Simulations of elastoinertial turbulence (EIT) of a polymer solution at low Reynolds number are shown to display localized polymer stretch fluctuations. These are very similar to structures arising ...from linear stability (Tollmien-Schlichting (TS) modes) and resolvent analyses: i.e., critical-layer structures localized where the mean fluid velocity equals the wavespeed. Computation of self-sustained nonlinear TS waves reveals that the critical layer exhibits stagnation points that generate sheets of large polymer stretch. These kinematics may be the genesis of similar structures in EIT.
Much of the theoretical and conceptual writing on the use of figurative language in psychotherapy has stressed the important role that this language plays in facilitating change. A review of the ...empirical literature indicates that, although frequent calls have been made to investigate the change-producing effects of metaphor, we have yet to elucidate these effects through empirical research, to suggest that this domain of inquiry be left to theorists and clinicians and that empirical researchers concentrate their efforts on investigating questions that are amenable to empirical research. Some possible avenues include the study of clients' "key metaphors" as markers of change (Siegelman, 1990) and the conceptualizing of those domains of figurative language that are predominant in psychotherapy, specifically, metaphors of. self, self-other relationships, emotion, and cognitive-affective-behavioral states.
(b Ahorn, nr Coburg, bap. Oct 19, 1684; d Strasbourg, Nov 9, 1754). Alsatian composer and poet. Nothing is known about the circumstances which led Frauenholtz to Strasbourg, where he matriculated at ...the university as a law student on 6 October 1710. In 1713 he directed a cycle of his cantatas at the Aurelian-Kirche and the following year he assumed the most important musical positions in Strasbourg, director of music for the city and Kapellmeister of the Neue Kirche. As Kapellmeister he oversaw the music at all seven Protestant churches in the city. He also held the posts, as was the custom, of maître de chapelle at the Temple Neuf and director of municipal concerts from 1727 until his death. On 18 February 1722 he married Maria Elizabeth Emmerich of Strasbourg. Frauenholtz undoubtedly had contact with Andreas, Gottfried and J.A. Silbermann and he may even have served as consultant to their work. He directed the music for the dedication of the Silbermann organ at St Thomas in ...
