INIS (International Nuclear Information System) ist die weltweit größte Datenbank im Bereich der friedlichen Nutzung von Nuklearwissenschaften und wird von der IAEA (International Atomic Energy ...Agency) und ihren Mitgliedsstaaten betrieben. Das österreichische INIS-Zentrum befindet sich an der Zentralbibliothek für Physik und ist zuständig für die Auswahl und die Eingabe von relevanter, in Österreich publizierter Literatur. Mit über 3,3 Millionen bibliographischen Records ermöglicht die INIS Collection Zugriff auf eine einzigartige Sammlung von grauer Literatur im Bereich der Nuklearwissenschaften. Dazu gehören über 280.000 Volltext-Dokumente wie u.a. wissenschaftliche und technische Reports, Konferenzprotokolle und Patente, welche nicht auf herkömmlichem Wege zur Verfügung stehen.
Dieser Beitrag beschäftigt sich im speziellen mit der INIS Collection Search, welche mithilfe des multilingualen INIS-Thesaurus ein äußerst präzises Suchergebnis ermöglicht. Der Thesaurus umfasst 30.000 Begriffe und ist in allen Amtssprachen der IAEA (Arabisch, Chinesisch, Englisch, Französisch, Russisch, Japanisch, Spanisch und Deutsch) erhältlich. Der Zugriff auf die INIS Collection, die INIS bibliographische Datenbank und auf die Volltext-Dokumente ist kostenlos über die INIS Website http://www.iaea.org/INIS möglich. INIS Collection Search wird von Google Search Appliance betrieben, wobei besonderer Wert auf die Benutzerfreundlichkeit des Suchsystems gelegt wurde. Die Sucheingabe kann dabei auf zwei grundlegende Sucharten erfolgen: Standard Search und Advanced Search. Für registrierte INIS-Benutzer ist der Zugriff auf ein umfassendes Informationsangebot der IAEA sowie auf ein eigenes »User profile« und einen »Workspace« gewährleistet, wo sich u.a. Suchergebnisse und Suchabfragen (Queries) speichern und verwalten lassen. Nach einerkurzen, allgemeinen Einführung über INIS und ICS werden ausgewählte Fallbeispiele zur Anwendung der ICS gezeigt. Abschließen werden noch neue Entwicklungen im Bereich der INIS Collection Search besprochen.
The AEg̅IS collaboration at CERN’s AD produces antihydrogen atoms in the form of a pulsed, isotropic source with a precisely defined formation time. AEg̅IS has recently undergone major upgrades to ...fully benefit from the increased number of colder antiprotons provided by the new ELENA decelerator and to move toward forming a horizontal beam to directly investigate the influence of gravity on the H̅ atoms, thereby probing the Weak Equivalence Principle for antimatter. This contribution gives an overview of these upgrades as well as subsequent results from the first beam times with ELENA.

We present a Rabi-type measurement of two ground-state hydrogen hyperfine transitions performed in two opposite external magnetic field directions. This puts first constraints at the level of 2.3 ...10^-21 GeV on a set of coefficients of the Standard Model Extension, which were not measured by previous experiments. Moreover, we introduce a novel method, applicable to antihydrogen hyperfine spectroscopy in a beam, that determines the zero-field hyperfine transition frequency from the two transitions measured at the same magnetic field. Our value, nu_0 = 1.420 405 751 63(63) GHz, is in agreement with literature at a relative precision of 0.44 ppb. This is the highest precision achieved on hydrogen in a beam, improving over previous results by a factor of 6.
The mechanism of antiproton-nucleus annihilation at rest is not fully understood, despite substantial previous experimental and theoretical work. In this study we used slow extracted, sub-keV ...antiprotons from the ASACUSA apparatus at CERN to measure the charged particle multiplicities and their energy deposits from antiproton annihilations at rest on three different nuclei: carbon, molybdenum and gold. The results are compared with predictions from different models in the simulation tools Geant4 and FLUKA. A model that accounts for all the observed features is still missing, as well as measurements at low energies, to validate such models.

Leukemia inhibitor factor (LIF) has been shown to potently inhibit HIV-1 replication in vitro and in human organ explant cultures. Furthermore, LIF activates the Jak/Stat signaling pathway with which ...many viruses, including HIV-1, interfere. We used CXCR4 and the LIF signaling receptor (gp130)-expressing cMAGI cells transfected with CD4, CCR5, and HIV-LTR-beta-galactosidase as a model system to investigate the potential involvement of Stat proteins in the anti-HIV-1 effect of LIF. Pretreatment with recombinant human (rh)LIF resulted in a significantly reduced uptake of HIV-1(BaL) , HIV-1(LAI), and SIVmac251 viral particles without affecting uptake of murine leukemia retroviral particles. HIV-1(BaL), HIV-1(LAI), as well as rhLIF selectively induced phosphorylation of Stat 3 but not Stat 1 or Stat 5. However, treatment of cMAGI cells with rhLIF prior to HIV-1 infection downregulated the HIV-1-mediated Stat 3 phosphorylation. In addition, peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) transfected with Stat 3 siRNA prior to HIV-1(LAI) or HIV-1(BaL) infection produced significantly less HIV-1 p24 antigen as compared to nontransfected HIV-1(LAI) and HIV-1(BaL)-infected PBMCs. Thus, the Jak/Stat signaling pathway is important for the HIV-1 replication life cycle and rhLIF excerts its anti-HIV-1 activity by disrupting this signaling cascade.
