Review of the international literature and ...research studies. hCG and its receptor, LH/CGR, are expressed in numerous sites of the reproductive tract, both in gonadal and extra-goanadal tissues, promoting oocyte maturation, fertilization, implantation and early embryo development. Moreover, hCG seems to have a potential role as an anti-rejection agent in solid organ transplantation. Future research needs to focus extensively on the functions of hCG and its receptor LH/CGR, in an effort to reveal known, as well as unknown clinical potentials.

One hundred six children conceived after classic IVF and 68 age-matched spontaneously conceived controls, aged 4-14 years.
Children underwent physical examination and morning fasting samples were collected.
Lipid profile, circulating fasting glucose, insulin, leptin, adiponectin, high-sensitivity interleukin-6, and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein were determined and the fasting glucose-to-insulin ratio was calculated.
Children born as a result of classic IVF had significantly higher systolic and diastolic blood pressures (BP) and triglycerides than controls. These BP differences remained significant even after correction for birth size and multiple births. No significant differences in biochemical indices of insulin resistance, circulating adipokines, and inflammatory markers were detected before or after these same corrections.
Despite an increase of BP, children born as a result of IVF have no biochemical evidence of insulin resistance, including fasting glucose-to-insulin ratio and circulating adipokines, or low-grade chronic inflammation. However, the long-term impact of periconceptual manipulations should be closely monitored.
Purpose
Considering the insufficient evidence supporting an ideal protocol for poor responder management in IVF/ICSI cycles, the aim of the current meta-analysis was to compare GnRH-antagonist versus ...GnRH-agonist protocols in poor responders, evaluating effectiveness and safety.
Methods
Meta-analysis was conducted using Medcalc 16.8 version software. Standardized mean differences (SMD), odds ratios (OR), and the respective 95% confidence intervals (CI) were determined appropriately. The Cochran

statistic and the

test were used to assess studies’ heterogeneity.
Results
GnRH-agonists were shown to correlate with fewer cancelled IVF/ICSI cycles (
p
= 0.044, OR = 1.268 > 1, 95% CI 1.007, 1.598), a larger number of embryos transferred (
p
= 0.008, SMD = − 0.230, 95% CI − 0.400, − 0.0599), and more clinical pregnancies (
p
= 0.018, OR = 0.748 < 1, 95% CI 0.588, 0.952). However, GnRH-antagonists resulted in a significantly shorter duration of ovarian stimulation (
p
= 0.007, SMD = − 0.426. 95% CI − 0.736, − 0.115). The number of oocytes and mature oocytes retrieved in both protocols did not differ statistically (
p
= 0.216, SMD = − 0.130, 95% CI − 0.337, 0.0763 and
p
= 0.807, SMD = − 0.0203, 95% CI − 0.183, 0.142, respectively). Moreover, a high heterogeneity among studies was observed regarding duration of ovarian stimulation (

Conclusions
Based on the present meta-analysis, agonist protocols could be suggested as a first choice approach, in terms of effectiveness. Due to the high studies’ heterogeneity, results should be considered with caution. Accordingly, larger cohort studies and meta-analyses like the present one will enhance the robustness of the emerging results to identify the ideal protocol for poor responders.
A systematic review and meta-analysis was undertaken to assess the efficacy and safety of intravaginal energy-based therapies (laser and radiofrequency) on sexual health of cancer survivors (CS) ...(breast cancer (BCS) and/or gynecological cancer (GCS)). PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library were searched until 21/02/2019. Quality of reporting, methodology, and body of evidence were assessed using STROBE, MINORS, and GRADE. Primary outcomes were dyspareunia, dryness, and sexual health (FSFI, FSDS-R). Secondary outcomes were burning, itching, dysuria, incontinence, Vaginal Health Index Score (VHIS), microbiome-cytokine evaluation, and adverse events. Main analyses, subgroup analyses, and sensitivity analyses were performed. Eight observational studies (

= 274) were eligible for inclusion. None of the studies evaluated radiofrequency. BCS and BCS-GCS were included in 87% and 13% of studies, respectively. All primary outcomes improved significantly with the exception of FSDS-R (dyspareunia (5 studies (

Intravaginal laser therapies appear to have a positive effect on dyspareunia, vaginal dryness, and FSFI of CS. However, the quality of evidence is “very low,” with no data on intravaginal radiofrequency therapy. Further research with high-quality RCTs and long-term follow-up is needed to evaluate the value of energy-based devices as a therapeutic option for CS with sexual problems.
Studies on individual types of gynecological cancers (GCs), utilizing novel expression technologies, have revealed specific pathogenetic patterns and gene markers for cervical (CC), endometrial (EC) ...and vulvar cancer (VC). Although the clinical phenotypes of the three types of gynecological cancers are discrete, the fact they originate from a common embryological origin, has led to the hypothesis that they might share common features reflecting regression to early embryogenesis. To address this question, we performed a comprehensive comparative analysis of their profiles. Our data identified both common features (pathways and networks) and novel distinct modules controlling the same deregulated biological processes in all three types. Specifically, four novel transcriptional modules were discovered regulating cell cycle and apoptosis. Integration and comparison of our data with other databases, led to the identification of common features among cancer types, embryonic stem (ES) cells and the newly discovered cell population of squamocolumnar (SC) junction of the cervix, considered to host the early cancer events. Conclusively, these data lead us to propose the presence of common features among gynecological cancers, other types of cancers, ES cells and the pre-malignant SC junction cells, where the novel E2F/NFY and MAX/CEBP modules play an important role for the pathogenesis of gynecological carcinomas.
The evolution of the field of assisted reproduction technology (ART) in the last 40 years has significantly contributed to the management of global infertility. Despite the great numbers of live ...births that have been achieved through ART, there is still potential for increasing the success rates. As a result, there is a need to create optimum conditions in order to increase ART efficacy. The selection of the best sperm, oocyte, and embryo, as well as the achievement of optimal endometrial receptivity, through the contribution of new diagnostic and treatment methods, based on a personalized proteomic approach, may assist in the attainment of this goal. Proteomics represent a powerful new technological development, which seeks for protein biomarkers in human tissues. These biomarkers may aid to predict the outcome, prevent failure, and monitor in a personalized manner in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles. In this review, we will present data from studies that have been conducted in the search for such biomarkers in order to identify proteins related to good sperm, oocyte, and embryo quality, as well as optimal endometrial receptivity, which may later lead to greater results and the desirable ART outcome.

The present retrospective study was conducted in a private IVF Unit setting throughout a 10-month period from October 2021 to July 2022, and included the analysis of 429 embryos deriving from 91 IVF/ICSI cycles conducted due to infertility of various etiologies. Embryos incubated at the Embryoscope
timelapse incubator were analyzed through the established scoring systems: KIDScore and iDAScore®. The main outcome measure was the comparison of the two scoring systems in terms of live birth prediction. Embryos with the higher scores at day 5 (KID5 score/iDA5 score) were transferred or cryopreserved for later use.
Embryos with high KID5 and iDA5 scores positively correlated with the probability of successful live birth, with KID5 score yielding a higher efficiency in predicting a successful reproductive outcome compared to a proportionally high iDA5 score. KID5 demonstrated conservative performance in successfully predicting live birth compared to iDA5 score, indicating that an efficient prediction can be either provided by a relatively lower KID5 score or a relatively higher iDA5 score.
The developed artificial intelligence tools should be implemented in clinical practice in conjunction with the conventional morphological assessment for the conduction of optimized embryo transfer in terms of a successful live birth.
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are a very important adult stem cell population with a multitude of potential applications in regenerative medicine. The thorough characterization of the bone marrow MSC ...(BM-MSC) population derived from the BALB/c species was essential, considering the significance of the murine model amongst animal models. In the present study, we examined the effect of gender, age, and in vitro culture on the basic properties (proliferation, differentiation, and immunosuppressive potential) of BM-MSCs. We found a decline in the progenitor frequencies from the BM of adult mice, lower MSC frequencies in all female donors, and an increase in the BM-MSC proliferation rate upon in vitro propagation. We also examined BM-MSCs for the expression of the 3 major embryonic stem cell transcription factors, Oct3/4, Sox-2, and Nanog, as well as 2 mRNA binding proteins, coding region determinant binding protein/insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA binding protein 1 (Crd-bp/Imp1) and Deleted in azoospermia-like (Dazl), which are expressed in primitive stem cells, umbilical cord blood-hematopoietic stem cells and amniotic fluid stem cells, respectively. Further, it has been reported that these 2 genes are critical for embryonic development. In this study, therefore, we report, for the first time, the expression of Crd-bp/Imp1 and Dazl in BM-MSCs. Dazl, Oct3/4, and Sox2 were detected in relatively low levels in contrast to Crd-bp/Imp1, its major target c-Myc, as well as Nanog, which were expressed redundantly, irrespective of sex, donor age, or in vitro passaging. These findings could further support the extrinsic theory of aging of the MSC population and the potential implication of embryonic genes in adult stem cell physiology.
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is defined as impaired glucose tolerance with onset or first recognition during pregnancy, which is characterized by an increased insulin resistance. Gestational ...diabetes mellitus is associated with pregnancy-related maternal and fetal morbidity (both antenatal and perinatal). Myo-inositol has been suggested to improve insulin resistance in women with polycystic ovary syndrome. The aim of this study is to examine the impact of myo-inositol supplementation during pregnancy on the incidence of gestational diabetes mellitus.
We will conduct a single-center, open-label, randomized controlled trial. A total of 160 healthy pregnant women with singleton pregnancy at 11-13
weeks of gestation will be randomly allocated in two groups: intervention group (N = 80) and control group (N = 80). The intervention group will receive myo-inositol and folic acid (4000 mg myo-inositol and 400 mcg folic acid daily) from 11 to 13
weeks of gestation until 26-28 weeks of gestation, while the control group will receive folic acid alone (400 mcg folic acid daily) for the same period of time as intervention group. The primary outcome will be gestational diabetes incidence rate at 26-28 weeks of gestation, according to the results of a 75 g oral glucose tolerance test held at 26-28 weeks of gestation. The secondary outcomes will include fasting blood glucose levels, glycated hemoglobin levels, insulin resistance level (evaluated by homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance and Matsuda Index), and incidence rate of diet-treated gestational diabetes and diabetes requiring insulin therapy at 26-28 weeks of gestation.
This trial will provide evidence for the effectiveness of myo-inositol supplementation during pregnancy in reducing the incidence of gestational diabetes mellitus.
