Abstract
We present an analysis of photometric observations of the eclipsing novalike variable DW UMa made by the CBA consortium between 1999 and 2015. Analysis of 372 new and 260 previously ...published eclipse timings reveals a 13.6 yr period or quasi-period in the times of minimum light. The seasonal light curves show a complex spectrum of periodic signals: both positive and negative ‘superhumps’, likely arising from a prograde apsidal precession and a retrograde nodal precession of the accretion disc. These signals appear most prominently and famously as sidebands of the orbital frequency; but the precession frequencies themselves, at 0.40 and 0.22 cycles per day, are also seen directly in the power spectrum. The superhumps are sometimes seen together, and sometimes separately. The depth, width and skew of eclipses are all modulated in phase with both nodal and apsidal precession of the tilted and eccentric accretion disc. The superhumps, or more correctly the precessional motions that produce them, may be essential to understanding the mysterious ‘SW Sextantis’ syndrome. Disc wobble and eccentricity can both produce Doppler signatures inconsistent with the true dynamical motions in the binary, and disc wobble might boost the mass-transfer rate by enabling the hot white dwarf to directly irradiate the secondary star.

The largest series in the literature dealing with redo fundoplication was presented and published in 1999 and included 100 patients. Herein we update this initial series of 100, with 207 additional ...patients who have undergone redo fundoplication (n = 307).
Increasing numbers of patients are failing esophagogastric fundoplication and requiring redo procedures. Data regarding the nature of these failures have been scant.
Data on all patients undergoing foregut surgery are collected prospectively. Between 1991 and 2004, 307 patients underwent redo fundoplication for the management of anatomic complications or recurrent GERD. Statistical analysis was performed with multiple chi2 and Mann-Whitney U analyses, as well as ANOVA.
Between 1991 and 2004, 1892 patients underwent primary fundoplication for GERD (1734) or paraesophageal hernia (158). Of these, 54 required redo fundoplication (2.8%). The majority of failures (73%) were managed within 2 years of the initial operation (P = 0.0001). The mechanism of failure was transdiaphragmatic wrap herniation in 33 of 54 (61%). In the 231 patients who underwent fundoplication elsewhere, 109 had transdiaphragmatic herniation (47%, P = NS). In this group of 285 patients, 22 (8%) required another redo (P = NS). The majority of the procedures were initiated laparoscopically (240/307, 78%), with 20 converted (8%). Overall mortality was 0.3%.
Failure of fundoplication is unusual in experienced hands. Most are managed within 2 years of the initial operation. Wrap herniation has now become the most common mechanism of failure requiring redo. Redo fundoplication was successful in 93% of patients, and most could be safely handled laparoscopically.

The effects of ultrasound on the hetero- and homo-Diels- Alder reactions have been investigated varying ultrasonic source and solvent. Irradiation enhances both reactions minimally; however, while ...this appears to be due to cavitation in the homo Diels-Alder reaction, mechanical mixing appears to be the cause in the hetero-Diels-Alder reaction.
This study compared differential effects of behavioral therapy and triazolam in a clinical population with sleep-onset insomnia. Triazolam was hypothesized to decrease sleep latency and frequency and ...duration of awakening, with some effects during the first night's administration. But at follow-up, sleep measures were predicted to return to baseline levels. Behavioral treatment was hypothesized to effect sleep after 2 or more weeks of training which persisted at follow-up.
Thirty patients with average sleep latencies of 81.48 minutes, who reported chronic insomnia for an average of 2.6 years, were randomly assigned to one of two treatment groups: behavioral stimulus control/relaxation training and triazolam.
Both treatments decreased sleep latency but differentially. Triazolam was effective immediately but maintained only some gains at follow-up. Behavioral treatment decreased sleep latency beginning the second week, when subjects expected no improvement, with gains maintained at follow-up. Comparisons showed that triazolam group latencies returned toward baseline, while behavioral group gains were maintained at follow-up.
Triazolam treatment showed superior immediate treatment effects, while behavioral treatment showed superior treatment effects at follow-up, effects that accrued during the training period and differentially persisted at follow-up. One treatment strategy implied by these results would be to combine these two interventions concurrently. This would seem to use the immediate effects produced by the medication until the behavioral skills were learned, at which point medication would be terminated. This strategy could offer immediate relief and sustained effects at drug termination.
Indicine-N-oxide was analyzed quantitatively in biological samples using a direct partial purification method involving acetonitrite precipitation or methanol precipitation followed by ion exchange ...chromatography. Trimethylsilyl derivatization of the resultant provided either of two derivatives, depending on the reaction conditions used, both of which had good gas chromatographic qualities. Heliotrine-N-oxide was used as the internal standard for this work. Data are presented to show that this is a reliable and useful internal standard based on its behavior in the partial purification method and on the gas chromatographic characteristics of its two derivatives. In addition, both low and high resolution mass spectral data indicate that heliotrine-N-oxide produces two trimethylsilyl derivatives analogous to those produced by indicine-N-oxide under the same conditions. Application of this procedure to urine and blood samples from cancer patients in clinical trials indicates that over 95% of the drug is removed from the circulation and excreted in the urine over the course of 48 h.

The Plate Boundary Observatory is being installed along the Pacific-North America plate boundary and when complete will add 875 new GPS sites and incorporate 209 existing GPS sites into the network. ...The GPS phase data from all these sites and an additional 40 sites to tie to the North America plate are analyzed by PBO analysis centers (ACs) at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NMT) and at Central Washington University (CWU). The results from the two ACs, which use different GPS data processing programs, are combined into PBO GPS products by the Analysis Center Coordinator (ACC) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Three levels of analysis are performed on the data: a 'rapid' analysis available with a 1-day latency; a 'final' analysis that uses IGS final orbit products and is available with a 6-13 day latency; and a 'supplemental' analysis that runs with 12-week latency and adds to the final analysis data from sites with late data retrieval. Results from these analyses in the form of velocity estimates, time series, and Solution Independent Exchange Format (SINEX) files that contain position and full covariance information are all available from http:pboweb.unavco.org/gps_data. The median root-mean-square (RMS) scatter of the daily estimates from currently about 800 stations in a North America fixed reference frame from the final analysis is 1.3 mm horizontal position and 4.0 mm in vertical position. We discuss the results being obtained from the PBO analyses and the methods used to process the GPS data from this network.
