To provide an aspect-free television (TV) service that allows viewers to watch more attractive TV programs using various aspect ratios selected based on the creator's intent, we investigate the ...system requirements and specific transmission methods for live production in broadcast stations. We propose the use of a 16:9 active video area in conventional video signals such as HD/UHD-1 as containers, and determine the range that the user-specified aspect ratio video occupies in the container using identifier ancillary data. This method is highly compatible with existing systems and conventional workflows. Scalability using multiple containers is considered in this study.
We propose a phase detection autofocus (PDAF) method for three-chip 8K UHDTV2 240-fps cameras that detects the in-focus position of a lens by using disparity information between pixels with different ...apertures across multiple sensors. This multi-plane PDAF method executes pupil division in the same incident position while using simple metal-shielded pixel technology, which can achieve accurate AF and enable low-cost implementation. The proposed method implemented in an 8K three-chip camera incorporating 8K sensors with half-shielded phase-detection pixels into the blue and red channels demonstrated robust disparity calculation compared with the conventional single-chip metal-shielded-based PDAF method.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a physical education program matched to the stages of change for exercise of the transtheoretical model (TTM) in a group of male university ...students. The participants were 239 male university freshmen (121 students in the intervention group and 118 in the control group). Two tasks were assigned for the intervention group. The first was conducted during class time, and the participants completed the task based on behavioral science. In this task, the participants selectively worked their own stages of change for exercise. For participants at the precontemplation stage, we set assignments to clarify that they had a sedentary lifestyle. For participants at the contemplation stage, we set tasks to prompt them to think about the pros and cons of an active lifestyle. For participants at the preparation stage, we set tasks to produce rewards for achievement of their personal goals. For participants at the active stage, we set tasks to encourage the use of social support from people around them. For participants at the maintenance stage, we set tasks to encourage change in their environment to maintain a physically active lifestyle. The second assignment was a practical one conducted outside class time. This involved self-monitoring of daily physical activities. The participants were assessed for the stages of change for exercise, physical activity level, exercise self-efficacy, and decisional balance for exercise before and after attendance. The intervention group showed a greater increase in the scores for daily physical activity, and maintained their score for decisional balance to a better degree than the control group. Additionally, in the intervention group, the stages of change for exercise progressed significantly after attendance as compared with the control group.

The tidal exchange between the Okhotsk Sea and the North Pacific Ocean is studied numerically with particular emphasis on the predominant K1 barotropic component. The calculated harmonic constants of ...the K1 tide in and around the Okhotsk Sea agree well with those obtained from extensive tide gauge observations.
A retrieval-aware image format (rim format) is developed for the usage in the similar-image retrieval. The format is based on PCA and ICA which can compress source images with an equivalent or often ...better rate-distortion than JPEG. Besides the data compression, the learned PCA/ICA bases are utilized in the similar-image retrieval since they reflect each source image’s local patterns. Following the format presentation, an image search viewer for network environments (Wisvi; Waseda image search viewer) is presented. Therein, each query is an image per se. The Wisvi system based on the “rim” method successfully finds similar-images from non-uniform network environments. Experiments support that the PCA/ICA methods are viable to the joint compression and retrieval of digital images. Interested test users can download a β-version of the tool for the joint image compression and retrieval from a web site specified in this paper.
We have developed a 133Mpixel 60fps CMOS image sensor to realize a compact, full-resolution single-chip 8K Super Hi-Vision camera. The image size is equivalent to that of 35-mm full-frame lenses and ...the pixel size is 2.45μm. Bayer color filter array is adopted and each color has over 33-million pixels, which are equal to the number of pixels for 8K full-resolution. To achieve high speed readout with 60fps, 14b high-speed redundant successive approximation register (SAR) ADCs are adopted. As a result, a full-size image with over 4000 TV lines resolution has been captured.
小型・単板式フル解像度8Kスーパーハイビジョンカメラを実現するために,1億3300万画素・フレーム周波数60HzのCMOS撮像素子を開発した.光学サイズは35ミリフルサイズ相当,画素サイズは2.45μmである.ベイヤー配列のカラーフィルタが搭載されており,RGB各色とも8Kのフル解像度(3300万画素)以上の画素数を持つ.32カラム共有・14ビット冗長・逐次比較型ADCを採用し,サンプル周波数17.95Ms/sにより,フレーム周波数60Hzでの全画素信号の読み出しを実現した.本撮像素子を60Hzで動作させてフル解像度カラー画像を取得し,4000TV本以上の解像度が得られることを確認した.
