In vitro trials were carried out on the compatibility of the antagonistic bacterium, Bacillus subtilis BSF4 strain, with some fungicides and insecticides. Their effects were evaluated on colony ...growth by means of two different methods. B. subtilis showed high compatibility with all the tested insecticides and with azoxystrobin, cyprodinil + fludioxonil, fenhexamid, fosetyl, penconazole, piryimethanil, triadimenol and sulphur fungicides
The separating method for alkylating neoplastic compounds were reviewed based on the classification of the Merck Index (12th Edition). Each section, whenever available or relevant, was subdivided ...according to the following approach: stability studies, extraction methods, gas chromatography, high-performance liquid chromatography and capillary electrophoresis. At the end of each chapter a separate table summarizing the main characteristics of the separating method were established. In particular LODs and/or LOQs were expressed as quantity to facilitate comparison between methods. This review highlights the problems to measure trace levels of these compounds into biological fluids with respect to their instability, adsorption to glass and plastic or derivatization requirements. Over the last decades, HPLC seems to be more popular than GC for separating the alkylating agents. The development of narrow- or microbore LC coupled to MS is certainly the way to further improve both separation and sensitivity obtained in the different papers surveyed for this review.
Amoebiasis is a common cause of liver disease usually presenting as single large or multiple smaller abscesses. Cases with granulomatous hepatitis have rarely been described. We report the case of a ...7-year-old girl with amoebic granulomatous hepatitis in which multiple liver abscesses were demonstrated by MRI. A total of 14 abscesses were identified, ranging from 5 mm to 3 cm in diameter. The largest lesions appeared to T2-weighted images as heterogeneous, low-intensity areas surrounded by a double-layered wall, the inner layer of which was hyperintense and the outer layer hypointense. These signs, which have never been described in classic amoebic abscess, represent, we believe, a pattern of hepatic granulomatous amoebiasis lesions. We suggest that MRI should always be performed in cases of amoebic infection.
Hardware for ambient intelligence needs to achieve extremely high computational efficiency (up to 40GOPS/W). An important way for reaching this is exploiting parallelism, and more specifically ...data-level parallelism enabled by SIMD. Whereas a large body of research exists on the benefits of the architectural design of and compilation onto SIMD, the design of energy-optimal functional units for SIMD has received limited attention. It appears that existing SIMD functional units are designed in an area optimal, but not energy optimal way. By exploiting the difference in critical path length for the types of operations (e.g., 4times8/2times16/1times32), SIMD adders can be developed that save up to 40% of energy. In this paper, the authors present these adders, the issues of building them and quantify their benefits for different usage scenarios and operating frequencies.
Zirconium titanate-based thin films are considered as a promising dielectric material for the next generation of integrated microwave devices. The zirconium tin titanate (ZTS) precursor was prepared ...via a polymeric precursor process in aqueous phase, based on the citrate route. The presented chemical procedure is original for this kind of materials. C-13 nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra showed that stable mixed-metal chelate complex has been formed. The viscous resin was multiple spin-coated with intermediate firings at 300°C onto platinized Si substrates and fired in air at 700°C. Thin films 200-nm thick were obtained. Atomic force microscope (AFM) analysis showed that the coverage is homogeneous, the surface texture consisting of elongated grains of average size 20×36 nm. Grazing incidence X-ray diffraction analysis (GIXRD) indicated that only the zirconium tin titanate phase is present within the examined range of penetration depth.
Interactions between food and drugs represent a very interesting chapter even in paediatric field, although this subject has not been very treated so far. We have tried to locate common points ...between pharmacology and elementary metabolism, in order to divide drug-food interactions into five great categories, according to the scheme suggested by Vannucci and Capriati. This scheme is based on the phases in which the interactions take place: 1) before gastroenteric absorption; 2) during gastroenteric absorption; 3) during distribution and storage in tissues; 4) during process of bio-transformation; 5) during excretion. If we want rationally to give a drug, we must exactly know its pharmacokinetic, particularly in paediatrics. In fact, we can avoid detrimental interactions drug-food merely adjusting the pharmacologic dosage to the particular diet of the considered child and vice versa.
Web services are a successful technology for enterprise information management, where they are used to expose legacy applications on the corporate intranet or in business-to-business scenarios. The ...technologies used to expose applications as Web services have matured, stabilized, and are defined as W3C standards. Now, the technology used to build applications based on Web services, a process known as orchestration, is also maturing around the Web Services Business Process Execution Language (WS-BPEL). WS-BPEL falls short on one feature though: as it is focused on orchestration of fully automatic Web-services, WS- BPEL does not provide means for specifying human interactions, even less their access-control requirements. Human interactions are nonetheless needed for flexible business processes. This lacking feature of WS-BPEL has been highlighted in a white paper issued jointly by IBM and SAP, which "describes scenarios where users are involved in business processes, and defines appropriate extensions to WS-BPEL to address these." These extensions, called BPEL4People, are well explained, but their implementation isn't. In this paper, we propose a language for specifying these extensions, as well as an architecture to support them. The salient advantage of our architecture is that it allows for the reuse of existing BPEL engines. In addition, our language allows for specifying these extensions within the main BPEL script, hence preserving a global view of the process. We illustrate our extensions by revisiting the classic loan approval BPEL example.
Several protests by pupils' parents against bad-quality of food given in school-meal--widely and minutely reported by local press--advised Autors to give due emphasis on some deficiencies in ...school-meal administration, rightly denounced by relatives. To cut down health troubles, Authors suggest to commit school-meal's management to catering firms for their great experience in field of collective meal. In fact they have implements and competence to check properly: -education and skill of staff attached to school-meal and distribution; -places, structures, tools used to get meals; -victualling, carriage, storage and condition of food maintenance; -the fancy diets, appropriately diversified by age. Authors think that each school should have places, structures and tools to prepare and take meals and should engage a sole firm both for cooking and serving school-meal.
