The authors evaluated the possible association between dietary history and plasma clastogenic factors in children who immigrated to Israel between 1989 and 1993 from regions contaminated by the ...Chernobyl accident. The authors compared questionnaire data about demographic variables, dietary histories before and after immigration occurred, and health status with clastogenic factor scores for 162 immigrants. Logistic regression analysis revealed a negative association between clastogenic factor scores and frequency of consumption of fresh vegetables and fruit among children ≤ 7 yr of age during the postimmigration period. Intake of eggs and fish by boys who were ≤ 7 yr of age prior to immigration was associated positively with clastogenic factor scores. Consumption of fresh vegetables and fruits afforded protection to the immune systems of children who were ≤ 7 yr of age.
Concurrent Engineering Research Center (CERC), under the sponsorship of NLM (National Library of Medicine) is in the process of developing a computerized patient record system for a clinical ...environment distributed in rural West Virginia. This realization of the CCN (Community Care Network), besides providing computer-based patient records accessible from a chain of clinics and one hospital, supports collaborative health care processes like referral and consulting. To evaluate the effectiveness of the system, a study was designed and is in the process of being executed. Three surveys were designed to provide subjective measures, and four experiments for collecting objective data. Data collection is taking place in several phases: baseline data are collected before the system is deployed; the process is repeated with minimal changes three, then six months later or as often as new versions of the system are installed. Results are then to be compared, using whenever possible matching techniques (i.e. the preliminary data collected on a provider will be matched with the data collected later on the same provider). Surveys are conducted through questionnaires distributed to providers and nurses and person-to-person interviews of the patients. The time spent on patient-chart related activities is measured by work-sampling, aided by a computer application running on a laptop PC. Information about missing patient record parts is collected by the providers, the frequency by which new features of the computerized system are used will be logged by the system itself and clinical outcome measures will be studied from the results of the clinics' own patient chart audits. Preliminary results of the surveys and plans for the immediate and distant future are discussed at the end of the paper.

The final equation is Faraday's Law for ideal MHD. The equation for the parallel momentum shows that motion in the parallel direction is independent of the other species. The term on the RHS is a phenomenological drag term added to allow for cases in which counter-streaming ions might produce plasma instabilities that couple different species together. It is similar to an anomalous resisitivity term added to the induction equation. In general, it is set explicity to zero. The perpendicular momentum equations state that all the species share the same acceleration in that direction. We apply this new code to simpified problems involving localized oxygen outflow from the ionosphere. We will discuss the trajecory of the outflowing oxygen and its subsequent convection and energization within the magnetosphere. We have developed a layered, component-based Secure Collaborative Telemedicine Architecture (SCTA) and its applications to three representative scenarios, which are being deployed in rural West ...Virginia. Our approach emphasizes maximum utilization of low-cost “off-the-shelf” technologies (lean technologies) and the use of “Smartcards” as a primary means for authenticating the providers and patients.
