The production of J/ψ pairs in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV has been observed using an integrated luminosity of 37.5 pb−1 collected with the LHCb detector. The ...production cross-section for pairs with both J/ψ in the rapidity range 2<yJ/ψ<4.5 and transverse momentum pTJ/ψ<10 GeV/c isσJ/ψJ/ψ=5.1±1.0±1.1 nb, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.
An analysis of B±→DK± and B±→Dπ± decays is presented where the D meson is reconstructed in the two-body final states: K±π∓, K+K− and π+π−. Using 1.0 fb−1 of s=7TeVpp collisions, measurements of ...several observables are made including the first observation of the suppressed mode B±→π±K∓DK±. CP violation in B±→DK± decays is observed with 5.8σ significance.
Mesons comprising a beauty quark and strange quark can oscillate between particle (Bs0) and antiparticle (B¯s0) flavour eigenstates, with a frequency given by the mass difference between heavy and ...light mass eigenstates, Δms. Here we present a measurement of Δms using Bs0→Ds−π+ decays produced in proton–proton collisions collected with the LHCb detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The oscillation frequency is found to be Δms = 17.7683 ± 0.0051 ± 0.0032 ps−1, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. This measurement improves on the current Δms precision by a factor of two. We combine this result with previous LHCb measurements to determine Δms = 17.7656 ± 0.0057 ps−1, which is the legacy measurement of the original LHCb detector. The LHCb collaboration reports an improved measurement of the oscillation frequency of mesons consisting of a bottom quark and strange quark, which is then combined with previous results.
The prompt production of the charmonium χc1 and χc2 mesons has been studied in proton–proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider at a centre-of-mass energy of s=7 TeV. The χc mesons are ...identified through their decays χc→J/ψγ with J/ψ→μ+μ− using 36 pb−1 of data collected by the LHCb detector in 2010. The ratio of the prompt production cross-sections for the two χc spin states, σ(χc2)/σ(χc1), has been determined as a function of the J/ψ transverse momentum, pTJ/ψ, in the range from 2 to 15 GeV/c. The results are in agreement with the next-to-leading order non-relativistic QCD model at high pTJ/ψ and lie consistently above the pure leading-order colour-singlet prediction.
A search for the doubly charmed baryon Xi_cc^+ in the decay mode Xi_cc^+ -> Lambda_c^+ K^- pi^+ is performed with a data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.65/fb, of pp collisions ...recorded at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. No significant signal is found in the mass range 3300-3800 MeV/c^2. Upper limits at the 95% confidence level on the ratio of the Xi_cc^+ production cross-section times branching fraction to that of the Lambda_c^+, R, are given as a function of the Xi_cc^+ mass and lifetime. The largest upper limits range from R < 1.4 x 10^-2 for a lifetime of 100 fs to R < 3.4 x 10^-4 for a lifetime of 400 fs.
Using pp collision data corresponding to 1.0 fb-1 integrated luminosity collected by the LHCb detector, two narrow states are observed in the Lambda_b0pi+pi- spectrum with masses 5911.95 +- ...0.12(stat) +- 0.03(syst) +- 0.66(Lambda_b0 mass) MeV/c^2 and 5919.76 +- 0.07(stat) +- 0.02(syst) +- 0.66(Lambda_b0 mass) MeV/c^2. The significances of the observations are 4.9 and 10.1 standard deviations, respectively. These states are interpreted as the orbitally-excited Lambda_b0 baryons, Lambda_b*0(5912) and Lambda_b*0(5920).
The production of J/ψ mesons accompanied by open charm, and of pairs of open charm hadrons are observed in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV using an integrated luminosity of 355 pb−1 ...collected with the LHCb detector. Model independent measurements of absolute cross-sections are given together with ratios to the measured J/ψ and open charm cross-sections. The properties of these events are studied and compared to theoretical predictions.
A search for the lepton-flavor-violating decays B 0 s → e ± μ ∓ and B 0 → e ± μ ∓ is performed with a data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb − 1 of p p collisions at √ s ...= 7 TeV , collected by the LHCb experiment. The observed number of B 0 s → e ± μ ∓ and B 0 → e ± μ ∓ candidates is consistent with background expectations. Upper limits on the branching fractions of both decays are determined to be B ( B 0 s → e ± μ ∓ ) < 1.1 ( 1.4 ) × 10 − 8 and B ( B 0 → e ± μ ∓ ) < 2.8 ( 3.7 ) × 10 − 9 at 90% (95%) confidence level (C.L.). These limits are a factor of 20 lower than those set by previous experiments. Lower bounds on the Pati-Salam leptoquark masses are also calculated, M LQ ( B 0 s → e ± μ ∓ ) > 101 TeV / c 2 and M LQ ( B 0 → e ± μ ∓ ) > 126 TeV / c 2 at 95% C.L., and are a factor of 2 higher than the previous bounds.
