Twenty-eight children (5 girls, 23 boys; age, 20.3 +/- 16.2 months) with Kawasaki disease (KD) were included in this study. The children were treated with aspirin plus intravenous injection of gamma ...globulin (IVGG). Both Tc-99m HMPAO labeled WBC heart imaging (Tc-WBC) and two-dimensional echocardiograms (2D-Echo) were used to evaluate the effects of IVGG on the most common cardiac presentations--carditis and dilated coronary arteries--in KD. After IVGG therapy, the results showed that 32.1% (9/28) carditis patients had improved; 39.3% (11/28) of patients had no significant change; 28.6% (8/28) of patients had severe changes, and there was no significant difference among the three groups by the evidences of Tc-WBC. Dilated coronary arteries (CA) became smaller in 32.1% (9/28) of patients; 53.6% (15/28) of patients had no definite change; 14.3% (4/28) of patients had dilated LCA that became larger; and borderline difference existed among the three groups, proved by 2D-Echo. Between the Tc-WBC and 2D-Echo, 35.7% (10/28) of patients had similar changes, and 64% (18/28) of patients showed incongruous changes; and there was little difference. In conclusion, Tc-WBC and 2D-Echo provide strong evidence of the existence of carditis and dilated coronary arteries in certain patients, even after IVGG treatment. The improvements of carditis and dilated coronary arteries were not correlated with each other after IVGG therapy.
This paper demonstrates a new compact and scaleable model of mechanical stress effects on MOS electrical performance, induced by shallow trench isolation (STI). This model has included the influence ...of STI stress not only on the mobility and saturation velocity, but also on the threshold voltage and other important second-order effects. Thus it could simulate the layout dependence of MOS performance with good accuracy and efficiency. We have verified this model with various device dimensions and layout styles of our advanced MOS technologies. And it shows the importance of this new model for circuit design in advanced CMOS generations.
We have performed electrical transport measurements on InN films. Our results show that the electron transport in our InN films is metallic-like, that is, within the experimental error the carrier ...density is temperature-independent over a wide temperature range (4K≤T≤290K). At low temperatures, the resistivities of our InN devices appear to saturate and show gradual increase with increasing temperatures. We suggest that residue impurity scattering limits the electron mobility in InN films. We compare our results with existing theoretical models.
Eighteen patients with Kawasaki disease and suspected carditis (11 boys, 7 girls, mean age 18 months) in acute stages underwent Tc-99m HMPAO WBC imaging of the heart. Signs and symptoms subsided ...after conventional aspirin therapy and the intravenous injection of high-dose (400 mg/kg per day for 5 days) gamma-globulin treatments. Tc-99m HMPAO WBC imaging of the heart was arranged a second time to evaluate the effects of the treatments for carditis. The results showed that a significant difference existed in the severity of carditis before and after the treatments (P less than 0.001, by signed rank test), 39% (7/18) with significant improvement in severity of carditis, 50% (9/18) without definite change. However, 11% (2/18) became more severely ill after the treatments. Tc-99m HMPAO WBC imaging may be useful in detecting carditis in Kawasaki disease and in evaluating the effects of aspirin plus the newly recommended gamma-globulin for the treatment of carditis in Kawasaki disease.
In this demonstration, the core processing engines of two video applications, 3D video and intelligent video surveillance, are demonstrated. The developed algorithms and its VLSI design results are ...shown with hardware prototypes processing input video on-the-fly. In addition to the processing engine design, the development tools for efficiently designing these chips are also demonstrated.
The Yuan-Tseh Lee Array for Microwave Background Anisotropy (AMiBA) is the first interferometer dedicated to studying the cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation at 3mm wavelength. The choice of ...3mm was made to minimize the contributions from foreground synchrotron radiation and Galactic dust emission. The initial configuration of seven 0.6m telescopes mounted on a 6-m hexapod platform was dedicated in October 2006 on Mauna Loa, Hawaii. Scientific operations began with the detection of a number of clusters of galaxies via the thermal Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect. We compare our data with Subaru weak lensing data in order to study the structure of dark matter. We also compare our data with X-ray data in order to derive the Hubble constant.

The College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the National Taiwan University has identified the area of content science for media-rich life, broadly construed, as one of core areas ...for the college's future directions. One major aspect of this project is to develop the enabling technology for reconfigurable platforms for multimedia applications. Specifically, the goal is to develop reconfigurable platforms of system-on-a-chip (SoC) components for the applications to support the needs of multi-modal multimedia contents and to provide rapid system prototyping. The faculties in the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science have formed a multi-discipline team to develop such technology. Our team includes seven faculties and more than thirty students from the college. This short report describes the reconfigurable platform for content science research activities currently underway by our team. Our current activities include to develop the technology to analyze the critical path for avoiding hardware contention, to minimize the use of logic components, to design the multimedia IPs, to optimally route the bus and place the logic units, to design energy efficient cache, to evaluate the performance and power consumption, to design the algorithm for temporal floor-planning/placement.

Calibration for servomotors is widely applied in various fields, especially in robot control and factory automation. Because the real time response to system control feedbacks is a compulsory ...characteristic for calibration for servomotor, a hardware structure with quick response characteristic needs to be implemented to replace the software. The goal is to prevent the servomotors from out of control. In this paper, a calibration control feedbacks system with remote monitoring features and parametric designs can be built rapidly through FPGA. Users can configure the number of axis and proportional integration derivative (PID) parameters by themselves with any other servomotors. Using Internet or LAN to realize the remote calibration control for servomotor system is also achievable.
