Few systematic methods prioritize the image education in medical students (MS). We hope to develop a checklist of brain computerized tomography (CT) reading in patients with suspected acute ischemic ...stroke (AIS) for MS and primary care (PC) physicians.
Our pilot group generated the items indicating specific structures or signs for the checklist of brain CT reading in suspected AIS patients for MS and PC physicians. These items were used in a modified web-based Delphi process using the online software "SurveyMonkey". In total 15 panelists including neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, and emergency department physicians participated in the modified Delphi process. Each panelist was encouraged to express feedback, agreement or disagreement on the inclusion of each item using a 9-point Likert scale. Items with median scores of 7-9 were included in our final checklist.
Fifty-two items were initially provided for the first round of the Delphi process. Of these, 35 achieved general agreement of being an essential item for the MS and PC physicians. The other 17 of the 52 items in this round and another two added items suggested by the panelists were further rated in the next round. Finally, 38 items were included in the essential checklist items of brain CT reading in suspected AIS patients for MS and PC physicians.
We established a reference regarding the essential items of brain CT reading in suspected AIS patients. We hope this helps to minimize malpractice and a delayed diagnosis, and to improve competency-based medical education for MS and PC physicians.
In this study, we used (i) synchrotron grazing-incidence small-/wide-angle X-ray scattering to elucidate the crystallinity of the polymer PBTC12TPD and the sizes of the clusters of the fullerenes ...PC61BM and ThC61BM and (ii) transmission electron microscopy/electron energy loss spectroscopy to decipher both horizontal and vertical distributions of fullerenes in PBTC12TPD/fullerene films processed with chloroform, chlorobenzene and dichlorobezene. We found that the crystallinity of the polymer and the sizes along with the distributions of the fullerene clusters were critically dependent on the solubility of the polymer in the processing solvent when the solubility of fullerenes is much higher than that of the polymer in the solvent. In particular, with chloroform (CF) as the processing solvent, the polymer and fullerene units in the PBTC12TPD/ThC61BM layer not only give rise to higher crystallinity and a more uniform and finer fullerene cluster dispersion but also formed nanometer scale interpenetrating network structures and presented a gradient in the distribution of the fullerene clusters and polymer, with a higher polymer density near the anode and a higher fullerene density near the cathode. As a result of combined contributions from the enhanced polymer crystallinity, finer and more uniform fullerene dispersion and gradient distributions, both the short current density and the fill factor for the device incorporating the CF-processed active layer increase substantially over that of the device incorporating a dichlorobenzene-processed active layer; the resulting power conversion efficiency of the device incorporating the CF-processed active layer was enhanced by 46% relative to that of the device incorporating a dichlorobenzene-processed active layer.
We simultaneously employed grazing incidence small-angle and wide-angle X-ray scattering (GISAXS and GIWAXS) techniques to quantitatively study the structural evolution and kinetic behavior of ...poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) crystallization, 6,6-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) aggregation and amorphous P3HT/PCBM domains from a bulk heterojunction (BHJ) to a thermally unstable structure. The independent phase separation regimes on the nanoscale (∼10 nm), mesoscale (∼100 nm) and macroscale (∼μm) are revealed for the first time. Bis-PCBM molecules as inhibitors incorporated into the P3HT/PCBM blend films were adopted as a case study of a control strategy for improving the thermal stability of P3HT/PCBM solar cell. The detailed information on the formation, growth, transformation and mutual interaction between different phases during the hierarchical structural evolution of P3HT/PCBM:xbis-PCBM (x = 8-100%) blend films are presented herein. This systematic study proposes the mechanisms of thermal instability for a polymer/fullerene-based solar cell. We demonstrate a new fundamental concept that the structural evolution and thermal stability of mesoscale amorphous P3HT/PCBM domains during heating are the origin of controlling thermal instability rather than those of nanoscale thermally-stable BHJ structures. It leads to a low-cost and easy-fabrication control strategy for effectively tailoring the hierarchical morphology against thermal instability from molecular to macro scales. The optimum treatment achieving high thermal stability, control of mesoscale domains, can be effectively designed. It is independent of the original BHJ nanostructure design of a polymer/fullerene-based solar cell with high performance. It advances the general knowledge on the thermal instability directly arising from the nanoscale structure.

, inferring a bias-switching linear dynamic range approaching 80 dB. We also demonstrate the possibility of visualizing low-intensity infrared signals from the Face ID and LiDAR, which should fill the gap in the existing technology based on pixelated complementary metal-oxide semiconductors with optical lenses.
To compare the image distortion and the quantification variation in parotid gland apparent diffusion coefficients (ADCs) on periodically rotated overlapping parallel lines with enhanced ...reconstruction (PROPELLER) versus echo-planar diffusion-weighted (DW) magnetic resonance (MR) images and to investigate the relationship between parotid gland ADC and parotid gland fat content.
This prospective study was approved by a local institutional review board. Written informed consent was obtained from all 33 enrolled healthy volunteers (15 men, 18 women; mean age, 36.4 years +/- 11.8 standard deviation). All participants underwent 1.5-T non-fat-saturated and fat-saturated PROPELLER DW MR imaging as well as 1.5-T nonaccelerated and twofold-accelerated echo-planar DW MR imaging. Image distortion on the DW images was qualitatively scored, and parotid ADC was quantitatively analyzed. The correlation between parotid ADC and parotid fat content was evaluated by using linear regression analysis. Wilcoxon signed rank and t tests were used for statistical analysis, with Bonferroni correction applied for multiple comparisons.
Echo-planar DW images showed distortion, which was completely eliminated on the PROPELLER DW images. The mean parotid ADCs measured with non-fat-saturated PROPELLER (0.670 x 10(-3) mm(2) +/- 0.149), nonaccelerated echo-planar (0.892 x 10(-3) mm(2) +/- 0.128), twofold-accelerated echo-planar (1.088 x 10(-3) mm(2) +/- 0.124), and fat-saturated PROPELLER (1.307 x 10(-3) mm(2) +/- 0.217) DW imaging differed significantly from one another (P < .001 for all comparisons). Parotid ADC had a significant negative correlation with parotid fat content (x) measured at non-fat-saturated PROPELLER DW imaging: ADC = -0.0087x + 1.1173 (r = 0.80, P < .001).
PROPELLER DW imaging pulse sequences can yield distortion-free images for parotid ADC measurements and enable quantitative evaluation of the relationship between parotid ADC and parotid fat content.

Endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) has become the standard treatment for acute ischemic stroke with large vessel occlusion. Atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the major causes. However, the impact of AF ...on the treatment has not yet been clearly discussed. This study is to evaluate the influence of AF on the outcomes of EVT in patients with acute ischemic stroke.
Data from our Stroke Registry Database from April 2015 to July 2018 were reviewed. Technical efficacy, functional, and safety outcomes were reported and compared between patients with and without AF. A multivariate logistic regression model was performed to identify the predictors of the good functional outcome.
We reviewed 83 eligible patients receiving EVT. Patients (51.8%) were eventually found to have AF. The substantial reperfusion rate (modified thrombolysis in cerebral infarction 2b-3) was 72.1% and 55.0% in patients with and without AF, respectively, inclusive of a learning curve (p = 0.12). The good functional outcome (90-day modified Rankin scale: 0 to 2) rate was 55.8% and 17.5% in patients with and without AF, respectively (p < 0.01). A multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that age <70 years, the substantial reperfusion, and the presence of AF were three significant predictors for a good functional outcome.
Our study showed that patients with AF responded significantly better to EVT than those without AF did. Intracranial atherosclerotic diseases in patients without AF which were especially refractory to EVT may contribute to the difference of the functional outcomes between the two groups.
This letter investigates the unipolar resistive switching behaviors of sputtered ZnO thin films by changing the electrode combinations of Pt and Ru, creating four sandwich structures of Pt/ZnO/Pt, ...Pt/ZnO/Ru, Ru/ZnO/Pt, and Ru/ZnO/Ru. Only the Pt/ZnO/Ru devices in this letter achieved favorable resistive switching characteristics, including good endurance performance, narrow distributions in switching parameters, high on/off ratio (>; 150), and clear difference between the set and reset voltages (~1 V). This may be attributed to the low oxygen affinity of Pt electrodes and the strong c-axis texture of ZnO thin films grown on Ru electrodes.
Despite rapid advancement in generation of large-scale microarray gene expression datasets, robust multigene expression signatures that are capable of guiding the use of specific therapies have not ...been routinely implemented into clinical care. We have developed an iterative resampling analysis to predict sensitivity algorithm to generate gene expression sensitivity profiles that predict patient responses to specific therapies. The resultant signatures have a robust capacity to accurately predict drug sensitivity as well as the identification of synergistic combinations. Here, we apply this approach to predict response to PARP inhibitors, and show it can greatly outperforms current clinical biomarkers, including
mutation status, accurately identifying PARP inhibitor-sensitive cancer cell lines, primary patient-derived tumor cells, and patient-derived xenografts. These signatures were also capable of predicting patient response, as shown by applying a cisplatin sensitivity signature to ovarian cancer patients. We additionally demonstrate how these drug-sensitivity signatures can be applied to identify novel synergizing agents to improve drug efficacy. Tailoring therapeutic interventions to improve patient prognosis is of utmost importance, and our drug sensitivity prediction signatures may prove highly beneficial for patient management.
Cognitive impairment develops with pre-diabetes and dementia is a complication of diabetes. Natural products like turmeric and cinnamon may ameliorate the underlying pathogenesis.
People ≥ 60 years ...(n=48) with newly-recognised untreated pre-diabetes were randomised to a double-blind metabolic study of placebo, turmeric (1 g), cinnamon (2 g) or both (1 g & 2 g respectively), ingested at a white bread (119 g) breakfast. Observations were made over 6 hours for pre- and post-working memory (WM), glycaemic and insulin responses and biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease (AD)(0, 2, 4 and 6 hours): amyloid precursor protein (APP), γ-secretase subunits presenilin-1 (PS1), presenilin-2 (PS2), and glycogen synthase kinase (GSK-3β). Differences between natural product users and non-users were determined by Students t and chi square tests; and between pre-test and post-test WM by Wilcoxon signed rank tests. Interaction between turmeric and cinnamon was tested by 2-way ANOVA. Multivariable linear regression (MLR) took account of BMI, glycaemia, insulin and AD biomarkers in the WM responses to turmeric and cinnamon.
No interaction between turmeric and cinnamon was detected. WM increased from 2.6 to 2.9 out of 3.0 (p=0.05) with turmeric, but was unchanged with cinnamon. WM improvement was inversely associated with insulin resistance (r=-0.418, p<0.01), but not with AD biomarkers. With MLR, the WM responses to turmeric were best predicted with an R2 of 34.5%; and with significant turmeric, BMI and insulin/glucose AUC beta-coefficients.
Co-ingestion of turmeric with white bread increases working memory independent of body fatness, glycaemia, insulin, or AD biomarkers.
