This article presents the results of a study of the longitudinal spatial resolution by means of the direct timing method (DTM) using 2 m long and 9.53 mm diameter straw tubes. The feasibility of ...achieving the spatial resolution (r.m.s.) better than 2 cm over full length of the straw is demonstrated. The spatial resolution changes little when measured by detecting gammas from a Fe-55 gamma ray source or minimum ionizing electrons from a Ru-106 source. The use of the same type of front end electronics (FEE) both for measuring the drift time of ionization electrons and propagation time of a signal along the anode wire allows one to construct a detector capable for measuring the two dimensional coordinates of charged particles.
A class of models of a "dark sector" of particles consider new very weak interaction between the ordinary and dark matter transmitted by U'(1) gauge bosons A' (dark photons) mixing with ordinary ...photons. If such A's exist, they could be searched for in a light-shining-through-a-wall experiment in a high energy electron beam from the CERN SPS. A proposed search project suggests detection of the e+e- pairs produced in the A ' -> e+e - decays with a very small opening angle. Coordinate detectors based on the thin-wall drift tubes with a minimal material budget and a two-hit resolution for e+ and e- tracks separated by more than 0.5 mm are considered as an option for detecting such events.
We report on a direct search for sub-GeV dark photons (A^{'}), which might be produced in the reaction e^{-}Z→e^{-}ZA^{'} via kinetic mixing with photons by 100 GeV electrons incident on an active ...target in the NA64 experiment at the CERN SPS. The dark photons would decay invisibly into dark matter particles resulting in events with large missing energy. No evidence for such decays was found with 2.75×10^{9} electrons on target. We set new limits on the γ-A^{'} mixing strength and exclude the invisible A^{'} with a mass ≲100 MeV as an explanation of the muon g_{μ}-2 anomaly.
A prototype detector based on thin-walled segmented tubes has been developed and its parameters have been studied. The detector contains 360 registration channels with a straw diameter of 4
mm. The ...prototype’ granularity is 4
сm
2 and the length of insensitive region due to straw internal elements is less than 5% of its full sensitive area. Deterioration of the spatial resolution near these elements is observed for 1.0% of the detector sensitive area. The time and spatial parameters of the detector do not differ from those of conventional tracking detectors based on drift tubes.
In the Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeasts, the DOT1 gene product provides methylation of lysine 79 (K79) of histone H3 and the SET2 gene product provides the methylation of lysine 36 (K36) of the same ...histone. We determined that the dot1 and set2 mutants suppress the UV-induced mutagenesis to an equally high degree. The dot1 mutation demonstrated statistically higher sensitivity to the low doses of MMC than the wild type strain. The analysis of the interaction between the dot1 and rad52 mutations revealed a considerable level of spontaneous cell death in the double dot1 rad52 mutant. We observed strong suppression of the gamma-induced mutagenesis in the set2 mutant. We determined that the dot1 and set2 mutations decrease the spontaneous mutagenesis rate in both single and double mutants. The epistatic interaction between the dot1 and set2 mutations and almost similar sensitivity of the corresponding mutants to the different types of DNA damage allow one to conclude that both genes are involved in the control of the same DNA repair pathways, the homologous-recombination-based and the postreplicative DNA repair.

A small prototype detector based on high pressure thin-walled tubes (straws) has been developed and its parameters have been studied on a bench at JINR, Dubna, and SPS at CERN. The inner diameter of ...the straws is 9.53
mm. The pressure of the active gas mixture Ar/CO
2 (80/20) was varied from 1 to 5
bar. The best spatial resolution achieved in this pressure range is ∼40
μm. Both the high efficiency and high rate capability are retained.
A concept for designing network systems for underwater observations based on the joint development of hydroacoustic radiating and receiving elements integrated with different channels of ...communication is discussed. The main requirements for such systems, principles, and algorithms of their operation under nonstationary conditions of actual marine waters are formulated. The results from several numerical and field experiments demonstrating the performance of certain elements of such systems in typical shallow water basins are presented.

SIN3 gene product operates as a repressor for a huge amount of genes in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Sin3 protein with a mass of about 175 kDa is a member of the RPD3 protein complex with an assessed ...mass of greater than 2 million Da. It was previously shown that RPD3 gene mutations influence recombination and repair processes in S. cerevisiae yeasts. We studied the impacts of the sin3 mutation on UV-light sensitivity and UV-induced mutagenesis in budding yeast cells. The deletion of the SIN3 gene causes weak UV-sensitivity of mutant budding cells as compared to the wild-type strain. These results show that the sin3 mutation decreases both spontaneous and UV-induced levels of levels. This fact is hypothetically related to the malfunction of ribonucleotide reductase activity regulation, which leads to a decrease in the dNTP pool and the inaccurate error-prone damage bypass postreplication repair pathway, which in turn provokes a reduction in the incidence of mutations.
