To study the high-density nuclear equation-of-state in collisions between gold nuclei at Nuclotron beam energies (2–4.5 A GeV), the existing BM@N experiment at JINR in Dubna has to be substantially ...upgraded. The measurement of high-multiplicity events at interaction rates up to 5 MHz requires the installation of four large-aperture tracking stations equipped with double-sided micro-strip silicon sensors, which have been developed for the CBM experiment at FAIR. It has been demonstrated by simulations that the hybrid tracking system comprising four of such silicon stations (STS) situated in-front of seven GEM tracking detectors will be able to identify charged particles including hyperons emitted in Au + Au collisions with good efficiency and high signal-to-background ratio. The results of the simulations and the status of the STS detector development are presented.

Silicon Vertex Tracker (SVT) has been designed for the CLAS12 spectrometer using single-sided microstrip sensors fabricated by Hamamatsu Photonics. The sensors have a graded angle design to minimize ...dead areas and a readout pitch of 156 um, with intermediate strips. Each double-sided SVT module hosts three daisy-chained sensors on each side with a full strip length of 33 cm. There are 512 channels per module, read out by four Fermilab Silicon Strip Readout (FSSR2) chips, featuring data-driven architecture, mounted on a rigid–flex hybrid board. The modules are assembled in a barrel configuration using a unique cantilevered geometry to minimize the amount of material in the tracking volume. This paper is focused on the design, qualification of the performance, and experience in operating and commissioning the tracker during the first year of the data taking.
The NUCLEON experiment aims to study chemical composition and energy spectra of galactic cosmic rays for nuclei charges Z=1−30 and energies 1011−1015 eV. The research is conducted with the help of ...the NUCLEON scientific equipment installed on the Russian satellite “Resurs-P” No. 2 as an additional payload. This article describes the results of the first year of the space experiment NUCLEON, including methodological features of data acquisition mode setup, evaluation of the equipment’s performance and methods it provides, as well as preliminary results of data analysis.
Investigations of the readout electronics for the tracking system of the CLAS12 experiment have been performed for the last 2 years. The setup and physical problems of the CLAS12 experiment are ...described. The silicon detectors designed by the authors for the tracking system of the experiment are considered in brief. The electronic system contains the silicon microstrip detector and FSSR2 integrated circuit, which reads signals from the detector. The FSSR2 chip is described and the principles of the chip architecture intended for processing a time-variable data flow and experimental characteristics obtained on trials of the chip are set forth in brief. Results of simulating the chip throughput under loads expected for the physical experiment and experimental characteristics obtained on trials of this chip are described.
It is shown that the representation of neutron-irradiation-produced defects in the form of divacancy D clusters with a tetravacancy core adequately describes the observed neutron-irradiation-produced ...effects in float-zone silicon. It is also predicted that the complete-depletion voltage decreases for a dopant concentration exceeding a critical value; this decrease is due to “contraction” of the outer region of the cluster’s space charge. The magnitude of the expected effect is determined by the factor ∼1−(rn/rcl)3−1, where rn and rcl are the radii of the core and cluster, respectively.

The main purpose of the NUCLEON experiment is direct measurements of the energy spectra of cosmic rays in the range 1011–1015 eV with the use of the lightweight facility during a prolonged orbital ...flight. The energy is determined using a technique based on the measurement of the spatial density of secondary particles produced in the initial event of inelastic interaction. The schematic diagram of the NUCLEON facility, the current status of the project, the results of testing the prototype, and plans are presented.
After smoking "crack," the free-base form of cocaine, a 27-year-old man suffered an infarction of most of the territory of the right middle cerebral artery. Concomitant drug use seemed to have been ...limited to ethanol and ibuprofen. Search for other possible causes was negative. Angiography revealed narrowing of the supraclinoid portion of the right internal carotid artery (ICA) and cutoff of at least two distal branches. There was no beading or irregularity to suggest vasculitis. Crack may have induced vasospasm in the ICA through recognized sympathomimetic actions of cocaine.
