To evaluate the effect of different whole-corneal and whole-eye higher order aberrations (HOAs) on levels of axis discrepancy.
This was a retrospective study including healthy candidates for ...refractive surgery, with one eye being randomly selected. A total of 360 eyes were included. Whole-corneal and whole-eye HOAs were measured twice with a Pentacam AXL Wave (Oculus Optikgeräte GmbH), and subjective manifest refraction was obtained. Axis discrepancy was defined as the absolute difference between Total Corneal Refractive Power flat keratometry axis and manifest refractive axis. Two multiple linear regression models that sought to explore the effect of HOAs in predicting axis discrepancy while adjusting for corneal and refractive confounders were built.
Mean age was 29.1 ± 5.8 years and 63.9% of the patients were women. Mean manifest sphere and cylinder were -3.09 ± 2.36 and -1.45 ± 1.37 diopters (D), respectively. Mean cylinder axis discrepancy was 14.4 ± 14.5°. On multiple linear regression, the only variables significantly associated with axis discrepancy were corneal cylinder and corneal lower order aberrations
(5,339) = 29.746;
< .001; adjusted
= 0.295. Lower levels of corneal cylinder are by far the main contributor to astigmatism axis mismatch (ß = -1.164). There was not a single HOA, either corneal or ocular, that significantly loaded into any models.
Astigmatism axis mismatch decreases rapidly with increasing levels of corneal astigmatism. Corneal and whole-eye HOAs have no role in astigmatism axis mismatch in healthy candidates for refractive surgery.

Introducción: Las ciencias de la nutrición y los alimentos innovan en la industria elaborando productos con compuestos nutricionales que contribuyan a la resolución de problemáticas en salud pública. ...Pero, además de las características nutricionales, son importantes las características sensoriales, siendo un factor determinante en la aceptación de estos productos. Objetivo: Evaluar características fisicoquímicas, nutricionales y sensoriales de dos complementos alimenticios, tipo sopa y bebida achocolatada, desarrollados con biofortificación. Materiales y métodos: Se consideraron 3 fases, fase 1, preparación de dos tipos complementos alimenticios (4 formulaciones), usando la liofilización para la deshidratación de algunas materias primas, complementada con otras técnicas de procesamiento y cocción. Fase 2, evaluación sensorial por panel de expertos a través de prueba descriptiva cuantitativa y hedónica, y fase 3, caracterización bromatológica. El análisis de la información se realizó con el software Jamovi 2.3.21. mediante análisis descriptivo e inferencial. Resultados: El análisis sensorial evidenció que los alimentos que contiene corazón de res en un 5% fueron los más aceptados por los panelistas en todos los atributos sensoriales en ambos complementos. La caracterización bromatológica mostró que el complemento tipo bebida achocolatada con corazón es excelente fuente de proteína, zinc y calcio y buena fuente de hierro y vitamina E, mientras que, el complemento tipo sopa con corazón es excelente fuente de proteína, zinc, hierro, tiamina, omega 3, vitamina E y buena fuente de calcio de acuerdo con la normatividad colombiana de rotulado y etiquetado nutricional. Conclusiones: Ambos complementos con corazón mostraron una aceptación sensorial satisfactoria, presentaron una importante concentración de nutrientes, que, por su fuente natural y animal, son considerados de alta biodisponibilidad.
Purpose
The objective of this study was to determine the association between the presence of a microorganism resistant to the antibiotic used in empirical therapy and the development of ...intra-abdominal abscesses in children with perforated appendicitis.
Methods
A prospective cohort study was conducted in patients under 18 years of age who underwent laparoscopic appendectomy between November 1, 2019, and September 30, 2020, in whom perforated appendicitis was documented intraoperatively. Peritoneal fluid samples were taken for bacteria culture purposes, and clinical and microbiological data were collected from all patients.
Results
A total of 232 patients were included in the study. The most isolated microorganisms were
Escherichia coli
(
80.14%
) and
Pseudomonas aeruginosa
(7.45%). In addition, 5.31% of
E. coli
isolates were classified as ESBL-producing organisms. No association was found between a germ resistant to empiric antimicrobial therapy and the development of a postoperative intra-abdominal abscess. Multivariate analysis showed that being a high-risk patient on admission (OR 2.89 (
p
= 0.01)) was associated with the development of intra-abdominal abscesses postoperatively.
Conclusion
E. coli
was the most commonly isolated microorganism, with a low rate of ESBL-producing isolates. No association between resistance and risk of postoperative intra-abdominal abscess was found. However, it was identified that being a high-risk patient on admission was associated with this complication.

Universities should offer students academic programmes focused on the demands of the workplace for the acquisition of professional competences. The aim of this study was to find out and compare the ...perception of the degree of development and importance given to professional competences in the field of Physical Education (PE) of 176 Spanish university students according to their degree and previous and current work experience. An ad hoc questionnaire was used, consisting of 15 questions on work experience, knowledge of competences, importance and degree of development. Descriptive statistics were used for data analysis and for the comparison of variables, one-way ANOVA, post hoc Sheffe, and Student's t-test were used for analysis of variance or factor analysis. The main results indicated that the competences of problem solving, social skills and teamwork were the most important for the students, with teamwork being the most developed. The professional competences were perceived as satisfactory by the prospective teachers and PE teachers, with a significant imbalance between perceived importance and development in all the competences analysed, with the exception of teamwork in which they agreed as the most important and the most developed, with work in international contexts being the least valued. These results could provide information that would make it possible to bring the academic world and the professional world closer together in the field of the degrees analysed, in order to improve the employability of future graduates in the PE sector.
Las universidades deben ofrecer a los estudiantes programas académicos centrados en las demandas laborales para la adquisición de competencias profesionales. El objetivo de este estudio fue conocer y comparar la percepción del grado de desarrollo y de importancia otorgada a las competencias profesionales en el ámbito de la Educación Física (EF) de 176 estudiantes universitarios españoles según la titulación y experiencia laboral previa y actual. Se utilizó un cuestionario ad hoc, de 15 preguntas sobre experiencia laboral, conocimiento en competencias, importancia y grado de desarrollo. Para el análisis de datos se realizaron estadísticas descriptivas y para la comparación de variables, se utilizó el análisis de varianza o factor ANOVA unidireccional, post hoc Sheffe, y t de student. Los principales resultados indicaron que las competencias de resolución de problemas, habilidades sociales y trabajo en equipo fueron las más importantes para los estudiantes, siendo el trabajo en equipo la más desarrollada. Los futuros docentes y maestros de EF percibieron de forma satisfactoria las competencias profesionales, existiendo un desequilibrio significativo entre la importancia y el desarrollo percibido en todas las competencias analizadas, a excepción del trabajo en equipo en la cual coinciden como la más importante y la más desarrollada, siendo el trabajo en contextos internacionales la menos valorada. Estos resultados podrían aportar información que posibilite un acercamiento entre el mundo académico y el mundo profesional en el ámbito de las titulaciones analizadas, para así mejorar la empleabilidad de los futuros graduados en el sector de la EF.
This article presents an empirical and theoretical contribution to the existing firm internationalization literature, by providing an analysis of the internationalization process followed by the ...emerging country multinational SABMiller during the period 1993–2013. Its findings are based on a single type II case study, contributes to international business literature providing a theoretically founded analysis of internationalization of emerging market multinational. After analyzing SABMiller’s internationalization process to the light of different theoretical lenses of the internationalization theories it was found that the success of emerging markets multinationals depend of complementary characteristics between emerging world dynamics, and organizational innovations learnt and leverage at developed markets.

Polyaniline nanoparticles (PANI-Nps) have been used in several applications; however, there are few publications related to the use in the photothermal therapy. PANI-Nps have high optical absorbance ...in the near-infrared region and in this wavelength range, biological systems are relatively transparent. For this reason, these materials can be used to absorb energy and to generate heat that destroys cancer cells selectively. PANI-Nps with average size of ca. 200 nm and neutral zeta potential were synthesized and characterized by DLS, SEM, and zeta potential. The kinetics of incorporation of PANI-Nps into LM2 cell line was monitored using UV–Vis spectrophotometry. The analysis of cell viability after PANI-Nps exposure shows that these nanoparticles are not cytotoxic even at high concentration and show no change in cell morphology and metabolic activity. Furthermore, we found that nanoparticle cell uptake reaches the maximum value c.a. 3 h after incubation. Cells were targeted by Pani-Nps and irradiated, resulting in significant elevation of intracellular ROS and heat production. One of the mechanisms of PANI-Nps-mediated photothermal killing of cancer cells apparently involved oxidative stress resulting in apoptotic cell death.
