Hidden photons and axion-like particles are candidates for cold dark matter if they were produced non-thermally in the early universe. We conducted a search for both of these bosons using 800 ...live-days of data from the XMASS detector with 327 kg of liquid xenon in the fiducial volume. No significant signal was observed, and thus we set constraints on the α′/α parameter related to kinetic mixing of hidden photons and the coupling constant gAe of axion-like particles in the mass range from 40 to 120 keV/c2, resulting in α′/α<6×10−26 and gAe<4×10−13. These limits are the most stringent over this mass range derived from both direct and indirect searches to date.
Galectin-3, a member of the beta-galactoside-binding gene family, is a multifunctional protein implicated in a variety of biological functions, including tumor cell adhesion, proliferation, ...differentiation, angiogenesis, cancer progression and metastasis. Recent studies revealed that intracellular galectin-3 exhibits the activity to suppress drug induced apoptosis and anoikis (apoptosis induced by the loss of cell anchorage) that contribute to cell survival. Resistance to apoptosis is essential for cancer cell survival and plays a role in tumor progression. Conversely, it was recently shown that tumor cells' secreted galectin-3 induces T-cells' apoptosis, thus playing a role in the immune escape mechanism during tumor progression through induction of apoptosis of cancer-infiltrating T-cells. This review summarizes recent evidences on the role of galectin-3 as an anti-apoptotic and/or pro-apoptotic factor in various cell types and discusses the recent understanding of the molecular mechanisms of galectin-3 role in apoptosis. We also suggest potential directions for further analyses of this multifunctional protein.

A search for dark matter using an underground single-phase liquid xenon detector was conducted at the Kamioka Observatory in Japan, particularly for Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs). We ...have used 705.9 live days of data in a fiducial volume containing 97kg of liquid xenon at the center of the detector. The event rate in the fiducial volume after the data reduction was (4.2±0.2)×10−3day−1kg−1keVee−1 at 5keVee, with a signal efficiency of 20%. All the remaining events are consistent with our background evaluation, mostly of the “mis-reconstructed events” originated from 210Pb in the copper plates lining the detector's inner surface. The obtained upper limit on a spin-independent WIMP-nucleon cross section was 2.2×10−44cm2 for a WIMP mass of 60GeV/c2 at the 90% confidence level, which was the most stringent limit among results from single-phase liquid xenon detectors.
A search for dark matter (DM) with mass in the sub-GeV region (0.32–1 GeV) was conducted by looking for an annual modulation signal in XMASS, a single-phase liquid xenon detector. Inelastic nuclear ...scattering accompanied by bremsstrahlung emission was used to search down to an electron equivalent energy of 1 keV. The data used had a live time of 2.8 years (3.5 years in calendar time), resulting in a total exposure of 2.38 ton-years. No significant modulation signal was observed and 90% confidence level upper limits of 1.6×10−33 cm2 at 0.5 GeV was set for the DM-nucleon cross section. This is the first experimental result of a search for DM mediated by the bremsstrahlung effect. In addition, a search for DM with mass in the multi-GeV region (4–20 GeV) was conducted with a lower energy threshold than previous analysis of XMASS. Elastic nuclear scattering was used to search down to a nuclear recoil equivalent energy of 2.3 keV, and upper limits of 2.9 ×10−42 cm2 at 8 GeV was obtained.
Ta-doped SnO2 films were deposited on glass substrate (either unheated or heated at 200°C) by reactive magnetron sputtering with a Sn–Ta metal-sintered target using a plasma control unit (PCU) and ...mid-frequency (mf, 50kHz) unipolar pulsing. The PCU feedback system precisely controlled the flow of the reactive and sputtering gases (O2 and Ar, respectively) by monitoring either discharge impedance or the plasma emission of the atomic O* line at 777nm. The planar target was connected to the switching unit, which was operated in unipolar pulse mode. Power density on the target was maintained at 4.4Wcm−2 during deposition. The lowest obtained resistivity for the films deposited on heated substrate was 6.4×10−3Ωcm, where the deposition rate was 250nmmin−1.
In this study, WO3 films for electrochromic devices were deposited on a Sn-doped In2O3 substrate by hollow-cathode gas-flow sputtering using a pair of facing W metal targets. The sputtering power for ...all depositions was fixed at 1000W (3.9W/cm2). The deposited WO3 films were amorphous in structure. Static deposition rates were achieved to be higher by two orders of magnitude than those for conventional dc magnetron sputtering, as well as to be the comparable colouration efficiency.
► Electrochromic amorphous WO3 films were deposited by gas flow sputtering. ► Deposition rates were 160–270nm/min, much higher than for conventional sputtering. ► The colouration efficiency was comparable to that for conventional sputtering.
Abstract
Two species of
Palaquium (P. maliliensis
and
P. obovatum
) were found coexist in same habitat in the educational forest of Hasanuddin University (Unhas). Two or more species are living in a ...habitat could be formed from similar parent through genetic isolation process without geographic isolation and was classified as sympatric congeneric species. So far, sympatric congeneric species is still controversial among researchers. Based on this case, the purpose of this study was to determine the microhabitat and morphological differences between the two species. The methods of the study were conducted by purposively selecting 21 samples of
P. maliliensis
and 20 samples of
P. obovatum
at the tree level. In each samples found, the microhabitat characteristics (topographic position and slope) and morphological characteristics (leaf, buttress root, and morphological in general) were observed. Morphological measurement data were analyzed with correlation test for intra-species variable and real difference test for inter-species variable. This study concluded that the slope was one of the major microhabitat factors that has driven the process of sympatric speciation between
P. maliliensis
and
P. obovatum.
In morphological characteristics, differences between
P. maliliensis
and
P. obovatum
appeared in the form of leaves.
AbstractThis study was conducted to analyze the role of work competence on work creativity, employee performance, and the competitiveness of woven products produced by SMEs. The research population ...is weaving employees in 152 weaving companies in Bali. The research sample was determined using the Slovin formula with a precision of 7%, so the total sample was 187 respondents spread over seven districts/cities in Bali. The process of collecting research data is done by distributing questionnaires to respondents, and then the collected data was analyzed using the SmartPLS 3.0 program. The results of the analysis show that competence has a significant positive effect on work creativity, employee performance, and product competitiveness. Work creativity also has a significant positive effect on employee performance. Employee performance shows a significant positive effect on product competitiveness. Work creativity and employee performance separately and together act as a mediation on the relationship between competence and product competitiveness.
A search for dark matter was conducted by looking for an annual modulation signal due to the Earth's rotation around the Sun using XMASS, a single phase liquid xenon detector. The data used for this ...analysis was 359.2 live days times 832 kg of exposure accumulated between November 2013 and March 2015. When we assume Weakly Interacting Massive Particle (WIMP) dark matter elastically scattering on the target nuclei, the exclusion upper limit of the WIMP–nucleon cross section 4.3×10−41 cm2 at 8 GeV/c2 was obtained and we exclude almost all the DAMA/LIBRA allowed region in the 6 to 16 GeV/c2 range at ∼10−40 cm2. The result of a simple modulation analysis, without assuming any specific dark matter model but including electron/γ events, showed a slight negative amplitude. The p-values obtained with two independent analyses are 0.014 and 0.068 for null hypothesis, respectively. We obtained 90% C.L. upper bounds that can be used to test various models. This is the first extensive annual modulation search probing this region with an exposure comparable to DAMA/LIBRA.
