Early rehabilitation is indicated in critically ill adults to counter functional complications. However, the physiological response to rehabilitation is poorly understood. This study aimed to ...determine the cardiorespiratory response to rehabilitation and to investigate the effect of explanatory variables on physiological changes during rehabilitation and recovery.
In a prospectively planned, secondary analysis of a randomised controlled trial conducted in a tertiary, mixed intensive care unit (ICU), we analysed the 716 physiotherapy-led, pragmatic rehabilitation sessions (including exercise, cycling and mobilisation). Participants were previously functionally independent, mechanically ventilated, critically ill adults (n = 108). Physiological data (2-minute medians) were collected with standard ICU monitoring and indirect calorimetry, and their medians calculated for baseline (30min before), training (during physiotherapy) and recovery (15min after). We visualised physiological trajectories and investigated explanatory variables on their estimated effect with mixed-effects models.
This study found a large range of variation within and across participants' sessions with clinically relevant variations (>10%) occurring in more than 1 out of 4 sessions in mean arterial pressure, minute ventilation (MV) and oxygen consumption (VO2), although early rehabilitation did not generally affect physiological values from baseline to training or recovery. Active patient participation increased MV (mean difference 0.7l/min 0.4-1.0, p<0.001) and VO2 (23ml/min 95%CI: 13-34, p<0.001) during training when compared to passive participation. Similarly, session type 'mobilisation' increased heart rate (6.6bpm 2.1-11.2, p = 0.006) during recovery when compared to 'exercise'. Other modifiable explanatory variables included session duration, mobilisation level and daily medication, while non-modifiable variables were age, gender, body mass index and the daily Sequential Organ Failure Assessment.
A large range of variation during rehabilitation and recovery mirrors the heterogenous interventions and patient reactions. This warrants close monitoring and individual tailoring, whereby the best option to stimulate a cardiorespiratory response seems to be active patient participation, shorter session durations and mobilisation.

We report a measurement of the $C\!P$-violating parameters $A$ and $S$ in $B^{0}\to K_{S}^{0} \pi^{0}$ decays at Belle II using a sample of $387\times 10^{6}$ $B\bar{B}$ events recorded in ...$e^{+}e^{-}$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy corresponding to the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance. These parameters are determined by fitting the proper decay-time distribution of a sample of 415 signal events. We obtain $A = 0.04^{+0.15}_{-0.14}\pm 0.05$ and $S = 0.75^{+0.20}_{-0.23}\pm 0.04$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic.
We search for lepton-flavor-violating τ^{-}→e^{-}α and τ^{-}→μ^{-}α decays, where α is an invisible spin-0 boson. The search uses electron-positron collisions at 10.58 GeV center-of-mass energy with ...an integrated luminosity of 62.8 fb^{-1}, produced by the SuperKEKB collider and collected with the Belle II detector. We search for an excess in the lepton-energy spectrum of the known τ^{-}→e^{-}νover ¯_{e}ν_{τ} and τ^{-}→μ^{-}νover ¯_{μ}ν_{τ} decays. We report 95% confidence-level upper limits on the branching-fraction ratio B(τ^{-}→e^{-}α)/B(τ^{-}→e^{-}νover ¯_{e}ν_{τ}) in the range (1.1-9.7)×10^{-3} and on B(τ^{-}→μ^{-}α)/B(τ^{-}→μ^{-}νover ¯_{μ}ν_{τ}) in the range (0.7-12.2)×10^{-3} for α masses between 0 and 1.6 GeV/c^{2}. These results provide the most stringent bounds on invisible boson production from τ decays.
The L_{μ}-L_{τ} extension of the standard model predicts the existence of a lepton-flavor-universality-violating Z^{'} boson that couples only to the heavier lepton families. We search for such a ...Z^{'} through its invisible decay in the process e^{+}e^{-}→μ^{+}μ^{-}Z^{'}. We use a sample of electron-positron collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV collected by the Belle II experiment in 2019-2020, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 79.7 fb^{-1}. We find no excess over the expected standard-model background. We set 90%-confidence-level upper limits on the cross section for this process as well as on the coupling of the model, which ranges from 3×10^{-3} at low Z^{'} masses to 1 at Z^{'} masses of 8 GeV/c^{2}.
We present an R&D activity focused on the development of novel modules for the upgrade of the ATLAS pixel system at the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC). The modules consist of n-in-p pixel sensors, 100 ...or 200μm thick, produced at VTT (Finland) with an active edge technology, which considerably reduces the dead area at the periphery of the device. The sensors are interconnected with solder bump-bonding to the ATLAS FE-I3 and FE-I4 read-out chips, and characterised with radioactive sources and beam tests at the CERN-SPS and DESY. The results of these measurements will be discussed for devices before and after irradiation up to a fluence of 5×1015neq/cm2. We will also report on the R&D activity to obtain Inter Chip Vias (ICVs) on the ATLAS read-out chip in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute EMFT. This step is meant to prove the feasibility of the signal transport to the newly created readout pads on the backside of the chips allowing for four side buttable devices without the presently used cantilever for wire bonding. The read-out chips with ICVs will be interconnected to thin pixel sensors, 75μm and 150μm thick, with the Solid Liquid Interdiffusion (SLID) technology, which is an alternative to the standard solder bump-bonding.
We report the first search for a nonstandard-model resonance decaying into τ pairs in e^{+}e^{-}→μ^{+}μ^{-}τ^{+}τ^{-} events in the 3.6-10 GeV/c^{2} mass range. We use a 62.8 fb^{-1} sample of ...e^{+}e^{-} collisions collected at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB collider. The analysis probes three different models predicting a spin-1 particle coupling only to the heavier lepton families, a Higgs-like spin-0 particle that couples preferentially to charged leptons (leptophilic scalar), and an axionlike particle, respectively. We observe no evidence for a signal and set exclusion limits at 90% confidence level on the product of cross section and branching fraction into τ pairs, ranging from 0.7 to 24 fb, and on the couplings of these processes. We obtain world-leading constraints on the couplings for the leptophilic scalar model for masses above 6.5 GeV/c^{2} and for the axionlike particle model over the entire mass range.

For about half a century, light emission observed in Si avalanches has been a well-known process. In numerous measurements the researchers measured its intensity and spectrum shape, but unfortunately ...still there are non-negligible differences between measurements. Recently the interest in this effect has been revived because of the SiPM (GAPD, MPPC, micro-channel APD). One of the main drawbacks of SiPM is due to the light emission in avalanches that causes a cross-talk between neighbour cells. In many applications this can strongly degrade the performance of SiPM. We measured the light emitted by a 1
mm×1
mm Hamamatsu MPPC that was coupled to a spectrograph. We report here our measurements of the differential light emission in the wavelength range 450–1600
nm. The measurements were made using CCDs sensitive to visible and near-infrared light.

. The performance of these algorithms is measured in most cases with

decays to tau leptons using the full 2012 dataset, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb

. An uncertainty on the offline reconstructed tau energy scale of 2–4 %, depending on transverse energy and pseudorapidity, is achieved using two independent methods. The offline tau identification efficiency is measured with a precision of 2.5 % for hadronically decaying tau leptons with one associated track, and of 4 % for the case of three associated tracks, inclusive in pseudorapidity and for a visible transverse energy greater than 20
GeV
. For hadronic tau lepton decays selected by offline algorithms, the tau trigger identification efficiency is measured with a precision of 2–8 %, depending on the transverse energy. The performance of the tau algorithms, both offline and at the trigger level, is found to be stable with respect to the number of concurrent proton–proton interactions and has supported a variety of physics results using hadronically decaying tau leptons at ATLAS.
Measurements of inclusive jet production are performed in pp and Pb + Pb collisions at root SNN = 2.76 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 4.0 and 0.14 ...nb(-1), respectively. The jets are identified with the anti-k(t) algorithm with R = 0.4, and the spectra are measured over the kinematic range of jet transverse momentum 32 < pT < 500 GeV and absolute rapidity |y| < 2.1 and as a function of collision centrality. The nuclear modification factor R-AA is evaluated, and jets are found to be suppressed by approximately a factor of 2 in central collisions compared to pp collisions. The RAA shows a slight increase with pT and no significant variation with rapidity.
