We have performed fits of the pseudoscalar masses and decay constants, from a variety of the RBC-UKQCD Collaboration's domain wall fermion ensembles, to SU(2) partially quenched chiral perturbation ...theory at next-to-leading order (NLO) and next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO). We report values for nine NLO and eight linearly independent combinations of NNLO partially quenched low-energy constants, which we compare to other lattice and phenomenological determinations. We discuss the size of successive terms in the chiral expansion and use our large set of low-energy constants to make predictions for mass splittings due to QCD isospin-breaking effects and the S-wave pipi scattering lengths. We conclude that, for the range of pseudoscalar masses explored in this work, 115MeV <, ~ m sub(PS) <, ~ 430MeV, the NNLO SU(2) expansion is quite robust and can fit lattice data with percent-scale accuracy.
As an alternative to standard metal cans, 2 large, reusable containers with volumetric capacities 3.6 to 3.8 times larger than a standard #10 can were constructed of nickel‐plated steel. Process ...times and cold point determinations were previously determined using mathematical approximations of heat‐penetration data. It was necessary to verify the adequacy of these process times using inoculated containers. Because it was impractical to use traditional inoculated can procedures, a modification was developed using spores of Clostridium sporogenes PA3679 immobilized in alginate beads contained in brass tubes. Adequacy of the calculated thermal processes was demonstrated; no viable anaerobic spores survived in the inoculated packs.
As an alternative to standard metal cans, 2 large‐scale, reusable containers were constructed with volumetric capacities 3.6 to 3.8 times greater and process times 1.36 to 2.05 times longer than a nr ...10 can. Effects of increased process time on product quality were measured by conducting objective color and texture evaluations on green beans and pinto beans canned in both containers. Green beans and pinto beans had comparable texture profiles to beans processed conventionally in nr 10 cans. The color of green beans also was comparable; the color of pinto beans was darker, possibly due to contact with the metal container. Color and texture differences were minimal between inner and outer product layers.
The concept of a risk related value of the spend for saving a statistical life (VSSSL) is advanced for use in cost-benefit studies across the power generation sector, and the nuclear industry in ...particular. For illustrative purposes, a best estimate VSSSL is set based on HSE guidance at 2 M pounds. Above a risk of 10(-3) y(-1) it is assumed that the VSSSL may approach this maximum sustainable value. As the risk reduces so does the VSSSL. At a risk level of 10(-6) y(-1) a VSSSL of 0.5 M pounds is applied. For risks below 10(-9) y(-1) the value of further risk reduction approaches zero, although a nominal VSSSL of 10 k pounds is applied as a pragmatic way forward in this study. The implications of adopting this concept as an aid to decision making in determining the spend on radiological dose reduction measures are illustrated through a worked example with a banded approach to estimating collective dose.

The quark–gluon plasma (QGP), the deconfined high-temperature phase of QCD, is currently under extensive investigation in heavy-ion collision experiments at RHIC and LHC. The transition from the ...hadronic, low-temperature phase to the QGP is a rapid crossover, manifested by a significant change in bulk thermodynamic quantities. A fundamental characteristics of QCD is the equation of state, which is also an essential ingredient of hydrodynamic modeling of heavy-ion collisions.
We report our final result 1 for the 2+1 flavor QCD equation of state in the continuum limit. We calculate the pressure, energy density and other thermodynamic quantities in the experimentally relevant temperature range 130–400 MeV. We use the highly improved staggered quark (HISQ) action with the Goldstone pion mass tuned to about 160 MeV in the continuum limit. To perform the continuum extrapolation we use lattices with temporal extent Nτ=6,8,10 and 12.
The expansion of women in the military is reshaping the veteran population, with women now constituting the fastest growing segment of eligible VA health care users. In recognition of the changing ...demographics and special health care needs of women, the VA Office of Research & Development recently sponsored the first national VA Women's Health Research Agenda‐setting conference to map research priorities to the needs of women veterans and position VA as a national leader in Women's Health Research. This paper summarizes the process and outcomes of this effort, outlining VA's research priorities for biomedical, clinical, rehabilitation, and health services research.
