Fibrin structure and stability have been linked to many thrombotic diseases, including venous thromboembolism. Analysis of the molecular mechanisms that affect fibrin structure and stability became ...possible when the crystal structure of fibrinogen was solved. Biochemical studies of natural and recombinant variant fibrinogens have examined the interactions that mediate the conversion of soluble fibrinogen to the insoluble fibrin network. These studies identified intermolecular interactions that control fibrin structure, although some critical events remain ambiguous. Studies show that fibrin structure modulates the enzymatic lysis of the fibrin network, so the molecular mechanisms that control structure also control stability. Studies show that the mechanical stability of the fibrin clot depends on the properties of the fibrin monomer, leading investigators to explore the molecular basis of the monomer's mechanical properties. The work summarized here provides insights that might allow the development of pharmaceuticals and treatments to modulate fibrin structure and stability in vivo and thereby prevent or limit thrombotic disease.

Background
Pipeline and pathways models influence persistence metrics used to study how students navigate engineering education.
Purpose
This study presents pipeline, pathways, and ecosystem models ...and their associated metrics, compares and contrasts these models using an intersectional approach to explore persistence, and advocates for use of an ecosystem model.
Design/Method
This study presents a quantitative perspective of engineering student outcomes disaggregated by discipline, race/ethnicity, and sex. It includes 111,925 engineering students from 11 U.S. universities, including first‐time‐in‐college and transfer students who ever majored in the most common engineering disciplines: chemical, civil, electrical, industrial, and mechanical engineering. Contemporary data visualization methods are used to display quantitative data and clarify their complexity.
Results
This work captures the intersectionality of race/ethnicity, sex, and discipline with metrics that are new or little used, such as stickiness (retention by a discipline), migrator graduation rate, and migration yield (attraction of a discipline). Using these metrics, we uncover information about the success of students who migrate between and among the top five engineering disciplines.
Conclusions
Stickiness, migrator graduation rates, and migration yield metrics coupled with contemporary data visualization methods provide insights into the student experience not afforded by the conventional pipeline and pathways models. Considering engineering education as an ecosystem tells stories of complexity and nuance, opening possibilities for new research.
In March of 2020, during the global COVID‐19 pandemic, therapists quickly transitioned to telehealth platforms to provide their services. Teletherapy, while subject to some constraints, presents ...unique opportunities to work creatively with couples, particularly during these uncertain times. This paper offers a case study of work with a couple using systemic, developmental attachment, dialogical, and somatic trauma theories. Action techniques, including doubling, ideal futures creation, and a foam roller trust exercise are employed to facilitate change processes as couples face the chaos and unknowns of the pandemic and the difficulties that have become triggered between them. These exercises help to open perspective, increase awareness, and lower resistance to change. Couples are able to physically enact and metabolise alternative realities while discharging excess energies in familiar surroundings.
Elevated fibrinogen is a cardiovascular risk factor. Recent work provides a rationale for this risk, as abnormal fibrin clot structure, strength and stability correlates with coronary artery disease. ...This review describes in-vitro experiments whose intent is to define the molecular mechanisms that control clot architecture and function in vivo.
Biochemical and structural data continue to define the interactions between monomer units that assemble into a fibrin clot. In particular, 'A: a' interactions dominate the first step in fiber formation, while the analogous 'B: b' interactions have a minor role. Studies show the N-terminus of Bbeta, the C-terminus of Aalpha, and the splice variant gamma' modulate fibrin clot structure. Measurement of the mechanical properties of fibrinogen and fibrin show fibrin fibers are among the strongest in nature. Studies have identified fibrinogen-binding proteins that influence clot structure and function.
These findings defined mechanisms that control fibrin clot structure, strength and stability. This basic information provides direction for clinical studies to examine clot properties in pathologic thrombosis and pharmaceutical studies to develop therapeutic interventions to prevent or control cardiovascular disease. These studies also establish novel techniques to examine individual bonds, molecules and fibers.
This paper offers a case study of individual family‐focused work with a non‐binary identified person who is working on identity formation, ongoing suicidality, and difficulties with intimate ...relationships. Using a combination of psychoanalytic and systemic models, issues of power, control and attachment are addressed as important to understanding intergenerational trauma. While M has always had difficulty identifying as female, the many layers of their struggle for control of a life separate from their family have impacted M’s development and current life circumstances. Much of our work has to do with separating out what they carry that is theirs from what they are carrying for prior generations of their family.
Practitioner points
Individual family‐focused work is a treatment of choice with certain clients, particularly when there has been a history of trauma
Psychoanalytic and systemic models of treatment can be combined to deliver what is helpful to the client/client system
Trauma is said to be transmitted intergenerationally through nature and/or nurture
Power, control, narrative and attachment are significant elements of trauma.

The essays in Killing Women: The Visual Culture of Gender and Violence find important connections in the ways that women are portrayed in relation to violence, whether they are murder victims or ...killers. The book's extensive cultural contexts acknowledge and engage with contemporary theories and practices of identity politics and debates about the ethics and politics of representation itself. Does representation produce or reproduce the conditions of violence? Is representation itself a form of violence? This book adds significant new dimensions to the characterization of gender and violence by discussing nationalism and war, feminist media, and the depiction of violence throughout society.
We know little about the safety or efficacy of pharmacological medicines for children and adolescents with chronic pain, despite their common use. Our aim was to conduct an overview review of ...systematic reviews of pharmacological interventions that purport to reduce pain in children with chronic noncancer pain (CNCP) or chronic cancer-related pain (CCRP). We searched the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Medline, EMBASE, and DARE for systematic reviews from inception to March 2018. We conducted reference and citation searches of included reviews. We included children (0-18 years of age) with CNCP or CCRP. We extracted the review characteristics and primary outcomes of ≥30% participant-reported pain relief and patient global impression of change. We sifted 704 abstracts and included 23 systematic reviews investigating children with CNCP or CCRP. Seven of those 23 reviews included 6 trials that involved children with CNCP. There were no randomised controlled trials in reviews relating to reducing pain in CCRP. We were unable to combine data in a meta-analysis. Overall, the quality of evidence was very low, and we have very little confidence in the effect estimates. The state of evidence of randomized controlled trials in this field is poor; we have no evidence from randomised controlled trials for pharmacological interventions in children with cancer-related pain, yet cannot deny individual children access to potential pain relief.
