Purpose
Understanding the multifaceted images of tourism destinations is critical for effective destination marketing and management strategies. Traditional approaches, including conceptualization of ...destination images or analysis of their antecedents and consequences, are commonly used. This study aims to advocate the inclusion of visitors’ latent profiles based on cognitive images to enrich the evaluation and formulation of destination marketing and management strategies.
Design/methodology/approach
The analysis focuses on Serbia, an emerging destination, that attracts an increasing number of first-time, repeat and prospective visitors. Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were used to test the potential dimensions (tangible and intangible cultural destination; infrastructural and accessible destination; active, nature and family destination; sensory and hospitable destination; and welcoming, value for money (VFM) and safe destination) of the cognitive destination image factors scale while subtypes (profiles) were obtained using latent profile analysis (LPA).
Findings
The cognitive image component encompasses the perceived attributes of a destination, whether derived from direct experience or acquired through other means. The study identified the following profiles: conventional destination; sensory and hospitable destination; welcoming, VFM and safe destination; secure and active family destination and accessible cultural destination, which are presented individually with their sociodemographic assets.
Originality/value
The main contribution of the paper is the application of a novel method (LPA) for profiling visitor segments based on cognitive destination image. From a theoretical perspective, this research contributes to the extant body of literature pertaining to the destination image, thereby facilitating the identification of discrete latent visitor segments and elucidating noteworthy differences among them concerning a cognitive image.
•A general theory of the time distribution of quantum events is developed.•In the approximation in which the time between measurements is sufficiently small, a fairly simple general formula is ...derived.•The theory is applicable to a large class of problems, including arrival time, dwell time and tunneling time.
We develop a general theory of the time distribution of quantum events, applicable to a large class of problems such as arrival time, dwell time and tunneling time. A stopwatch ticks until an awaited event is detected, at which time the stopwatch stops. The awaited event is represented by a projection operator π, while the ideal stopwatch is modeled as a series of projective measurements at which the quantum state gets projected with either π¯=1−π (when the awaited event does not happen) or π (when the awaited event eventually happens). In the approximation in which the time δt between the subsequent measurements is sufficiently small (but not zero!), we find a fairly simple general formula for the time distribution P(t), representing the probability density that the awaited event will be detected at time t.
Epilepsy is a chronic brain disease affecting millions of people worldwide, but little is known about the impact of anti-seizure medications on redox homeostasis.
This study aimed to compare the ...effects of the long-term use of oral anti-seizure medications in monotherapy (lamotrigine, carbamazepine, and valproate) on antioxidant enzymes: superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase, haemoglobin, and methaemoglobin content in erythrocytes, and concentrations of total proteins and thiols, nitrites, lipid peroxides and total glutathione in the plasma of epilepsy patients and drug-naïve patients.
The results showed that lamotrigine therapy led to lower superoxide dismutase activity (
< 0.005) and lower concentrations of total thiols (
< 0.01) and lipid peroxides (
< 0.01) compared to controls. On the other hand, therapy with carbamazepine increased nitrite levels (
< 0.01) but reduced superoxide dismutase activity (
< 0.005). In the valproate group, only a decrease in catalase activity was observed (
< 0.005). Canonical discriminant analysis showed that the composition of antioxidant enzymes in erythrocytes was different for both the lamotrigine and carbamazepine groups, while the controls were separated from all others.
Monotherapy with anti-seizure medications discretely alters redox homeostasis, followed by distinct relationships between antioxidant components.
Abstract
Higher category theory can be employed to generalize the notion of a gauge group to the notion of a gauge
n
-group. This novel algebraic structure is designed to generalize notions of ...connection, parallel transport and holonomy from curves to manifolds of dimension higher than one. Thus it generalizes the concept of gauge symmetry, giving rise to a topological action called
nBF
action, living on a corresponding
n
-principal bundle over a spacetime manifold. Similarly as for the Plebanski action, one can deform the topological
nBF
action by adding appropriate simplicity constraints, in order to describe the correct dynamics of both gravity and matter fields. Specifically, one can describe the whole Standard Model coupled to gravity as a constrained 3
BF
or 4
BF
action. The split of the full action into a topological sector and simplicity constraints sector is adapted to the spinfoam quantization technique, with the aim to construct a full model of quantum gravity with matter. In addition, the properties of the gauge
n
-group structure open up a possibility of a nontrivial unification of all fields. An
n
-group naturally contains additional novel gauge groups which specify the spectrum of matter fields present in the theory, in a similar way to the ordinary gauge group that prescribes the spectrum of gauge vector bosons in the Yang-Mills theory. The presence and the properties of these new gauge groups has the potential to explain fermion families, and other structure in the matter spectrum of the theory.
Various biomarkers like certain complete blood cell count parameters and the derived ratios including neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio are commonly used to evaluate disease severity. Our study aimed to ...establish if baseline levels of complete blood cell count-derived biomarkers and CRP, measured before any treatment which can interfere with their values, could serve as a predictor of development of pneumonia and the need for hospitalization requiring oxygen therapy. We retrospectively analyzed the laboratory data of 200 consecutive patients without comorbidities, who denied usage of medications prior to blood analysis and visited a COVID-19 ambulance between October and December 2021. Multivariate regression analysis extracted older age, elevated CRP and lower eosinophil count as significant independent predictors of pneumonia (
= 0.003,
= 0.000,
= 0.046, respectively). Independent predictors of hospitalization were higher CRP (
= 0.000) and lower platelet count (
= 0.005). There was no significant difference in the neutrophil-lymphocyte and platelet-lymphocyte ratios between examined groups. Individual biomarkers such as platelet and eosinophil count might be better in predicting the severity of COVID-19 than the neutrophil-lymphocyte and platelet-lymphocyte ratios.
Background and Objectives: Treatment of cancer patients during the COVID-19 pandemic has been a challenge worldwide. In accordance with the current recommendations for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) ...management during the COVID-19 pandemic, loco-regional therapy such as transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) was proposed with the purpose of achieving local tumor control and improving overall survival. The aim of this prospective cohort study was to evaluate the outcomes of TACE treatment in patients with HCC during the COVID-19 pandemic in comparison with the outcomes of patients treated in the pre-pandemic period. Materials and Methods: Between September 2018 and December 2021, 154 patients were managed by serial TACE procedures for different liver tumors. Ninety-seven patients met the study criteria and were divided into two groups: the study group n = 49 (patients treated from May 2020 to December 2021); the control group n = 48 (patients treated from September 2018 to May 2020). Results: The mean waiting time for TACE was significantly longer in the study group compared to the control group (p < 0.001). No significant difference in survival between the groups is noted (log-rank test p = 0.823). In multivariate analysis, the MELD score (HR 1.329, 95% CI 1.140−1.548, p < 0.001) remained a significant predictor of mortality. Conclusions: COVID-19 pandemic did not affect the final outcome of TACE treatment.
