The SuperNemo collaboration is currently building the SuperNemo demonstrator at the Modane Underground Laboratory, as the proof of concept for the full SuperNemo program. The enriched ββ0ν source ...consisting of thin foils containing 7 kg of 82Se is enclosed by the gas tracker and the plastic scintillator calorimeter. The full reconstruction of the ββ0ν event topology ensures an excellent background rejection and points at a true zero-background search. One of the most critical sources of background is a contamination in the source foils. The required radiopurity is 208Tl < 2 µBq/kg and 214Bi < 10 µBq/kg to achieve the sensitivity T1/2(ββ0ν) > 1026 years. The collaboration has developed a dedicated detector to measure the ultra high natural radiopurities requested, the BiPo-3 detector, installed in the Canfranc Underground Laboratory. The experimental design and performances of BiPo-3 are presented. Dedicated background measurements have been performed. After an exposure of about 2 years.m2 the surface activities of the scintillators of A(208Tl) = 1.0 ± 0.2 µBq/m2 and A(214Bi) = 1.0 ± 0.3 µBq/m2 are measured. Results of the 208Tl and 214Bi activity measurements of the first enriched 82Se foils of SuperNemo are also presented.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of defoliation frequency (either at two‐ or three‐leaf stage) and nitrogen (N) application rate (0, 75, 150, 300, 450 kg N ha−1 year−1) on ...herbage carbohydrate and crude protein (CP) fractions, and the water‐soluble carbohydrate‐to‐protein ratio (WSC:CP) in perennial ryegrass swards. Crude protein fractions were analysed according to the Cornell carbohydrate and protein system. Carbohydrate fractions were analysed by ultra‐high‐performance liquid chromatography. Sward defoliation at two‐leaf stage increased the total CP, reduced the buffer‐soluble CP fractions and decreased carbohydrate fractions of herbage (P < 0·001). The effect of defoliation frequency was less marked during early spring and autumn (P < 0·001) than for the rest of the seasons. An increase in N application rate was negatively associated with WSC, fructans and neutral detergent fibre (P < 0·001), and positively associated with CP and nitrate (N‐NO3) contents of herbage. Nitrogen application rate did not affect CP fractions of herbage (P > 0·05). The fluctuations in CP and WSC contents of herbage resulted in lower WSC:CP ratios during early spring and autumn (0·45:1 and 0·75:1 respectively) than in late spring (1·11:1). The herbage WSC:CP ratio was greater (P < 0·001) at the three‐leaf than the two‐leaf defoliation stage and declined as the N application increased in all seasons (P < 0·001). The results of this study indicate that CP and carbohydrate fractions of herbage can be manipulated by sward defoliation frequency and N application rate. The magnitude of these effects, however, may vary with the season.

Te. The limiting factor in large-scale bolometric searches for this rare process is the background induced by surface radioactive contamination, as shown by the results of the CUORE experiment. The basic concept of CROSS consists of rejecting this challenging background component by pulse-shape discrimination, assisted by a proper coating of the faces of the crystal containing the isotope of interest and serving as energy absorber of the bolometric detector. In this paper, we demonstrate that ultra-pure superconductive Al films deposited on the crystal surfaces act successfully as pulse-shape modifiers, both with fast and slow phonon sensors. Rejection factors higher than 99.9% of
α
surface radioactivity have been demonstrated in a series of prototypes based on crystals of Li
2
MoO
4
and TeO
2
. We have also shown that point-like energy depositions can be identified up to a distance of

1 mm from the coated surface. The present program envisions an intermediate experiment to be installed underground in the Canfranc laboratory (Spain) in a CROSS-dedicated facility. This experiment, comprising

This article reports on a patient who required a cranial protection system. Using additive manufacturing techniques and surgical planning with the help of bio-models, a patient-specific bone implant ...solution was proposed that allows aesthetic restoration of the affected area and provides an adequate level of protection. In addition, through a comparative analysis with finite elements, the mechanical response to external actions of the medical device, printed with two materials: polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) and polyether-ether-ketone (PEEK), is simulated. The tested materials have recognized biocompatibility properties, but their costs on the market differ significantly. The results obtained demonstrate the similarities in the responses of both materials. It offers the possibility that low-income people can access these devices, guaranteeing adequate biomechanical safety, considering that PMMA is a much cheaper material than PEEK.
Random coincidences of events could be one of the main sources of background in the search for neutrino-less double-beta decay of
100
Mo with macro-bolometers, due to their modest time resolution. ...Scintillating bolometers as those based on Li
2
MoO
4
crystals and employed in the CROSS and CUPID experiments can eventually exploit the coincident fast signal detected in a light detector to reduce this background. However, the scintillation provides a modest signal-to-noise ratio, making difficult a pile-up pulse-shape recognition and rejection at timescales shorter than a few ms. Neganov–Trofimov–Luke assisted light detectors (NTL-LDs) offer the possibility to effectively increase the signal-to-noise ratio, preserving a fast time-response, and enhance the capability of pile-up rejection via pulse shape analysis. In this article we present: (a) an experimental work performed with a Li
2
MoO
4
scintillating bolometer, studied in the framework of the CROSS experiment, and utilizing a NTL-LD; (b) a simulation method to reproduce, synthetically, randomly coincident two-neutrino double-beta decay events; (c) a new analysis method based on a pulse-shape discrimination algorithm capable of providing high pile-up rejection efficiencies. of the double-beta decay, and target the goal of a next generation experiment like CUPID.
Dark matter (DM) particles with sufficiently large cross sections may scatter as they travel through Earth's bulk. The corresponding changes in the DM flux give rise to a characteristic daily ...modulation signal in detectors sensitive to DM-electron interactions. Here, we report results obtained from the first underground operation of the DAMIC-M prototype detector searching for such a signal from DM with MeV-scale mass. A model-independent analysis finds no modulation in the rate of 1 e^{-} events with sidereal period, where a DM signal would appear. We then use these data to place exclusion limits on DM in the mass range 0.53,2.7 MeV/c^{2} interacting with electrons via a dark photon mediator. Taking advantage of the time-dependent signal we improve by ∼2 orders of magnitude on our previous limit obtained from the total rate of 1 e^{-} events, using the same dataset. This daily modulation search represents the current strongest limit on DM-electron scattering via ultralight mediators for DM masses around 1 MeV/c^{2}.
The Edelweiss-II collaboration has completed a search for WIMP dark matter using 400-g cryogenic Ge detectors and 384 kg-d of effective exposure. The next phase aims to probe the range of ...spin-independent WIMP-nucleon cross-sections between 10−8 and 10−9 pb. We present the study of gamma and neutron background coming from radioactive decays in the set-up and shield materials based on GEANT4 Monte Carlo simulations combined with measured radioactivity levels of all components. The results of these background studies have been useful to design the changes in the Edelweiss set-up to further reduce the background events in the next phase of the experiment.

crystals) capable of discriminating surface
α
and
β
interactions by exploiting superconducting properties of Al film deposited on the detector surface. We report in this paper the results of tests on prototypes performed at CSNSM (Orsay, France) that showed the capability of a-few-
μ
m
-thick superconducting Al film deposited on crystal surface to discriminate surface
α
from bulk events, thus providing the detector with the required pulse shape discrimination capability. The CROSS technology would further improve the background suppression and simplify the detector construction (no auxiliary light detector is needed to reject alpha surface events) with a view to future competitive double-beta decay searches.
The main limitation in the high-sensitive HPGe gamma-ray spectrometry has been the detector background, even for detectors placed deep underground. Environmental radionuclides such as 40K and decay ...products in the 238U and 232Th chains have been identified as the most important radioactive contaminants of construction parts of HPGe gamma-ray spectrometers. Monte Carlo simulations have shown that the massive inner and outer lead shields have been the main contributors to the HPGe-detector background, followed by aluminum cryostat, copper cold finger, detector holder and the lead ring with FET. The Monte Carlo simulated cosmic-ray background gamma-ray spectrum has been by about three orders of magnitude lower than the experimental spectrum measured in the Modane underground laboratory (4800 m w.e.), underlying the importance of using radiopure materials for the construction of ultra-low-level HPGe gamma-ray spectrometers.
