Structural optimization by Finite Elements (FE) is proved very effective in tyre design. For that purpose, major tyre manufacturers use in-house applications. An alternative solution, involving ...dedicated CAD tyre model (DCTM), is here proposed. DCTM concept permits to easily change the FE tyre models, concerning shape and structure, by moving a part of pre-processing from FE analysis to CAD. No special skills regarding CAD or FEA are required. For every new tyre design, only a new DCTM and a corresponding FE model must be built. All subsequent model changes are automatically performed by mapping and translation routines. To test this concept, DTCM models of an existing tyre were created and used within a pilot design study.

Most certainly, in the field of medicine there is a great contribution of new techniques and technologies, which is reflected in an entire system of health care services. Customized implants are both ...fully geometrically and topologically adjusted so as to meet the needs of individual patients, thus making each implant unique. Their production requires joint efforts of a multidisciplinary team of different profile experts who combine their knowledge in the Implant knowledge model. Thus, we develop an expert system which should help or replace humans in the process of Implant material selection. This paper gives an overview of the expert system concept for the given problem. Its task is to carry out a selection of biomaterial (or class of material) for a customized implant. The model significantly improves the efficiency of preoperative planning in orthopaedics.
The adjustment of products to the needs of customers has been present in various industries for many years. Personalized medicine is a field that has been rapidly developing recently. This kind of ...medical help mainly implies the use of medications which are adjusted to each patient individually. In this paper, we describe an information system which manages the process of designing and manufacturing personalized products in the area of orthopaedics. The system output comprises patient-adjusted orthopaedic implants. In addition to the process management, the information system ought to enable the process to be adjusted to unexpected situations which may occur in different stages of designing and manufacturing. The information system should also assist doctors and engineers in the decision making process. This aid is realized in the form of the expert system which provides doctors and engineers with advice about defining an appropriate treatment for the patient.
In this paper a finite element method (FEM) based parametric design study of the tire profile shape and belt width is presented. One of the main obstacles that similar studies have faced is how to ...change the finite element mesh after a modification of the tire geometry is performed. In order to overcome this problem, a new approach is proposed. It implies automatic update of the finite elements mesh, which follows the change of geometric design parameters on a dedicated CAD model. The mesh update is facilitated by an originally developed mapping and translation code. In this way, the performance of a large number of geometrically different tire design variations may be analyzed in a very short time. Although a pilot one, the presented study has also led to the improvement of the existing tire design.
Computer-Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery (CAOS) defines a set of techniques that use computers and other devices for planning, guiding, and performing surgical interventions. The important components of ...CAOS are accurate geometrical models of human bones and plate implants, which can be used in preoperational planning or for surgical guiding during an intervention. Software framework which is introduced in this study is based on the Model-View-Controller (MVC) architectural pattern, and it uses 3D models of bones and plate implants developed by the application of the Method of Anatomical Features (MAF). The presented framework may be used for preoperative planning processes and for the production of personalized plate implants. The main idea of the research was to develop a novel integrated software framework which will provide improved personalized healthcare to the patient, and at the same time, provide the surgeon with more control over the patient’s treatment and recovery.
The efficiency and effectiveness of the daily practice in orthopedic surgery depend on the availability, interoperability and unique access to a wide set of information, related to the patient’s ...medical record and diagnosis, domain knowledge and available resources and staff. The most important of the tangible resources, needed for the therapeutic or preventive actions are orthopedic implants. In some cases, the implants may be highly complex and customized products, which need to be manufactured (assembled) on basis of the above information in a shortest possible timeframe. In this paper, the case of the custom orthopedic implants manufacturing is described from the perspective of the collaborative enterprising, with special consideration of the interoperability issues of the involved enterprise collaboration. It is shown how the previously developed Semantic Interoperability Framework can be used to improve the efficiency of the manufacturing and other relevant processes.
Geometrically accurate and anatomically correct threedimensional geometric
models of human bones or bone sections are essential for successful
pre-operative planning in orthopedic surgery. For such ...purposes, 3D polygonal
models of bones are usually created based on Computer Tomography (CT) or
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) data. In cases where there is no CT or MRI
scan, or part of bone is missing, such three-dimensional polygonal models are
difficult to create. In these situations predictive bone models are commonly
used. In this paper, the authors describe the developed a software system for
creation of Human Bones Customized Polygonal models (HBCP) which is based on
the use of the predictive parametric bone model. The software system enables
creation of patient-specific polygonal models of bones, by using only a
limited number of parameter values. Parameter values can be acquired from
volumetric medical imaging methods (CT, MRI), or from two-dimensional imaging
methods (i.e. Xray). This paper introduces the new approach to the process of
creation of human bones geometrical models which are based on the anatomical
landmark points. Testing of the HBCP for the cases of femur bone samples has
shown that created bone and bone region models are characterized by a good
level of anatomical and morphometric accuracy compared to the results
presented in similar researches.
The work describes the phases of the development of the information system on scientific activities covered by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of ...Serbia. The sequential phases of the project are: Recording data on scientific institutions, researchers, and research projects financed by the Ministry, Input and evaluation of the published results achieved in the research projects financed by the Ministry, Establishing electronic services for searching, presentation, and interoperability of data on scientific activity, and Generating various reports for the different needs related to scientific activities. The information requirements are listed and the system software architecture is described. The development of the system is based on the recommendations of the organization euroCRIS.
In this paper the method of semantic network analysis which enables semantic categorization of data in the network is presented. The main goal of network analysis is determination of the similarity ...of associations in semantic network based on similarity of attributes values of associations. The method allows highly efficient semantic categorization of new concepts, which does not depend on pre-planned inputs and predefined rules of deduction. Also, the concept allows different semantic interpretations of the same concept in different semantic contexts. As a specific example for demonstration of semantic categorization process, a part of mold manufacturing workflow was chosen.
