loans mainly; while raising the cost of using funds in enterprises. Moreover, this negative effect is more apparent in non-state-owned enterprises, small and medium-sized enterprises, and enterprises with high financing constraints. This study presents new evidence on how the labor income share of enterprises is affected from the perspective by local governments in China. It has important implications for further deepening local government debt governance and achieving common prosperity.
During the ongoing outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), people use social media to acquire and exchange various types of information at a historic and unprecedented scale. Only the situational ...information are valuable for the public and authorities to response to the epidemic. Therefore, it is important to identify such situational information and to understand how it is being propagated on social media, so that appropriate information publishing strategies can be informed for the COVID-19 epidemic. This article sought to fill this gap by harnessing Weibo data and natural language processing techniques to classify the COVID-19-related information into seven types of situational information. We found specific features in predicting the reposted amount of each type of information. The results provide data-driven insights into the information need and public attention.
Oxidative stress plays an essential role in obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome-induced cognitive dysfunction in children. This study investigated the effects of edaravone, a potent free ...radical scavenger, on intermittent hypoxia (IH)-induced oxidative damage and cognition impairment in a young rat model of IH. IH rats were treated with edaravone for 4 weeks. Behavioral testing was performed using the Morris water maze, and hippocampal tissues were harvested for further analyses. Edaravone attenuated IH-induced cognitive impairment, reduced morphological and structural abnormalities, and increased the number of mitochondria in the IH rats. Furthermore, edaravone significantly increased the inhibition of hydroxyl free radicals; reduced expressions of superoxide anion, malondialdehyde, and 8-hydroxy-2′-deoxyguanosine; and upregulated the expression of manganese superoxide dismutase, catalase, cAMP, protein kinase A, phosphorylated-cAMP response element-binding (p-CREB), B-cell lymphoma 2, and brain-derived neurotrophic factor in the hippocampal tissue of IH rats. Our findings suggest that edaravone attenuated IH-induced cognitive impairment and hippocampal damage by upregulating p-CREB in young rats.
Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) are a population of multipotent progenitors that have the capacity of proliferation and differentiation into mesenchymal lineage cells. The ...regulatory peptide apelin is the endogenous ligand for the G protein-coupled receptor APJ. Apelin, which can enhance BMSC proliferation, has mitogenic effects on a wide variety of cell types. We hypothesized that the increased apelin/APJ might be involved in the occurrence and development of hypoxia-induced BMSC proliferation. BMSCs from the bone marrow of 8- to 10-week-old C57BL/6J mice were cultured under either normoxia (21% oxygen) or hypoxia (1% oxygen) condition. Cell pro- liferation was determined by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay and 5-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine assay. Expressions of hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1α, apelin, APJ, Beclin-1, and LC311/LC31 were detected by western blot analysis. Results suggested that hypoxia enhanced the proliferation of BMSC in a time-dependent manner. The expressions of HIF-1α, apelin, APJ, Beclin-1, and LC311/LC31 were increased in BMSCs induced by hypoxia. Small interfering RNA (siRNA)-HIF-lc( that inhibited the hypoxia-induced expressions of apelin, APJ, Beclin-1, and LC311/ LC31 prevented hypoxia-induced BMSC proliferation, siRNA-APJ that inhibited the hypoxia-induced expressions of Beclin-1 and LC311/LC31 reversed hypoxia-induced BMSC proliferation, siRNA-Beclin- 1 also abolished hypoxia-induced cell proliferation. These data suggested that the apelin/APJ/autophagy signaling pathway might be involved in hypoxia-induced BMSC proliferation.
Introduction Social media platforms such as Twitter and Weibo facilitate both positive and negative communication, including cyberbullying. Empirical evidence has revealed that cyberbullying ...increases when public crises occur, that such behavior is gendered, and that social media user account verification may deter it. However, the association of gender and verification status with cyberbullying is underexplored. This study aims to address this gap by examining how Weibo users’ gender, verification status, and expression of affect and anger in posts influence cyberbullying attitudes. Specifically, it investigates how these factors differ between posts pro- and anti-cyberbullying of COVID-19 cases during the pandemic. Methods This study utilized social role theory, the Barlett and Gentile Cyberbullying Model, and general strain theory as theoretical frameworks. We applied text classification techniques to identify pro-cyberbullying and anti-cyberbullying posts on Weibo. Subsequently, we used a standardized mean difference method to compare the emotional content of these posts. Our analysis focused on the prevalence of affective and anger-related expressions, particularly examining variations across gender and verification status of the users. Results Our text classification identified distinct pro-cyberbullying and anti-cyberbullying posts. The standardized mean difference analysis revealed that pro-cyberbullying posts contained significantly more emotional content compared to anti-cyberbullying posts. Further, within the pro-cyberbullying category, posts by verified female users exhibited a higher frequency of anger-related words than those by other users. Discussion The findings from this study can enhance researchers’ algorithms for identifying cyberbullying attitudes, refine the characterization of cyberbullying behavior using real-world social media data through the integration of the mentioned theories, and help government bodies improve their cyberbullying monitoring especially in the context of public health crises.
A wealth of research indicates that superficial gastritis (SG) and atrophic gastritis (AG) are precursors to gastric cancer (GC). While Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) has long been recognized as a ...key player in GC development, recent findings by Fu et al. have identified Streptococcus anginosus (S. anginosus) as an emerging pathogen that can trigger SG, AG and GC. S. anginosus, a gram-positive coccus, leverages its surface protein T. pallidum membrane protein C (TMPC) to engage with the annexin A2 (ANXA2) receptor of gastric epithelial cells, facilitating its colonization and invasion in the gastric mucosa. This leads to an upregulation of proinflammatory chemokines Ccl20 and Ccl8, causing prolonged effects on gastric barrier function and microbiota homeostasis, leading to SG. Moreover, these bacteria activate the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway, which is associated with the development of AG and GC. Importantly, inhibiting TMPC or knocking down ANXA2 can reduce S. anginosus colonization and invasion, lowering the chances of SG, AG, and GC. This paper highlights the molecular mechanisms of S. anginosus in SG, AG and GC, emphasizing the importance of a multi-pathogen strategy in gastric disease management and the need for further investigation into the role of S. anginosus in GC progression.
The classification of the family Psilotrichidae, a curious group of ciliated protists with unique morphological and ontogenetic features, is ambiguous and poorly understood particularly due to the ...lack of molecular data. Hence, the systematic relationship between this group and other taxa in the subclass Hypotrichia remains unresolved. In this paper the morphology and phylogenetics of species from two genera of Psilotrichida are studied to shed new light on the phylogeny and species diversity of this group of ciliates.
The 18S rRNA gene sequences of species from two psilotrichid genera were obtained. In the phylogenetic trees, the available psilotrichid sequences are placed in a highly supported clade, justifying the establishment of the family Psilotrichidae. The morphology of two little-known species, packed with green algae, including a new species, Hemiholosticha kahli nov. spec., and Psilotrichides hawaiiensis Heber et al., 2018, is studied based on live observation, protargol impregnation, and scanning electron microscopy. Both species are easily recognized by their green coloration due to the intracellular algae, and a comprehensive discussion as to the possible roles of the intracellular algae is provided.
The 18S rRNA gene phylogeny supports the morphological argument that Hemiholosticha, Psilotrichides and Urospinula belong to the same family, Psilotrichidae. However, the single-gene analysis, not surprisingly, does not resolve the deeper relationships of Psilotrichidae within the subclass Hypotrichia. Two little-known psilotrichid genera with green algae were collected from the same puddle on the island of Guam, indicating a high species diversity and broader geographic distribution of this group of ciliates than previously supposed. Phylogenetic inferences from transcriptomic and/or genomic data will likely be necessary to better define the systematic position and evolution of the family Psilotrichidae. Further studies are also needed to clarify the role of the intracellular eyespot-bearing algae in these ciliates.
Over the past several decades, RNA modifications have rapidly emerged as an indispensable topic in epitranscriptomics. N6-methyladenosine (m6A), namely, methylation at the sixth position of an ...adenine base in an RNA molecule, is the most prevalent RNA modification in both coding and noncoding RNAs. m6A has emerged as a crucial posttranscriptional regulator involved in both physiological and pathological processes. Based on accumulating evidence, m6A participates in the pathogenesis of immune-related diseases by regulating both innate and adaptive immune cells through various mechanisms. Autoimmune diseases are caused by a self-destructive immune response in the setting of genetic and environmental factors, and recent studies have discovered that m6A may play an essential role in the development of autoimmune diseases. In this review, we focus on the important role of m6A modification in biological functions and highlight its contributions to immune cells and the development of autoimmune diseases, thereby providing promising epitranscriptomic targets for preventing and treating autoimmune disorders.
