This study was performed to evaluate the feasibility and utility of a transthoracic high frequency transducer to detect and measure the left anterior descending coronary artery flow in patients with ...lesions in this artery or anterior myocardial infarction.
We studied 11 subjects with lesions greater than 75% and another 10 with anterior myocardial infarction. We compared the results with a control group of 18 subjects. An ATL HDI 5000 ultrasound unit with a 5-8 MHz transducer was used to identify the left anterior descending in the anterior interventricular sulcus from an apical four chamber window. We considered that left anterior descending was detected when a diastolic predominant flow pattern was obtained with pulse Doppler.
Left anterior descending was detected in 37/39 of cases (94.4%). Patients with coronary lesions showed a decrease in the limit of significance in the diastolic/systolic peak velocity ratios: 2.5 (SD 0.7) vs 1.8 (SD 0.3) with a p = 0.024. Patients with anterior myocardial infarction obtained lower diastolic/systolic peak velocity ratios than controls: 2.5 (SD 0.7) vs 1.4 (SD 0.3) with a p = 0.001.
Left anterior descending coronary artery flow can be assessed by transthoracic high frequency echocardiography in greater than 90% of the cases. Patients with coronary lesions and those with anterior myocardial infarction have a decreased diastolic/systolic peak velocity ratio.
The influence of hydrocortisone acetate treatment (4 mg/100 g body weight i.m. and daily injected) was studied in pregnant rats and their litters. The parameters controlled were: food intake, body ...weight and body nitrogen, and liver enzimatic activity of PEPCK, in the mothers and number of foetus, weight, body nitrogen content and liver PEPCK activity in the litter. The hormonal treatment induces a significant reduction of food intake and weight of the mothers. In the same way the total body nitrogen content, is reduced but not its concentration (body nitrogen content/g body weight). Likewise, cortisone injection reduces the number of newborns, and, significantly, the individual weight of the same. At the 21st gestation day, the nitrogen content of the litter, given by g of weight, is also significantly reduced. Liver activity of PEPCK was significantly increased in the pregnant rat in all days under study and was not detected in the foetus in the 21st day.
This Workshop brought top experts, researchers, postdocs, and students from high-energy heavy ion interactions, lattice QCD and hadronic physics communities together. YSTAR2016 discussed the impact ...of "missing" hyperon resonances on QCD thermodynamics, on freeze-out in heavy ion collisions, on the evolution of early universe, and on the spectroscopy of strange particles. Recent studies that compared lattice QCD predictions of thermodynamic properties of quark-gluon plasma at freeze-out with calculations based on statistical hadron resonance gas models as well as experimentally measured ratios between yields of different hadron species in heavy ion collisions provide indirect evidence for the presence of "missing" resonances in all of these contexts. The aim of the YSTAR2016 Workshop was to sharpen these comparisons and advance our understanding of the formation of strange hadrons from quarks and gluons microseconds after the Big Bang and in todays experiments at LHC and RHIC as well as at future facilities like FAIR, J-PARC and KL at JLab. It was concluded that the new initiative to create a secondary beam of neutral kaons at JLab will make a bridge between the hardron spectroscopy, heavy-ion experiments and lattice QCD studies addressing some major issues related to thermodynamics of the early universe and cosmology in general.
