. Intense charged secondary beams were produced by 800
GeV/
c protons and momentum selected by a magnetic channel. Decay products were detected in a large-acceptance, high-rate magnetic spectrometer using multiwire proportional chambers, trigger hodoscopes, a hadronic calorimeter, and a muon-detection system. Nearly identical acceptances and efficiencies for hyperons and antihyperons decaying within an evacuated volume were achieved by reversing the polarities of the channel and spectrometer magnets. A high-rate data-acquisition system enabled 231 billion events to be recorded in 12 months of data-taking.
To assess the factor structure of the Chinese version of the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK).
Chinese patients with chronic pain attending either orthopaedic specialist services (n = 216) or ...multidisciplinary specialist pain services (n = 109) participated in this study.
Subjects completed the Chinese version of TSK, The Chronic Pain Grade Questionnaire, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, and questions assessing socio-demographic characteristics. Confirmatory factor analyses were used to compare hierarchical and correlated models of 5 different factor solutions previously reported in patients with chronic pain in the West.
Confirmatory factor analyses demonstrated inequality of the TSK factor structure, in that the TSK11 for the orthopaedics sample was best represented by a two-factor correlated model (S-Bchi2 = 49.593; comparative fit index (CFI) = 0.93; normed filt index (NFI) = 0.911; root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA) = 0.025) comprising 2 first-order factors, Somatic Focus (TSK11-SF) and Activity Avoidance (TSK-AA). The pain clinic sample showed a one-factor structure as best representing the TSK4's underlying dimensions (CFI = 0.971; NFI = 0.912; RMSEA = 0.048). There was no evidence to support a single overarching concept of kinesiophobia.
The TSK appears to have utility in Chinese chronic pain populations. Elucidation of the TSK's psychometrics properties in other Chinese/Asian pain populations with different diagnoses and presentations of pain problems is warranted.

We developed a highly sensitive, reliable and portable automatic system (H3) to monitor the radon concentration of the underground experimental halls of the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment. H3 ...is able to measure radon concentration with a statistical error less than 10% in a 1-h measurement of dehumidified air (R.H. 5% at 25°C) with radon concentration as low as 50Bq/m3. This is achieved by using a large radon progeny collection chamber, semiconductor α-particle detector with high energy resolution, improved electronics and software. The integrated radon monitoring system is highly customizable to operate in different run modes at scheduled times and can be controlled remotely to sample radon in ambient air or in water from the water pools where the antineutrino detectors are being housed. The radon monitoring system has been running in the three experimental halls of the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment since November 2013.
The second and final version of ColdADC, called ColdADC_P2, is presented. ColdADC_P2 is a 16-channel, 12-bit, 2 MS/s digitizer application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) intended for use inside ...the DUNE Far Detector. ColdADC_P2 contains two 16 MS/s pipelined analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) that each digitizes the output of eight sample-and-hold amplifiers (SHAs). Because the application requires immersion in liquid argon (LAr), ColdADC_P2 was developed using specialized design techniques for long-term reliability in cryogenic environments and a customized cryogenic standard cell library. ColdADC_P2, with a die area of approximately 52.4 mm 2 and fabricated in 65-nm CMOS technology, achieves 130-<inline-formula> <tex-math notation="LaTeX">\mu \text{V} </tex-math></inline-formula> rms noise performance and 11.8-bit effective-number-of-bits (ENOB) at a temperature of 77 K, with channel-to-channel crosstalk of < 0.06% while dissipating 338 mW (21 mW per channel). Residual nonlinearity that is consistent with dielectric absorption in the capacitors internal to the ADC is corrected using a lookup table.
With recent successes in gene therapy trials for hemophilia and retinal diseases, the promise and prospects for gene therapy are once again garnering significant attention. To build on this momentum, ...the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke and the Muscular Dystrophy Association jointly hosted a workshop in April 2014 on "Best Practices for Gene Therapy Programs," with a focus on neuromuscular disorders. Workshop participants included researchers from academia and industry as well as representatives from the regulatory, legal, and patient advocacy sectors to cover the gamut from preclinical optimization to intellectual property concerns and regulatory approval. The workshop focused on three key issues in the field: (1) establishing adequate scientific premise for clinical trials in gene therapy, (2) addressing regulatory process issues, and (3) intellectual property and commercialization issues as they relate to gene therapy. The outcomes from the discussions at this workshop are intended to provide guidance for researchers and funders in the gene therapy field.
Using data collected with the HyperCP (E871) spectrometer during the 1997 fixed-target run at Fermilab, we report the first observation of the decay K--->pi(-)mu(+)mu(-) and new measurements of the ...branching ratios for K+/--->pi(+/-)mu(+)mu(-). By combining the branching ratios for the decays K+-->pi(+)mu(+)mu(-) and K--->pi(-)mu(+)mu(-), we measure Gamma(K+/--->pi(+/-)mu(+)mu(-))/Gamma(K+/--->all) = (9.8+/-1.0+/-0.5)x10(-8). The CP asymmetry between the rates of the two decay modes is Gamma(K+-->pi(+)mu(+)mu(-))-Gamma(K--->pi(-)mu(+)mu(-))/Gamma(K+-->pi(+)mu(+)mu(-))+Gamma(K--->pi(-)mu(+)mu(-)) = -0.02+/-0.11+/-0.04.
Abstract Strontium-containing hydroxyapatite/polyetheretherketone (Sr-HA/PEEK) composites were developed as alternative materials for load-bearing orthopaedic applications. The amount of ...strontium-containing hydroxyapatite (Sr-HA) incorporated into polyetheretherketone (PEEK) polymer matrix ranged from 15 to 30 vol% and the composites were successfully fabricated by compression molding technique. This study presents the mechanical properties and in vitro human osteoblast-like cell (MG-63) response of the composite material developed. The bending modulus and strength of Sr-HA/PEEK composites were tailored to mimic human cortical bone. PEEK reinforced with 25 and 30 vol% Sr-HA exhibited bending modulus of 9.6 and 10.6 GPa, respectively; alternatively, the bending strengths of the composites were 93.8 and 89.1 MPa, respectively. Based on the qualitative comparison of apatite formation in SBF and quantitative measurement of MG-63-mediated mineralization in vitro , the Sr-HA/PEEK composite was proven to outperform HA/PEEK in providing bioactivity. However, no difference was found in the trend of cell proliferation and alkaline phosphatase activity between different composites. Strontium, in the form of strontium-containing hydroxyapatite (Sr-HA), was confirmed to enhance bioactivity in the PEEK composites.
Based on 1.35 x 10(6) polarized Xi(-) events, we measure the parameter phi(Xi) to be -1.61 degrees +/-2.66 degrees +/-0.37 degrees for the Xi(-)-->Lambda pi(-) decay. New results for the parameters ...beta(Xi) and gamma(Xi) are also presented. Assuming that the CP-violating phase difference is negligible, we deduce the strong phase difference between the P-wave and S-wave amplitudes of the Lambda pi final state to be 3.17 degrees +/-5.28 degrees +/-0.73 degrees, reducing the uncertainty in estimating the level of CP violation in Xi-hyperon decay.
