Maize (
Zea mays
L.) is a crop possessing high adaptability, however; large differential genotypic responses have been reported when evaluated under multiple environments. Using randomized complete ...block design with two replications a total of 169 teosinte derived maize backcross inbred lines (BILs) were evaluated in three different environments namely, E2, E4 and E6 for maydis leaf blight (MLB) response and grain yield. Out of these, 73 BILs were identified displaying resistance to MLB in at least one of the environments and were subjected to additive main effect and multiplicative interaction (AMMI) analysis and genotype and genotype × environment (GGE) biplot analysis for identification of lines showing stable and high MLB resistance and grain yield. Highly significant effects of genotype, environment and genotype × environment interaction (G × E interaction) were observed for both the traits. AMMI analysis of variance for percent disease index (PDI) revealed that the highest percentage of the total sum of squares (SS) was attributed to G × E (40.55%) while 32.86% and 26.59% were contributed by genotype and environment, respectively. For grain yield, the genotype component had maximum contribution (68.02%) towards SS followed by G × E (17.50%) and environment (14.48%). The GGE biplot analysis identified two mega environments for both PDI (E2, E4/E6) and grain yield (E2/E4, E6). Based on AMMI stability value, genotype MT-90 (32) was observed to be the most stable for PDI. While for grain yield MT-83 (28) was the most stable genotype. The simultaneous selection index (SSI) helped in the identification of five stable high yielding MLB resistant genotypes namely, MT-120 (45), MT-14 (2), MT-166 (62), MT-148 (55), and MT-190 (72) which could be used in future breeding programs either as a donor of MLB resistance and grain yield or after combining ability analysis these genotypes could be used as parents for the development of MLB resistant high yielding hybrids.
Aim
To understand the meaning of surviving out of hospital cardiac arrest and its aftereffects among Greek‐speaking survivors.
Design
Hermeneutical phenomenological method based on Martin Heidegger's ...philosophy.
Methods
Eight Greek‐speaking out of hospital cardiac arrest survivors were recruited using purposive sampling method. Data collection and analysis using the seven stages of hermeneutic analysis described by Diekelman. Data were collected through semi‐structured personal interviews with open‐ended questions.
Results
Analysis revealed five themes: ‘The unexpected attack’, ‘Experiencing a different world: Transformation of Body, Time, Emotion and Sensation’, ‘Restoration of the re‐embodied self’, ‘Life transformation’ and ‘Personal transformation’. The themes are commensurate with transcultural components of Near‐Death Experiences. Surviving out of hospital cardiac arrest was perceived as a ‘divine gift’ and a chance to continue ‘living in a more conscious and meaningful way’. Despite participants' physical and psychosocial challenges, the narratives highlighted a newly acquired deep appreciation for the joy of life, living and others. Construction of meaning and a heightened spirituality seem central in reconstructing life after out of hospital cardiac arrest survivors.
Patient or Public Contribution
Out of hospital cardiac arrest survivors reflected and described in‐depth on their lived experiences of out of hospital cardiac arrest through a 60‐ to 90‐min interview. In addition, the participants provided their feedback on the interpretation of the findings, confirmed the study findings, and ensured that the analysis reflected aspects of their individual experiences and were true to them.
Twenty-nine genotypes of finger millet including six checks namely VL324, VL347, VL348, VL352, VL315 and VL149 were used in the present study for estimating the genetic diversity. The study revealed ...highly significant variance in genotypes for all fourteen traits. The coefficient of variance varied between 4.62 and 14.41 per cent. Grain yield per plot showed the highest GCV (37.33%) and PCV (40.02 %) followed by biological yield per plot GCV (26.21%) and PCV (29.75%). High heritability coupled with high genetic advance was observed in 1000 grains weight, grain yield per plot, days to 50% flowering and biological yield per plot. All 29 genotypes of finger millet genotypes were sorted into eight non-overlapping clusters using Mahalanobis D2 statistics. Cluster I and cluster VIII had the greatest inter-cluster D-value (19.80), followed by cluster I and cluster VII (18.72). 1000 grains weight contributed maximum towards the total divergence.

Peppery, crispy mustard greens are indeed one of the most nutritious green leafy vegetable available during the winter season. The mustard greens similar to spinach and fenugreek are the storehouse ...of the number of phytonutrients and have health promotional and disease prevention properties. Five selections from germplasm lines from Uttarakhand hills were evaluated for leaf traits, micronutrient profile and anti-oxidative properties. These lines were very tall, late maturing and slow-growing. The maximum leaf area was found in EEC-1 (590.42 cm2) by virtue of its broadleaf (21.89cm) with high protein (26.68%) and zinc content (2.73mg). EEC-5 showed the highest fresh leaf weight (66.53g) and maximum content of iron (20.23mg). With maximum leaf length (40.72cm), EEC-4 was identified as an excellent source of â-carotene (6480µg) which is precursor of vitamin A. Leafy mustard selection EEC-3 possessed the highest amount of micronutrients like phosphorous (720mg), calcium (240mg) and manganese (6.49mg). Fresh mustard greens were found to be an excellent source of antioxidant like flavonoids (EEC-4, 4.88mg) and also show very high total antioxidative activity (EEC-5, 20.09mg). Therefore, from the above investigation, it was found that green mustard leaves can serve as a healthy alternative to most of the winter season leafy vegetables with their high nutraceutical and disease defensive role.
The existing resistance genes against white rust disease are often ineffective due to racial variation of the causal fungal pathogen, Albugo candida. Therefore, new sources of resistance effective ...against multiple races are needed for durable resistance. Large-scale phenotyping of advanced introgressed (ILs), mutant, and resynthesized (RBJ) lines of Brassica juncea L., under artificial inoculation at cotyledonary and true leaf stages, against thirteen diverse isolates of Albugo candida and simultaneously at the adult plant stage under multi-location field evaluation from 2019–2022, revealed significant differences in white rust reactions. Amongst 194 introgressed lines, three lines, namely ERJ 39, ERJ 12, and ERJ 15, and three lines among 90 resynthesized and 9 mutant lines, including RBJ 18, DRMR 18-36-12, and DRMR 18-37-13, were identified as potential sources of resistance against multiple isolates at all three developmental stages of the plant. Furthermore, correlation and principal component analysis revealed a positive correlation between white rust resistance at true leaf and adult plant stages for ILs as well as mutant and RBJ lines. These novel sources of host resistance will play vital roles are required for the mustard improvement program and to establish a strong genetic and molecular foundation for identifying white rust resistance linked marker(s), QTLs, or gene(s) for sustainable disease management in India.
Indian mustard is mostly targeted for commercial cultivation as early sown or late sown crop with the expectation of higher yield. With this objective, genetical analysis (13 heat tolerant line × 4 ...heat susceptible tester) of yield traits were carried out. Per cent genotypic coefficient of variations for all 12 yield contributing traits in all three environments was low to high with variance ratio less than unity indicating non-additive genes action. The lines namely Urvashi in E1, PR 08-5 in E2 & P, and PRL 08-6 in E3 as well as testers namely RH 0304 in E1, E2 & P, and JMWR 08-3 in E3 exhibited highest GCA for seed yield. These genotypes, in series of crosses, showed high GCA effects in desirable direction for at least four yield contributing traits. For seed yield, five top ranking crosses were found entirely different for each environment indicating that heterosis manifestation was cross and environment specific. The most outstanding heterotic crosses for different environments were Urvashi × RH 0304 in E1, PR 08-5×JMWR 08-3 in E2, PRL 08-6×RH 0304 in E3 and across environments for seed yield along with high heterosis for 4-6 component traits.
Generation mean analysis was deployed to study the inheritance of 12 yield and its component traits in two crosses viz. PR-2009-6 × ALBELI (Family A) and PR-2009-6 × RGN-73 (Family B) of Indian ...mustard Brassica juncea (L.) Czern& Coss for parents P1 and P2, F1 , F2 , BC1 and BC2 generations. Analysis of variance showed presence of significant variability among families and also within families (among progenies) for various traits under study except for days to maturity, seeds per siliquae and siliquae length. Family A showed considerable interaction effects for siliquae on main raceme, number of seeds per siliquae and oil content. Family B displayed epistatic interactions for characters such as plant height, length of main raceme, siliquae on main raceme, siliquae length, oil content seed yield per plant and glucosinolate content. Fixable effects d and i were found important in the inheritance of plant height, seed yield per plant and glucosinolate content. Among non fixable effects, dominance h gene action was significantly important for determining length of main raceme, number of siliquae on main raceme, siliquae length, oil content, seed yield per plant and glucosinolate content. Interaction gene effects were found significant in controlling plant height, length of main raceme, number of secondary branches per plant, siliquae on main raceme, siliqua length,1000-seed weight, oil content, seed yield per plant and glucosinolate content. Thus, both main effects and epistatic effects were found important in controlling the various traits under study.
Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has emerged as a severely debilitating psychiatric disorder associated with critical illness. Little progress has been made in the treatment of post-intensive ...care unit (ICU) PTSD.
To synthesize neurobiological evidence on the pathophysiology of PTSD and the brain areas involved, and to highlight the potential of music to treat post-ICU PTSD.
Critical narrative review to elucidate an evidence-based neurobiological framework to inform the study of music interventions for PTSD post-ICU. Literature searches were performed in PubMed and CINAHL. The Scale for the Assessment of Narrative Review Articles (SANRA) guided reporting.
A dysfunctional HPA axis feedback loop, an increased amygdalic response, hippocampal atrophy, and a hypoactive prefrontal cortex contribute to PTSD symptoms. Playing or listening to music can stimulate neurogenesis and neuroplasticity, enhance brain recovery, and normalize stress response. Additionally, evidence supports effectiveness of music to improve coping and emotional regulation, decrease dissociation symptoms, reduce depression and anxiety levels, and overall reduce severity of PTSD symptoms.
Despite the lack of music interventions for ICU survivors, music has the potential to help people suffering from PTSD by decreasing amygdala activity, improving hippocampal and prefrontal brain function, and balancing the HPA-axis.
